Build Your Own Fitness Home Gym

If you are looking to build a home gym this year, there are
some important criteria that should be taken into
consideration. A good home gym offers versatility, the
ability to have a few pieces of exercise equipment perform
a wide variety of exercises. It must be durable and be
able to handle the rigors of hard resistance training over
a long period of time. Exercise equipment shouldn't take
up a lot of space. There are many exercises you can do
with your own body weight and a mat, so the home gym
equipment shouldn't clutter up the workout space, nor be
difficult to store. Finally it should be affordable. No
one likes investing in a $1000 home gym just to use it as a
coat rack or have it collecting dust in the corner within 3
months. This list of exercise equipment should offer
solutions in each category listed above and it should
provide a challenging and fun workout environment.

Exercise Ball

One of the most versatile pieces of exercise equipment, the
exercise ball can be used in place of a bench for any
supine or seated exercise. The exercise ball comes in a
variety of sizes and depending on brand, is made of varying
material. Because of the stress placed on a ball during a
workout, it is important to look for a ball that is burst
proof and it will not pop under you during a workout. To
obtain the right size, a ball that sits with your hips and
knees at 90 degrees is most likely what you should use for
a majority of the exercises. For most, a 55cm or 65cm ball
is sufficient. An exercise ball can be purchased for
around $25-$60.

The exercise ball will provide an element of instability
that cannot be duplicated by a bench; therefore you can
improve core stability, and strengthen the integrity of
your joints including shoulders, hips, knees, and ankles.
The more stable you become, the stronger you will be and
will drastically reduce the incidence of injury.

Dumbbells

A good home gym isn't complete without a few sets of
dumbbells. 5-50lbs in increments of 5 will make a complete
set for every type of exercise. Dumbbells are good for
full body exercises that resist gravity. Exercises such as
lunges, squats, shoulder press, bicep curl and chest press
are just a few on the list of dumbbell exercises. They are
durable, versatile, and a good set will last you a
lifetime. A good set of dumbbells may cost $50-$100 for
3-4 sets of varying weight.

Foam Roll

A hard foam cylinder is used for self myfascial release, or
self massage. A supplement to stretching, a foam roll can
help to increase flexibility in a way that stretching
cannot. In addition, it can help to relieve knots and
adhesions within muscle tissue. If you don't like being
sore after a workout, a foam roll can help to alleviate the
soreness and therefore should be a staple item for your
home gym. Invest $20 in a good foam roll that will take
away your pain and soreness after a tough workout.

Xerdisc

The Xerdisc is an air filled rubber disc used for improving
balance, and stability. The same exercises that you do
while standing (ie..shoulder press, squat, bicep curl) can
all be done while standing on an Exerdisc. Improving joint
integrity and balance will allow you to become a more
stable, stronger individual and the exercises are fun and
challenging. It can also be used for ab exercises such as
crunches, and anything you can do to make ab exercises
harder has to be good! A quality Xerdisc may run about $40.

Xertube

Tubing comes in a variety of sizes based on the level of
tension you want. Tubing can be used for most exercises in
place of dumbbells and they will provide a variable
tension. The plus side to using tubing is that you can
gain resistance from a lateral position that dumbbells
cannot provide. Exercises such as wood chops, torso
twists, and pulling exercises like the bent row and lat
pull are just a few that you can do with tubing that you
can't get with other forms or resistance. Tubing is also
safe for seniors looking to stay active as there is no risk
of dropping the weight. Tubing is color coded in relation
to the resistance it provides. I suggest 3-5 different
tubes from thin to thick to give you opportunity to perform
many exercises with small and large muscle groups. They
are usually about $5-$8 a piece and can be used around
doorknobs, in door jams and any other stationary post.

This exercise equipment should provide everyone from the
novice to the advanced, a well rounded home gym that you
can invest in for less than $200 total. The level of
versatility, durability, and challenge that is provided by
these pieces of equipment is unmatched by any single unit
you can buy, and should give you years of workouts that can
be changed and progressed as you continue to get into
better and better shape. Consult with your personal
trainer as to what exercise equipment may be best for your
home gym.

Focal Infection Theory Supported by Other Medical Doctors.

What has been learned in the intervening years which
confirms Dr. Price's contributions to mankind?

Research about endondontic treatment since that time has
been extensive and, for the most part, corroborates
Dr.Price's discoveries. At the same time, Price's questions
continue to add new dimensions to understanding problems
inherent in the dental profession's effort to save teeth
and keep people healthy.

Let me tell you about some of the scientific research which
confirms Dr. Price's major revelations and adds so much to
our understanding of this subject. What follows includes a
bit more technical information than I like to present to
lay audiences. However, knowing some dentists and
physicians will read this book because of their own
interest in the subject or because of the demands of their
patients, it seems necessary to include at least a minimum
of scientific data to emphasize studies which support and
confirm the Price discoveries.

The following men made important contributions to society
in this regard: Milton J. Rosenau, M.D. One of the medical
greats who contributed much to our knowledge of the process
of focal infection was Dr. Milton J. Rosenau, Professor of
Preventive Medicine and Hygiene at Harvard Medical School
In Boston. In 1939, in an article published in the Journal
of the American Dental Association, Rosenau reported
isolating streptococci bacteria from an ulcer in the bowel
of a patient ill with "mucous colitis." He transferred the
bacteria involved in the ulcer through intravenous
injection into several animals and reproduced in them a
similar colitis. Extensive medical work to try to locate
the source of the bowel infection was solved when he found
the patient had a crowned bicuspid which had a large
abscess at its root end.

Cultures made from the infected area were injected
intravenously into a rabbit. In 72 hours the rabbit
developed a bleeding, necrosing colitis which proved to
contain the same family of bacteria involved in the
patient's tooth. But Rosenau's experimental work didn't end
there. He then planted these bacteria in some of the teeth
of a dog. X-ray photographs revealed these teeth developed
abscesses quite similar to those found originally in the
patient. What is more, after 16 months the dog developed
ulcerative colitis.

To further his work, Dr. rosenau transferred into the teeth
of dogs other strains of streptococci taken from patients
with a variety of diseases, either acute or chronic, such
as nephritis (kidney disease with stones), cystitis
(bladder), stomach ulcers, arthritis, and various central
and peripheral nerve diseases. Fifty-two dogs were involved
and 1014 dogs who were not inoculated were used as
controls. Between 47 percent and 75 percent of the animals
developed the same diseases as had the patients.

Dr. Rosenau was criticized that he too often found
streptococcus bacteria in diseases transferred via focal
infection. He pointed out the streptococcus organisms were
commonly found to be responsible for the largest number of
chronic cases of invalidism. You will remember that Dr.
Price also found streps the most frequent oral organisms
involved in causing degenerative diseases.

Franklin Billings, M.D. It was Frank Billings, M.D. Dean of
the Faculty, Professor and Head of the Department of
Medicine and Professor of Medicine at the University of
Chicago, who located and identified the first focal
infection in the mouth. In 1914, Dr. Billings wrote: "Focal
infection is most commonly situated in the head, but may be
located in any organ or tissue." What he meant was, while
it was possible for a focal infection to rise from any
where in the body, its most probable starting site was in
the mouth.

It must be kept in mind that in the beginning, studies
disclosed the transfer of bacteria from the teeth and
tonsils was found to infect the heart, bone joints,
kidneys, etc. As time went on, more and more organs and
tissues were found to be involved in diseases which
originated in the mouth.

It would have been better had Dr. Billings been able to
spell out the original findings and then add his new
discoveries, for many people who had trouble understanding
bacteria could be transferred from the mouth to other
tissues opposed his frequent addition of new areas, even
though it should have been obvious search addition was a
new discovery. These objections were partially responsible
for the focal infection theory battles which came about.

Eventually Dr. Billings was to state that at least 99
percent of the focally infected diseases arose from the
tonsils or teeth, and only one percent or less from all the
other sources combined. Some of those other sources proved
to be the sinuses, Lungs, Intestines, toenails, and tonsil
tags or stumps, but keep in mind these bacteria could
originate anywhere.

A Fat Loss Diet That Doesn't Leave You Hungry

Most weight-loss seekers look with furrowed brows at the
word "diet". We all know that our diet has to change, but
just how that change will, or should, work is frequently
misunderstood. Instead of eating foods that make us feel
something like an enlarged rabbit, and being hungry all the
time, a healthy fat loss diet actually incorporates all
types of foods, and we really don't have to eat as little
as it sounds like. Take a look at 3 diet considerations,
and you might just feel different about diets in general.

1.) Water: Where It's At

Most people, regardless of weight or weight goals, don't
drink enough water. But drinking as much water as the human
body actually asks for, between 8-10 eight-ounce glasses,
can be a significant aid in weight loss, for several
reasons. First, if we drink enough, our bodies don't retain
"water fat" - stores of emergency water rations. Since most
of us spend the day in access to plentiful water supply,
there's no reason to retain the several pounds of water
stores, and we can shed these pounds by drinking those 8-10
glasses.

Second, our kidneys should process water, but they can't do
so very well without enough. Our liver does it instead, but
the liver should be converting fat into energy. Drink more
water to give the water burden to the kidneys and let our
livers burn fat. Last, we naturally suppress our appetite
with water - our brain sees no difference between thirst
and hunger. So instead of opening the fridge, turn on the
tap for your fat loss diet.

2.) Ditch Processed Foods

In the name of convenience, we seem to sacrifice a lot.
Processed foods, with long shelf lives and often requiring
little preparation, are certainly easy, but at the
sacrifice of health. They're pretty easy to spot, or at
least the ingredient lists are, taking up about half the
package. But when all this processing occurs, much
nutritional value is lost, and it takes more food to fill
us up - more calories.

Moreover, processed foods are filled with chemicals and
unneeded fats, unhealthy for your body and weight. Try
eating unprocessed foods - fresh fruits, whole grain
breads, vegetables. All in all, unprocessed foods are
financially equivalent, fill you up more (so you eat less,
without the hunger), and help you slim down healthily.
Pretty good...

3.) Revamp Your Eating Patterns

Actually, this doesn't mean eat less. Eat more. Just try
this: More meals throughout the day, smaller portions.
Instead of eating three meals a day, try five or six. This
way, you don't feel the need to eat a lot, because once you
get hungry, eat a little more. It's also really easy to
balance the types of foods you eat.

Try some grain and dairy for breakfast, have a snack of
fruit around mid-morning, some protein around noonish, and
so on. And the best part? Most dieticians recommend eating
this way for all forms of healthy living, even if you're
not involved in a fat loss diet.

So diet's aren't necessarily quite what we thought they
were. It's not so much eating less as it is eating
differently, and smarter. So instead of starving yourself,
eat more balanced, more frequent meals, with less processed
foods, and drink water. Sounds like a fat loss diet we all
can get used to.

Today's Hottest Fat Burning Supplements for Men and Women

It's summertime! The time of year when you want to show
the most, feel the best and look ripped! In conjunction
with a rigorous fitness plan and a healthy, well balanced
diet, fat burning supplements have become an excellent way
to optimize your results. It may just make the difference
between getting to your goal a little sooner, or even
surpassing your body fat goal by a few extra percentage
points. Just as in weight training programs and diets,
there is individuality that allows different people to get
results in different ways, the same goes for supplements as
well. So to help you make a better informed decision
regarding what fat burners are best for you, here is some
additional information about fat burning supplements, and
what are the most popular supplements on the market today
for both men and women wanting to make the most of
achieving that slim summer look.

Calotren Liquid Weight Loss Formula

Calotren is an all natural protein formula that comes in
liquid form, therefore it is easier to absorb and works
faster than most capsules and tablets. This formula
assists the body in burning unwanted body fat naturally
without the use of stimulants, tricking the body, or by
starvation and severe calorie reduction. It just simply
supports the natural fat burning ability of the body and
allows you to burn sugar more efficiently.

The protein formula found in Calotren is also naturally
occurring in the body. It serves a role of supporting the
integrity of our muscles and joints and their ability to
absorb impact. It is also linked to giving us a younger
appearance as it supports healthy skin. This protein is
already broken down and is readily absorbed when taken
orally and its integration helps build muscle efficiently
and in turn, burns fats and sugar efficiently as well.
There are no stimulants such as caffeine, it is ephedra
free and there are no known side effects of using Calotren
as a weight loss supplement. Other benefits of Calotren
supplementation may include: decrease catabolism of muscle
tissue, improved workout recovery with shortened rest times
between intense session, no adverse effects from stimulants
such as jitters or irratic sleep patterns, increased
energy, loss of body fat, and healthy younger looking skin.

Take Calotren with water, usually 1 tblsp with a glass of
water before bed and it should be outside of a 3 hr time
frame of not eating to allow Calotren to work more
effectively. You may take another serving in the morning
before breakfast on an empty stomach to optimize fat
burning. Calotren is unique in that it offers no
stimulants, something that is hard to find in fat burning
supplements that work.

Lean Out by Beverly International

Lean Out is a lipotropic formula that comes in a capsule
form containing L-carnitine, Co-enzyme 10 and Chromium
Picolinate. Co-enzyme 10 is an important fat soluble
antioxidant that protects substances like cholesterol from
oxidation, or the process of it being deposited on arterial
walls. L-Carnitine serves two major functions as it
relates to fat burning and fitness. The metabolism of
BCAA's and burning fat. L-Carnitine is required for the
transportation of fatty acids into the mitochondria where
they serve for energy production while sparing muscle
glycogen or sugar. A deficiency in Carnitine causes fatty
acids to accumulate in the blood and ultimately result in
more fat deposits. And many times this occurs right where
you have the greatest accumulation and where you least
likely would want it. In summary, L-Carnitine shifts your
fuel source toward fat and thus leaves amino acids and
glycogen available to build lean muscle tissue.

The dosage for Lean Out and L-Carnitine supplementation is
2-4 grams in 3-6 daily doses on an empty stomach taken with
water. You may find it best to cycle this supplement in a
3 week on 1 week off cycle for optimal results.

Slim Quick by NxCare

Slim Quick by NxCare was specially created for women
wanting to burn fat and have a lean look. It is considered
the best weight loss product of its kind, and designed to
work for a woman's body to effectively burn fat. The
quality ingredients are designed to overcome hormonal
barriers that prevent most women from losing weight.

For best results, in conjunction with a fitness program and
healthy eating plan, Slim Quick should be taken on an empty
stomach with water. One capsule in the morming before
breakfast and one capsule 6 hours later. As with any
supplements, they are most effective when used in
conjunction with a complete fitness plan and healthy, well
balanced diet. No fat burning supplement can help you lose
weight and burn fat exclusively, exercise is a must. But
for those who wish to optimize their results, get an edge
on competition, and accelerate their fat burning ability, a
fat burning supplement is the way to go. For professional
advice on fitness program, diet information and nutritional
supplements, liveleantoday.com is your home to help you

10-Question Checklist to Select the Right Brain Fitness Program for You

Unless you have been living in a cave, you have read by now
multiple articles about the brain training and brain
exercise craze: sudoku, Nintendo BrainAge, multiple online
games, software like MindFit and Posit Science...

How do you know which of them can help you more, or whether
you need any of them? Well, that's why we are publishing
the SharpBrains Checklist below, to help you navigate
through the overwhelming and conflicting media reports and
company announcements.

We have spent over 18 months interviewing scientists and
reviewing available Brain Fitness and Exercise Programs
worldwide, and we are going to share with you, right now,
the research-based criteria we use to evaluate them.

***** 10 Questions to Choose the Right Brain Fitness
Program for You (and a brief explanation of why each
question is important)*****

* 1. Are there scientists, ideally neuropsychologists, and
a scientific advisory board behind the program?

(Neuropsychologists specialize in measuring and
understanding human cognition and brain structure and
function.)

* 2. Are there published, peer-reviewed scientific papers
in PubMed written by those scientists? How many?

(PubMed is a service of the U.S. National Library of
Medicine that includes millions of citations science
journals. If a scientist has not published a paper that
appears in that database, he or she cannot make scientific
claims.)

* 3. What are the specific benefits claimed for using this
program?

(Some programs present the benefits in such a nebulous way
that it is impossible to tell if they will have any results
or not.)

* 4. Does the program tell me what part of my brain or
which cognitive skill I am exercising, and is there an
independent assessment to measure my progress?

(The question is whether the improvement experienced in the
program will transfer into real life. For that to happen we
need assessments that are distinct from the exercises
themselves.)

* 5. Is it a structured program with guidance on how many
hours per week and days per week to use it?

(Brain exercise is not a magic pill. You have to do the
exercises in order to benefit, so you need clarity on the
effort required.)

* 6. Do the exercises vary and teach me something new?

(The only way to exercise important parts of our brain is
by tackling novel challenges.)

* 7. Does the program challenge and motivate me, or does it
feel like it would become easy once I learned it?

(Good brain exercise requires increasing levels of
difficulty)

* 8. Does the program fit my personal goals?

(Each individual has different goals/ needs when it comes
to brain health. For example, some want to manage anxiety,
others to improve short-term memory...)

* 9. Does the program fit my lifestyle?

(Some brain exercise programs have great short-term results
but are very intense. Others may be better over time)

* 10. Am I ready and willing to do the program, or would it
be too stressful?

(Excess stress reduces, or may even inhibit,
neurogenesis-the creation of new neurons-. So, it is
important to make sure not to do things that stress us in
unhealthy ways.)

We hope this information is useful. Now, go and exercise
your brain!

What to Expect from Laser Acne Scar Removal Treatments

Have you decided to invest in laser therapy to correct acne
scarring? What do you expect to get for your money- a
completely new look? You should because these services
aren't cheap. No matter what your aims for laser skin
corrections are, by using medical reviews of leading laser
treatments for acne scarring, you can have a clearer idea
of what to expect after your laser treatment.

Most appraisals of the effectiveness of laser skin
enhancements are two-sided because both the patients and
study-independent physicians typically access the level
improvement in acne marks.

While these post-treatment assessments are not
standardized, they still offer a glimpse into the potential
cosmetic outcomes from using laser treatments. Besides
cosmetic changes in the skin, another variable that you'll
need to add to your review of laser treatments is the
overall number of treatments required to see dramatic
changes in the skin.

What follows is a rundown of what to anticipate from four
different laser procedures for treating acne scarring along
with estimates of how many treatment you will need.

Laser 1

1,064-nm Nd:YAG pulsed light system Marketed names include
PhotoSilk Laser

Last year, a study in Dermatologic Surgery tested the
efficacy of the 1,064-nm Nd:YAG laser at removing acne
scars. Nine patients received eight treatments for moderate
to severe acne scarring. Three independent physicians
assessed the overall improvement level of acne scarring
severity for the group at 29.36%.

Treatments: 8 Improvement rating: 29.36%

Laser 2

1,320-nm Nd:YAG Marketed names include CoolTouch Laser

An investigation from the same journal featured eight
patients with facial acne scars. The group received eight
treatments with the 1,320-nm Nd:YAG laser. After five
treatments, independent observes assessed the overall acne
scarring improvement rate between 40-60 %.

Treatments: 5 Improvement rating: 40-60%

Laser 3

1,450-nm diode laser Marketed names include Smoothbeam Laser

In a split test comparison between the 1,450-nm laser and
1,320-nm laser at treating mild to moderate atrophic
(indented, or lost skin tissue) acne scarring, the 1,450-nm
laser demonstrated greater improvement in acne scarring.

Laser 4

1,550-nm erbium-doped fiber laser Marketed names include
Fraxel Laser

Just this past March, a study in Dermatologic Surgery
tested the 1,550-nm erbium-doped fiber laser on fifty-three
patients with mild to moderate atrophic facial acne scars.
After three treatments, two independent reviewers judged a
51-75% improvement in the scarring of 90% of the study
participants.

Treatments: 3 Improvement rating: 51-75%

Remember, these ratings are based on the improvement levels
patients coping with mild to severe acne scarring
experienced after various laser treatments. As Dr. Rohrer
explained, it is difficult to predict what your skin will
look like after a laser treatment for acne scarring because
many of the patient assessments during the studies were
based on opinions of before and after photos.

To reduce the uncertainty surrounding laser correction of
acne scars, ask your laser surgeon for before and after
images of laser cosmetic procedures she has performed in
the past months. Then judge the overall acne scarring
improvement level for yourself.
