The PSA test itself is actually a simple blood test, and

combined with the PSA test.

It is the new buzzword in the scientific community for a
variety of diseases and cancer in the world of detection :

promising method of finding cancer markers in individuals
because it can be more detailed in it's individual
assessment, and finding genes responsible for cancers and
other diseases is pretty much a fool proof method of
detecting likelihood of cancer or actual cancer itself.

While genetic testing can definitely help either to rule
out prostate cancer or to give the doctor and patient a
pretty good idea if further prevention or treatment should
take place, it cannot as of yet be used in and of itself as
a test, but instead is a stepping stone to determining the
validity of PSA screenings and digital rectal exams.

It's basically giving a more complete answer as to whether
tests that are done are actually an accurate predictor of
whether a patient has it, and whether treatment should be
commenced. Many doctors and patients feel that with a more
complete and definitive answer in testing, they feel more
comfortable with diagnosis and prevention testing, and more
confident that they are getting the correct results. This
renewed confidence could lead more men to take part in
prevention and detection screening.

Currently the largest studies in genetic testing for
prostate cancer are being carried out in Sweden, and are
looking promising, but as of yet they are not conclusive
and the method needs more defining and sharpening.

One thing is for sure, that genetic testing is proving to
be an up and coming tool in the definitive and more
accurate detection of many different kinds of cancers,
including breast cancer in women. With continued research
and refining, genetic testing may prove to be of great
benefit for men in the prevention of prostate cancer

Advanced Medical Optics Recalls Moisture Plus Contact Lens Solution
One of the largest U.S. manufacturers of contact lens
cleaning solution, Advanced Medical Optics (AMO) announced
recently that it would voluntarily remove all bottles of
its complete Moisture Plus Contact Lens Solution from store
shelves in what would amount to a massive contact lens
solution recall. The AMO decided to recall the unsafe
contact lens solution after the Centers for Disease Control
(CDC) reported a number of cases of a rare but serious and
potentially blinding eye disease associated with the
contact lens solution.

Users of the contact lens solution are advised to contact a
doctor if they experience any of the following symptoms:

* eye pain or redness

* blurred vision

* sensitivity to light

* the feeling of something in the eye

* excessive tearing

Details of the Moisture Plus Recall

The disease, Acanthamoeba Keratitis, has been confirmed in
138 patients since the beginning of the outbreak in January
2005, according to the CDC. Of these 138, the
epidemiologists have been able to interview 46, 21 of whom
claimed to have used the AMO Moisture Plus contact lens
solution. The disease itself is a keratitis, or an
inflammation of the cornea, caused by the presence of the
Acanthamoeba parasite. This corneal disease is both serious
and difficult to treat, as it does not respond well to
medication and can lead to loss of sight in the patient.

While the agency has been quick to point out the
preliminary nature of the link between the corneal disease
and the contact lens solution, AMO did not hesitate in
instituting the contact lens solution recall and has
advised anyone using the unsafe lens solution to discard
all bottles, as well as any lenses or lens cases that may
have come in contact with the Moisture Plus lens solution.

Unsafe Contact Lens Solution?

The Moisture Plus recall is not the first conducted by AMO,
as the company has had previous issues with contamination
of its contact lens solution products.

In November 2006, AMO instituted a lens solution recall of
2.9 million units of the same Moisture Plus contact lens
solution, after contamination was detected within the
production line at a Chinese factory. Though the two lens
solutions recalls do not appear related, the repeated
contamination concerns related to the company have lead
many to wonder about AMO's safety record and their
liability in any possible Moisture Plus lawsuit. Though at
present no such lawsuit has been announced, anyone with
questions should contact an experienced Moisture Plus
attorney or a contact lens solution law firm, in order to
determine AMO's liability in possible damages resulting
from the Moisture Plus recall.

made the same. I would say that all exercise is definitely
good, but some exercises give you more return for your time
spent. Specifically exercises that can give you both an
cardiovascular and resistance workout are #1 in my book.
Exercise that can do both of these will help you burn
calories while you workout and boost your metabolism every
day by maintaining your muscle mass.

Here are 20 great exercises you can do right in the comfort
of your own home that will burn a tone of calories and
maintain good strong muscles and boost your metabolism even
when you're not working out.

Bodyweight squats - Stand with feet shoulder width apart
squat down like you're sitting back into a chair, drive
your heels into the floor a return to the starting
position. Try 10 reps to start working up to 20, and then
30.

Y-Squat - Same as above, with your arms up and out to your
sides to make your arms and body resemble a "Y" shape. Try
10 reps, working up to 20 and then 30 reps.

Squat jumps - Starting in the same position as above, squat
down as if you're sitting back into a chair and then jump
up from this bottom squat position. When you land from the
jump sit right back down into this squatting position and
repeat. Try 8 reps to start, working up to 12, 15 then 20.

Lunges - Standing with feet shoulder width apart talk a
long step forward with your right foot lunge down touching
your left knee to the ground. Drive your right heel into
the ground and push yourself back to the starting position
and switch legs. Try 10 reps per leg to start, working up
to 15 then 20.

Reverse Lunges - Standing with feet shoulder width apart
talk a long step backwards with your right foot, touch your
right toes to the ground lunging backward touching your
right knee to the ground. Drive your left heel into the
ground and step back forward with your right foot, then
switch legs. Try 8 reps to start working up to 15 then 20.

Push-Ups - Lying flat on the ground face down. On your toes
and hands push yourself off the ground. If toes and hands
is too difficult, start with knees and hands. Try 8 reps to
start, working up to 12, 15 then 20. (once you can do more
than 20 on your knees and hands, start trying to do some on
your feet and hands)

Push-Up/Stick-Up - Do a push up the same as above, now in
between each push up stand up and raise your arms above
your head (like your being held up at gun point...this is
why they call it a 'stick up') and then get right back down
and do your next push up. Continue doing each repetition
like this. Try 8 to start, working up to 12 and then 15.

Step-Ups - Go to a set of stairs and step up to the second
stair with your right foot. Step back down and then switch
feet. Continue alternating feet until you've stepped up 20
times with each foot.

Bridge - Get into a traditional push up position on your
hands and feet keeping your body rigid and hold for 30
seconds. As you get better at these work up to 45 and then
60 seconds.

Start by working through one set of all of these exercises.
As you get better at them you can progress to adding
another set of each, or choose which exercises you like to
add more sets. Take 30-60 seconds rest between each
exercise.

should be one of the foods that is set aside for the
duration.

Most people recover without the necessity of any type of
treatment. The person may have such severe diarrhea however
that hospitalization is necessary in order to prevent
dehydration. If the infection spreads into the blood stream
from the intestines, rapid treatment with antibiotics is
crucial as a patient left untreated will die. Symptomatic
relief in the form of fever reduction and nausea prevention
can occur. Infants and elderly as well as those with immune
systems that are impaired are typically hit harder by the
illness.

Any foods of animal origin should be cooked before
ingestion. Foods which contain raw eggs, dairy products or
undercooked meats should be avoided. Produce prepared for
meals should be thoroughly washed.

The main thrust of the treatment regimen is to replace
electrolytes and fluids that disappear during the course of
illness due to diarrhea.

Some other treatment regimens include changing the diet to
include foods that will reduce the symptoms of diarrhea.
Avoid diuretics during the time frame and infants should
follow a BRAT diet as it has been helpful for most
patients. BRAT is an acronym for rice, bananas, apples and
tea.

While the disease runs its course, the patient can expect
to stay in bed rest with consumption of plenty of fluids.
Light foods should be taken when the patient feels like
resuming eating once again. The change in treatment to
hospitalization is only when the transition to bacteria in
the blood stream occurs with attendant dangers.
