Exercise
Exercise is a key factor for anybody who wants to lose
weight. Exercise will substantially decrease the time for
you to reach your weight loss goals. However it doesn't
just stop there, exercising will enhance your life in many
positive ways. A lot of people have a dread about
exercising because it can be difficult at the start,
especially if you are not used to it. The key point to
remember is that it is only by doing the difficult things
in life, do we reap the greater rewards.

Weight loss is just one positive side effect you receive
from exercising, exercise will also:

Give you more energy. Make you fitter and stronger.
Increase your ability for utilizing more oxygen. Make you
more confident and increase your self esteem. Release
endorphins in your brain which makes you feel happier.
Increase your lifespan Allow you to be a role model for
people around you. Strengthen your heart. Decrease the
risks of major illnesses. Strengthen your immune system.
Boost your metabolism so it works more efficiently. Improve
your posture. Make you look and feel more attractive.
Improve your self image. Improve your ability to cope with
stress. Help you to look and feel younger. Compensate for
the natural muscle loss that occurs with age.

With all these additional benefits it would seem crazy to
avoid exercise, but so many people do, and do not realise
the major benefits that they are missing out on. Of course
exercise will be hard in the beginning and this will be
true for most people. What makes it hard is that your
muscles need to get used to being used in ways that they
are not accustomed to. This is what causes the aches and
soreness the day after an exercise session. At first glance
this may seem a bad thing but in reality it is a good thing
because you are waking up muscles that may have been asleep
for a long time.

Of course your muscles are going to complain when you first
start using them, this is because they are being taken out
of their comfort zone. The good news is that your muscles
learn to adapt pretty quickly to the stress that exercise
will place on them. They do this by becoming stronger and
by increasing their endurance capabilities. When you first
start out, just do enough exercise so that you are pushing
yourself just a little beyond what you think are your
limits. For the first few days you might feel a little
sore, but if you continue doing the same amount of
exercise, the soreness will stop after a week or so. It
stops because your muscles have adapted and when this
happens it is time to do a bit more exercise. Your muscles
will keep on adapting by becoming fitter and stronger, and
you just keep repeating the process.

The hardest part of exercising is the first few weeks. The
reason it's hard is because you are trying to introduce new
behaviours into your life, and your body is not a big fan
of change. Your body likes smooth sailing and doesn't take
kindly to change. The good news is that if you do something
often enough your body will not have any choice but to
change. Always remember that in the beginning; never overdo
it because doing more than you can cope with is going to
result in you giving up. Just do enough so that it is going
to test you a little. After a few weeks things will become
easier, and then you can increase in slightly larger steps
because your body will have come to terms with what you are
doing.

Never ever compare yourself with others when it comes to
exercise. You will be exercising in way that is going to be
challenging for you, it doesn't matter what anyone else can
do. Regardless of how much exercise you start with, always
keep in mind that if you continue, the improvements will
come, it cannot be any other way. Another thing to remember
is that whatever you are doing today is more than what you
were doing a few weeks ago, so you are already improving.

One final tip is that you should try not to think of
exercise. If you spend too much time thinking about it, it
will start to play on your mind during the day. It will get
to the point where you may start dreading exercising when
you finish work, and you would have talked yourself out of
doing it when the time comes. Try to avoid thinking about
it and just do it when the time comes. Most people spend
more time thinking about exercise than spending time
actually doing any, which really makes no sense at all.

There are an estimated 14 million people in the United
States with diagnosed or undiagnosed diabetes! Many of
these individuals will develop foot or lower leg
complications at some point in their life. This can often
lead to hospitalization. The best treatment for such
conditions is prevention! The following is a list of
important steps in the prevention of diabetic foot problems.

1. Wear comfortable shoes preferably fitted by a foot care
specialist. Shoes should have more depth in the toe box and
a firmer outer sole. Higher heels should be avoided as they
place too much load on the ball of the foot.

2. NEVER walk barefoot or in stocking feet! Diabetic
individuals often will lose sensation in their feet. As a
result, if such an individual would step on a foreign
object such as a splinter, they often have limited ability
to feel it. This will allow the injury to go unnoticed
permitting the possibility of infection to occur. These
infections can lead to more serious complications and often
hospitalization.

3. Wash feet daily and dry thoroughly, especially between
the toes, it is best to use pressure rather than vigorous
rubbing when drying. Excessive dirt and debris especially
between the toes can lead to underlying bacterial and
fungal infections. If you cannot reach your toes, a soft
shower brush can be used for washing.

4. Apply a gently moisturizer to the feet once or twice
daily. Diabetic individuals are prone to dry skin. These
subtle scales and cracks in the skin can server as an
opening for bacteria invasion and lead to skin infections.
A gentle moisturizer to the feet will keep the skin soft
and supple. It is important to avoid applying the
moisturizer between the toes. Excessive moisture between
toes can lead to fungal infections.

5. Thick brittle toenails are often a sign of fungal
infection and should be treated by a physician. Having
toenails trimmed by a trained professional is often a
covered benefit with Medicare and most insurance companies
for people with diabetes and associated conditions.

6. Corns and calluses can be treated at home with the
gentle use of a pumice stone to the affected areas after
bathing. Avoid the use of sharp objects or blades.
Accidental cuts can serve as a source of bacterial
infection and more serious foot complications. Avoid the
use of commercial "corn and callous" removers. These are
often mild acids and can lead to open wounds if not used
properly.

7. Socks should be loosely binding and be comprised of
cotton blend material. Cotton serves to absorb moisture
while other materials such as acrylic will "wick" out
moisture. White socks enable on to visualize if there is
drainage or active bleeding from the feet and therefore are
preferred over colored socks.

8. Inspect your feet daily. Look or open cuts or wounds. If
you have difficulty seeing the bottom of your feet, hold a
mirror underneath the sole for inspection.

9. Avoid extreme temperatures------do not soak feet in hot
water or walk barefooted on hot surfaces. Diabetic
individuals will often have decreased sensation to
temperature changes and scalding injuries can go undetected.

10. Should you develop a wound cleanse the area and apply
topical antibiotic ointment with sterile gauze of band aid.
Consult your family physician or podiatrist immediately if
any signs of redness, swelling, or increased pain.

People with diabetes are at increased risk for skin
breakdown, foot ulceration and infection. A minor cut or
blister can have serious consequences. By taking these
necessary precautions, one can avoid injury and reduce the
risk of serious foot problems.

Many of us prepare for time in the sun by grabbing a
swimsuit, a towel, and a tube of sunscreen from the

approach to sun exposure can lead to progression of a
sunburn, such as sun-damaged skin with serious long-term
consequences that include premature aging of the skin and
increased risk of cancer.

Protecting your skin can be as simple as good sunscreen,
great cover-ups, and knowing when to take a time-out. So
where does the confusion come from? First, you need the
right sunscreen. Sun protection is based on blocking out
as much of the sun's intense ultraviolet light as possible.
Sunburn is caused by ultraviolet B (UVB) rays, which
mainly affect the topmost levels of skin. The sun
protection factor (SPF) you see listed on sunscreen bottles
is a measure of protection against these UVB rays. But
ultraviolet A (UVA) rays penetrate deeper, altering cell
structure, darkening skin, and weakening its immune system.

Sunscreens commonly promote the SPF factor. The higher the
number, the greater the protection against burning UVB
rays. And the high for UVB protection has just been raised
to 50+, which is good news. But it's also important to get
protection from damaging UVA rays. Now sunscreens will
also carry a one- to four-star rating system for UVA
protection.

But sunscreen is only as good as its last application.
Studies have shown that people apply sunscreen with a
dangerously sparing touch. The rule of thumb is an ounce
for the average adult. Work it in well before going out
into the sun and reapply every couple of hours — or
more often if you get wet or sweat.

I tell my clients sunscreen is not like plaster. It won't
just stay on your skin.

It won't last forever in storage either — sunscreen
can expire. Many sunscreens have a chemical base. Those
chemicals break down over time. So you may want to
reconsider the bottle that's been rolling around in your
trunk for a few years.

Even used properly, repeatedly and in a timely fashion,
sunscreen isn't an all-day pass to Sun City, and it can't
protect against all of the sun's harmful rays.

For the most complete sun protection, put on more clothes
— and not just any clothes. If your cover-up is an
over washed T-shirt or a wisp of gauze, don't assume it
will protect you; a cotton shirt rates only SPF4. Instead,
invest in some sun-protective clothing — look for the
ultraviolet protection factor (UPF) rating — and a
UPF laundry rinse to boost protection for other clothes. A
broad-brimmed hat will trump a baseball hat or golf visor,
and UVA/UVB-rated sunglasses will protect your eyes.

Finally, take a time-out. Because ultraviolet rays are
strongest from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., even on overcast days,
schedule outdoor activities for other times of the day.
Seek shade. And if you can't avoid the sun, try to limit
the amount of time you're outdoors during peak hours.

Protect your skin, and your health, by playing it safe in
the sun.

some fancy oatmeal that is flavored and instant, don't buy

The B-Complex vitamin is not a single vitamin, but rather
