Confusing The Symptoms Of Anxiety

Confusing The Symptoms Of Anxiety
One of the characteristics of an anxiety attack is a
conviction in the person experiencing the anxiety that they
are facing some sort of imminent health emergency. A person
having an anxiety or panic attack will often rush
themselves to a medical care facility, an emergency room in
many cases, in the belief that they are on the verge of
death or severe incapacitation. People who suffer anxiety
attacks will also often become defensive at any suggestion
that the symptoms they're experiencing aren't serious.

It's not entirely unreasonable that someone having an
anxiety attack would believe they're in the midst of a
serious health crisis. The symptoms of an anxiety attack
can be similar to some serious health conditions. Symptoms
of an anxiety attack can be similar to heart attack
symptoms, for instance. Some of the symptoms of a heart
attack are chest tightness and tingling in the extremities.
During an anxiety attack, a person's chest can feel tight,
and their extremities can feel numb and tingly.

A person suffering a stroke can feel a sense of
disorientation and can have balance difficulty. During an
anxiety attack, it's not uncommon for a person to feel
disoriented and dizzy, and to feel unstable on their feet.
Of course, obviously, an anxiety attack is not a stroke,
and an anxiety attack is not a heart attack. There is mix
up between anxiety attacks and heart attacks and anxiety
attacks and stroke however. At any given moment, there is
someone in an emergency room somewhere who is having an
anxiety attack and nothing more, but who believes they're
having a heart attack or stroke or both.

One method for determining whether symptoms are actually an
anxiety attack is to consider what was happening before
symptoms began. If symptoms followed a sense of
apprehension or feeling agitated, then an anxiety attack
may be what's actually going on. A person can additionally
consider their own physical background. It's highly
unlikely that someone in their twenties or thirties is
going to have a heart attack or stroke, unless they are
severely overweight or have been using narcotics. On the
flip side, a person in their fifties who is not physically
fit should take chest pains or feelings of disorientation
very seriously.

As a general rule, it's a good idea to have irregular
physical symptoms checked out. What is not healthy however
is to be physically cleared yet continue to seek medical
care because of perceived symptoms. Thinking oneself to be
ill when evidence suggests otherwise is a classic
indication of an anxious condition, or of some other form
of psychological dysfunction.

Viagra's Unexpected Side Effect

Viagra's Unexpected Side Effect
Viagra, the most popular and most well known impotence and
male sexual enhancement drug on the market, followed only
by Cialis and then Levitra, may have some unexpected, and
albeit welcome, side effects.

Researchers are saying that not only does Viagra
physiologically produce the effects it is meant to, that is
to increase blood flow to the penis to help men get an
erection, but it also may produce a more psychological
effect as well, putting men "in the mood" mentally for
intimacy, affection, and love. In other words, this may be
the drug that is every woman's dream!

Although Viagra has been plagued with some negative press
about side effects that are unwelcome (what "wonder drug"
isn't), it still continues to be one of the best selling
drugs ever, and almost immediately became a household name
after it's patenting and launch to the public in 1996.
Sildenafil, which is the drug's pharmaceutical name, gained
almost instant notoriety, and was even featured in a
commercial with former presidential candidate Bob Dole.

Viagra became the punchline of jokes on late night shows
like Jay Leno and David Letterman, and was the subject of
much excitement, and still is today, as an apparent cure
for male impotence and other virility issues such as
premature ejaculation. The drug started off in the lab as
a test drug for patients with heart problems, specifically
angina, which is marked by chest pain.

Although the drug did not have any significant impact on
these patients, a noticed side effect of the drug was that
it produce erections in many of it's subjects. And the
rest is history, hence Viagra was born and became a
best-selling drug for ten years and counting.

Now onto the unexpected side effect. Recently, it was
discovered that not only did men experience increased
erections from taking Viagra, and an improvement in their
impotence symptoms and inability to maintain a full
erection, but they also experienced more of a mental
stimulation when it came to getting in the mood for love.

I'm sure Pfizer, the drug company that has put out Viagra,
is beside themself with delight, as yet another benefit is
realized from their already blockbuster drug.

The drug apparently increases the feelings associated with
love and affection by boosting levels of a hormone that is
associated with feelings of intimacy and closeness leading
to sexual arousal. This hormone is called oxytocin, and
you may have heard of it for another reason.

Oxytocin is a hormone which acts as a neurotransmitter to
the brain, that occurs in both men and women, and is
secreted when one feels "lovey dovey" and in the mood to
snuggle with their partner.

In fact, pregnant women who are in their last trimester and
ready to have their baby are encouraged to have sex, since
the release of oxytocin, which occurs during orgasm and
also during sexual arousal, is supposed to help bring on
contractions and lead to a sooner birth at the end of a
pregnancy.

The bottom line as it relates to the unexpected and
pleasant side effect of Viagra for both the man and his
partner, is that this stimulation of the part of the brain
that produces oxytocin, definitely enhances the bonding
experience of sex, and the feelings of security and
closeness that is experienced between partners during
sexual union.

This news is undoubtedly welcome to Viagra users, as well
as to the maker of the drug, who probably didn't imagine
that it would have anything other than a purely utility
effect on the men that took it.

It also opens the door to other possible uses for the
erectily dysfunction drug, but that has yet to be
determined, as it is not yet clear how this release of
oxytocin can help other bodily functions or be a part of
some other type of therapeutic treatment. At any rate, it
certainly is a nice additional benefit for men taking
Viagra!

How to Use Water for Natural Stress and Pain Relief

How to Use Water for Natural Stress and Pain Relief
We all experience some form of stress in our lives.
Clinically, stress is a negative element that can threaten
our physical and emotional health. One form of stress can
diminish our resistance to other forms of stress.
Therefore, stress seems to take on a momentum or it's own
i.e. stress can cause more stress. When our healthy
resistance, i.e. our immune system, begins to break down
under too much stress, physical damage and disease results.
In addition to physical stress e.g. sore muscles, pain,
aches, tension, overexertion, exercise and inactivity that
causes back pain, minor strains and sprains, we also
experience emotional stress as well. Emotional stress can
come from many sources. Emotional stress, as we know, comes
from discord in our work and personal relationships,
economic pressure, loss, grief, anger, fear, etc. Over
time, stress actually builds up toxic deposits in our
cells. Stress can create physical pain and chronic fatigue
that leaves us without energy or rest, leaving us accident
prone and effects our emotional and cognitive abilities
leading to even more stress. Again, stress builds upon
itself and causes a vicious cycle. Our lives can be
charted in a energy wave pattern with healthy activity
being at the high point of the wave and rest being at the
lower point of the wave. If one phase suffers, it effects
the other phase. Our energy wave pattern becomes almost
flat. We then experience restlessness, lack of energy,
depression, insomnia, muscles tension, less frustration
tolerance, exaggeration of emotional reaction e.g. constant
anger of a feeling of our wanting to cry constantly. This
in turn strains our work and personal relationship and our
relationship with ourselves. Sleep and relaxation
interrupts this vicious cycle of stress and restore a
healthy energy wave pattern of activity and rest which
interrupts stress building on itself and causing us to
experience emotional and physical distress. Water can play
a vital natural role in helping us experience the rest and
relaxation we need to end the cycle of stress and pain we
are experiencing.

Our natural, innate relationship with water is both
primordial and present. We live in water for months before
we are born. Our bodies are composed of a large amount of
water. We could say that we are water. We all know the
natural attraction we have to creeks, lakes, and the ocean.
Although not always in our conscious awareness, we
instinctively "know" that water is vital and "alive". All
our physical, intellectual, and emotional functions are
modalities of water functions. Water provides all living
things/beings with a flow of nutrients as well as a means
of elimination. All living forms exist within the Earth's
great hydrosystem. Water is the origin and present source
of all life. In a full hot bath we become surrounded by
water, the source of all life. This stimulates our
primordial security feelings and responses and provides us
with comfort, relaxation, and pleasure. Heated water
relaxes our muscle tension that restricts fluid and energy
flow. The magnetic fields of our nervous system flow
through the surrounding water malecules. We experience the
profound and relieving effects of water's releasing us from
stress and pain.

We can turn our bath into a therapeutic anti-stress,
anti-pain treatment. Our bathroom should be warm and we
should have clean towels and a robe ready for coming out of
our bath. We just fill our tubs with hot water increasing
or decreasing the temperature as is comfortable for us.
When our tub is as full as we can get it, without running
over as we get into it, is the right temperature for us, we
can note the time. We need to stay in the bath for 15 to
20 minutes, not longer. Submerge yourself with only your
head above water. Let your thoughts drift into the
quietness of your awareness of your breathing in and out.
Inhale and exhale fully, which releases tension from our
muscles. Relax into the water and become "one" with the
water. Add hot water if you need it, but beyond that, stay
as still as possible. When time as passed, rise slowly and
towel off lightly and put on the robe. This process will
greatly help reduce stress, break the stress cycle, and
allow our bodies to fall into a deeper rest. Regular use
of anti-stress, anti-pain bath will release many stress
factors through relaxation. This allows us to recover our
energy and stimulate a stronger natural resistence, enhance
our immune system and recover our health.

We can further enhance the effectiveness of water's stress
and pain reduction by adding herbal extracts and essential
oils to our therapeutic bath. Herbal extracts and essential
oils are made from natural plans by various means of
distillation. Essential oils, e.g. Lavender, provide a
relaxing aroma that in itself reduces stress and pain.
These essential oils are used in the treatment modality of
aromatherapy and can be added to our bath water for added
benefit. We can also use aromatherapy candles by our bath
to add even more effective benefits to our therapeutic bath
experience. Aromatherpy candles add a soothing light and
aroma to ease stress and pain.

In natural thermal pools found in nature are many dissolved
minerals that also have an effective therapeutic benefit.
Minerals play an important role in water conditioning.
Natural sodium (salt) minerals such as sodium borate,
sodium caronate, and sodium cloride neutralize metals and
provide a mild electrolyte solutions which disperses
botanicals evenly throughout the water and helps attract
the botanical molecules to our skin. Aromatherapy bath
salts and minerals added to our bath water helps us receive
full benefit from aromatherapy essential oils that we have
added to our bath

Water is a powerful therapeutic natural source of stress
and pain relief. We are water. Water is life. We often
take this for granted and therefore do not make full use of
this natural healing agent. Many of us do not even drink
enough water. If we are wanting to manage stress or to
break a vicious stress cycle, we need only remember that
water is a powerful resource. The next time we are feeling
stress, we can remember to simply wash our hands, splash
some water on our faces, or take a soothing drink of water.
If possible spend time with creeks, rivers, and where
possible with the ocean. If possible, we can introduce
swimming to our exercise program. If this is not possible,
we can naturally soak away stress and pain with hot baths
enhanced with aromatherapy bath salts, aromatherapy mineral
baths, aromatherpy essential oils or stress and pain
formulas specially designed to be used with water such as
ABRA Herbal Hydrotherapy Muscle Bath or ABRA Hydrotherapy
Stress Bath.

Take Vitamin B6 For Your Heart's Sake

Take Vitamin B6 For Your Heart's Sake
First isolated in the 1930s, vitamin B6 is a highly water
soluble vitamin of vital importance to human health. An
adequate dietary supply is essential because the vitamin
cannot be manufactured by the body, and is required for the
proper action of more than 100 enzymes involved in vital
biochemical reactions.

Amongst its many functions, in its coenzyme form of
pridoxal 5'-phosphate (PLP), vitamin B6 is critical for the
release of energy within the body, for the proper formation
and function of oxygen carrying red blood cells, and for
the synthesis of neuro-transmitting hormones within the
brain.

There is also some evidence that PLP may play a role in
mitigating the potentially harmful effects of the steroid
(sex) hormones, such as oestrogen and testosterone, within
the body, so that levels of vitamin B6 may even be related
to the incidence of the characteristic cancers eg of the
breast and prostate, which are most strongly associated
with the hormones.

Perhaps most important, however, is vitamin B6's role in
the regulation of the protein, homocysteine, even sightly
raised blood levels of which have been repeatedly
identified as a risk factor for cardiovascular disease and
stroke. Homocysteine is a perfectly normal by-product of
the body's digestion of protein foods and should normally
be removed harmlessly from the body. But the risk of
excess build up is not negligible.

A large 1997 European study of young and middle aged adults
showed a more than doubled risk of cardiovascular disease
and stroke for individuals whose blood homocysteine levels
were in the top fifth of the normal range. And some
sources attribute as many as 10% of heart attack fatalities
and an even higher proportion of stroke deaths directly to
high homocysteine levels. Since these are still two of the
biggest causes of premature death in the affluent Western
world, such figures are particularly alarming.

The B vitamin complex is known to be vital for the
prevention of excess homocysteine. Vitamins B12 and folic
acid operate to convert homocysteine into the vital amino
acid, methionine; whilst B6 in the form of PLP converts it
into another amino acid, cysteine.

Not surprisingly then, research studies have demonstrated a
clear link between low intakes of vitamin B6, higher levels
of blood homocysteine and enhanced risk of cardiovascular
disease. One such study, in particular, showed that the
daily consumption of 4.6 mg of vitamin B6 reduced the
incidence of heart disease by more than a third as compared
with the consumption of 1.1 mg (slightly below the 1.3 mg
Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) for adults under 50).

In addiition to its important role in regulating blood
homocysteine levels, there is also good evidence to
associate vitamin B6 with the proper functioning of the
immune system and indivduals deficient in B6 have been
shown also to have reduced numbers of vital immune system
cells. It is notable, too, that the amounts of vitamin B6
required to restore optimum immune function, particularly
in the elderly, have been shown to be well in excess of the
RDA. Other benefits of vitamin B6 for which there is
some research evidence include improved memory, reduced
incidence of kidney stones, the alleviation of
pre-menstrual syndrome, the side effects of the
contraceptive pill and morning sickness in pregnancy.

Severe deficiencies of vitamin B6 are thought by most
conventional medical sources to be highly unlikely in
Western societies and indeed the following food values
would suggest that the RDAs of 1.3 mg for adults and 1.7 mg
for the over 50s should be easily achievable. A cup of
fortified cereal will provide between 0.5 and 2.5 mg and
even a single banana perhaps as much as 0.4 mg. Meat,
particularly poultry such as chicken and turkey, will
provide up to 0.5 mg per 3 oz serving, as will fish.
Vegetables, especially potatoes, and nuts are also useful
sources.

But despite this wide range of possible sources, surveys
have shown that the typical adult's daily intake of B6 is
only around 2 mg per day, and for older individuals this
reduces to 1- 1.2 mg. Both figures are worrying, because
they suggest not only that many older people are falling
below the RDA, but that many younger adults are perilously
close to doing so. It has to be remembered, too, that the
RDAs are in any case at levels only sufficient to avoid
outright deficiency, which is not at all the same thing as
optimum health.

Being water soluble, vitamin B6 is easily excreted from the
body and the consumption of alcohol and other diuretic
drinks such as tea and coffee may dramatically increase the
body's need for the vitamin. The requirement also
increases in line with the amount of protein consumed in
the diet.

For these reasons, even conventional medicine is inclined
to recognise the value of supplementation with B6 up to a
level of 2 mg per day. Some nutritional therapists,
however, recommend doses of as much as 100 mg a day in view
of B6's significant role in combatting the increased risk
of heart disease and stroke attributable to elevated blood
homocysteine levels.

And indeed there are no known toxic effects of vitamin B6
at this level of intake, which is in fact the upper safe
limit recommended by the US Food and Nutrition Board. As
always with the B complex vitamins, however, their close
interdependence means that such doses should only be taken
as part of a supplement containing the whole complex. And
to enable the vitamins to do their work to maximum effect,
a comprehensive multi-mineral supplement is also highly
recommended.

Put an end to the cholesterol and the kilos in excess without medicine (Part IV)

Put an end to the cholesterol and the kilos in excess without medicine (Part IV)
Ten commands: 1. Make 3 meals per day, including one
copious breakfast.

2. Consume without moderation all the fruit and vegetables.

3. Give up the pork-butchery, eggs, fat cheeses and butter.

4. Accept fish or white meats for the lunch and the dinner.

5. Leave dairy products if they are not to fat content 0%
fat.

6. Eat an apple for a small hollow.

7. Think of choosing the good mode of cooking.

8. Use the olive oil, the grape pips oil and the vegetable
margarine's.

9. Like the bread, the pastes and rice, they will return it
to you.

10. Drink - with moderation - a red wine of quality, the
only beneficial alcoholic drink.

An enemy not to be underestimated: sugar You now are a good
fat hunter and your loss of weight is not any more one
question of will and perseverance.

Watch out however not to fall into the trap which consists
in compensating for your lacks by an excessive fast sugar
consumption.

Fast sugars, contrary to essential slow sugars (breads,
pasta, potatoes, rice), should be used only at the time of
an important physical or sporting effort. They are very
energetic and provide in little time much of calories.

If you are sedentary, fast sugars become enemies and will
oppose your loss of weight.

Principal sugars to be avoided: The food: Piece of white
sugar, white sugar powders, the toasts (crackers), flour,
dry fruits, honey, marmalade, the black chocolate or with
milk (to be crunched)

Soft drinks: sweetened fruit juice, sodas, lemonade, Indian
tonic The light version is the best. Alcoholic drinks:
beer, whisky, bourbon, cognac, rum, gin, vodka, white
alcohols, pastis, cooked wines (port, Madeira, ...).

Lastly, retain that sugars known as fast are in fact slow
to digest when they are mixed with other food substances.

Test your future cholesterol level: Test number 1: To
prepare your salad? Olive oil or Groundnut oil or Sunflower
oil.

Test number 2: To accompany your salad? Shrimp or Smoked
salmon or Crab (crumbs).

Test number 3: A start at the restaurant? Oysters or
Herring with potato salad or tureen of countryside.

Test number 4: A fish? Sea-breams (Chrysophrys) or Mackerel
or Sardines.

Test number 5: A meat? Rib steak or Escallop of turkey or
Calf chop.

Test number 6: A meat barbecue? Chipolatas or White pudding
or a lamb chop.

Test number 7: A barbecue of sea? Norway lobsters or Mullet
or Skewer of Saint-Jacob.

Test number 8: A cooked dish? Sauerkraut furnished or
Guinea fowl with cabbages or Beef stew .

Test number 9: A dessert? Floating island or pears with the
wine or plate of sorbets.

Test number 10: bananas flambe or burned cream or Pineapple
with kirsch.

Results of the test: Test number 1: The groundnut oil is
your enemy. We have a preference for the olive oil.

Test number 2: Shrimp and crab, although thin, are very
rich in cholesterol.

Test number 3: The oysters are very rich in cholesterol.
The pot of countryside is catastrophic.

Test number 4: Three good fishes but the sea-bream is the
thinnest.

Test number 5: Turkey or calf: two white meats to consume.

Test number 6: The white pudding is excellent for you.

Test number 7: Without hesitation, choose the mullet.

Test number 8: Cheers, if you found guinea fowl with
cabbage.

Test number 9: The floating island is the worst dessert for
your cholesterol.

Test number 10: No the burned cream, but well the pineapple
with kirsch.

Therefore, what is your score for this test? Between 80 and
100: Bravo. Between 60 and 80: You are on the good way,
continue. Between: 50 and 59: Insufficient efforts. Read
again my preceding articles. Below 50: it is time perhaps
to take contact with your cardiologist.

Did You Shoot Someone? Is cheating on your diet really that "bad"?

Did You Shoot Someone? Is cheating on your diet really that "bad"?
The next time I hear someone say "I was bad" in reference
to their diet, I may have to shoot them. I meet people all
the time -- wonderful people. People who are successful in
business, sports, academics, you name it. I bet I could
live comfortably off of the taxes some of these people
pay!! Do they consider themselves successful? Are they
happy with their lives? Generally speaking, yes-but there
is one area in which they consider themselves to be
failures, and they would trade in their success any day to
attain this one goal: to lose weight.

At work last week, one of my clients came into my office
looking at the floor, as if she was ashamed. She was
ashamed. We exchanged our hellos, and I asked how she was
doing. Slowly she looked up at me and said, "I was bad."
I looked at her and heard myself ask, "Did you rob a bank?"
"No," she replied. "Did you shoot someone?" Again: "No."
So I asked her what possibly could have happened to make
her so upset, and she said, "I ate three pieces of birthday
cake at my daughter's party."

Why is it that people place judgment on themselves based on
their eating behaviors? Someone is a "good" or "bad"
person according what they've eaten? Doesn't it sound
crazy? Don't you think someone is good or bad based on,
well, whether they've robbed a bank? Abused their child?
Voted for the other candidate?

Yet we measure our worth based on our eating behaviors.
Let's stop this craziness, and put our relationship with
food into perspective. It is just one of the many
relationships we have in our lives. Relationships wax and
wane-we're not always happy with how the relationship is
going, but the healthy ones last.

Let's save the label of "bad behavior" for when we really
shoot someone.

Becoming "at peace with food" is a journey that involves
developing a new relationship with food. Instead of being
marked by frustration and disappointment, by fear and
competition between you and the food you eat, food will
take its place as one of the many activities in your life,
along with family, friends, working and being active. And,
like these other activities, it should be pleasurable.

In order to be at peace with food, you need to learn about
yourself and why you have the relationship you do with the
food you eat. Like all relationships, your relationship
with food took time to develop, and it will take time to
change.

What To Look For In A Drug Rehab: Critical Information

What To Look For In A Drug Rehab: Critical Information
There are many different types of drug rehab programs
available. You must find the right program for you. While
one might work for another person, you may need an entirely
different program. Any good drug rehab program will be more
than happy to answer any questions and concerns you may
have. To get you started on what type of questions to ask
the program there are twelve questions to ask below. Add
your own as you think of them.

While it can seem quite intimidating to ask questions about
a drug rehab program, you must in order to find the right
one for you. This will certainly not be easy, and can be
emotional for you. However, you can do it. Find the right
one for you so that you do not end up in a program that is
not compatible with you or a simply poor program.

5 Questions To Ask A Drug Rehab -

1. Is the drug rehab program appropriate for you? Your
needs should match well with the program's care and
treatments.

2. Is the drug rehab program accredited? This is very
important. Look for one of these two accreditations: the
Joint Commission on Accredited Health Organizations (JCAHO)
or the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation
Facilities (CARF). These organizations only accredit rehab
programs that have passed inspections. They must also meet
the organization's guidelines and health standards.

3. Are the staff members certified? It is important that
the staff have undergone training in order to treat you
properly. They should be certified as licensed drug
counselors, and hopefully at least a few of them will hold
master's degrees in this area. You should inquire about how
you will be matched up with a counselor. The relationship
you will have with the counselor you are assigned to is
important for your recovery.

4. What is the program's philosophy and approach to
treatment? There are different ways to approach treating a
drug problem. Different programs will have different ways
to approach treating you. You may find that some programs
focus on different things such as religions, spirituality,
medical, and/or psychological. If you do not feel
comfortable with one of these look for another program.

5. What is their weekly schedule for patients? Ask for a
copy of one example. This way you can find out what
activities you would be involved in and how many sessions
you get with the counselor. You can also see how many times
you will be expected to attend group-counseling sessions.
You can also see what the activities are focused on, such
as life, grief, diagnosis, etc.

After determining that you need treatment, enter it quickly
after making an informed decision. Do your research on the
available drug rehab programs in your area and the
surrounding areas. Ask as many questions as you need to
until you feel comfortable that you know as much as you
need to about the program. You do need to complete some
research before you choose the right one for you. When you
do go ahead and enter.
