Weight Loss and Wii

Weight Loss and Wii
The Nintendo Wii console has had some suprising benefits.
It seems you can actually lose weight with the darn thing.
And you thought it was just for kids!

Can You Really Lose Weight With The Wii?

I think the answer is yes. By no means do I think this is
a major part of your serious weight loss goals, but with
the natural body movements it causes, one can indeed lose
something. The more you move your body, the more calories
you can burn. The sports games has a fitness trainer but
this has more to do with your skill level rather than your
ultimate health level. It still makes for a nice exercise
routine though.

I have personal experience with this game and by far, the
most calorie burning sensation I felt was with the Boxing.
Tennis is the second runner-up. All that punching at thin
air and and arm-swinging your virtual tennis racket is sure
to make me lose a few. Because of its fun factor, I do it
more often, thus burning more calories.

The Boxing game reminds me of Taebo. Same concept here so
it makes sense that you can lose weight playing the Wii.

Bowling and Golf are more casual movement games so I dont
feel like I am burning as much calories with those, and am
most likely not, but they do provide some nice movement and
stretching which is a good thing.

To get the full benefit from these sports games, one has to
perform the full range of movements as if you are really
playing the game and do this on a consistent basis. Then, I
think, weight loss can occur with fairly good results.

My muscles were sore for the first few days so I could
really tell which ones were not being used before playing
Wii Sports. I guess I really was getting some kind of
exercise.

Of course, the more you enjoy the game, the more you will
play it, and the more calories will melt be burned up. I
really enjoy the Tennis so I always break a sweat when I am
playing that game.

This is a fun way to break up the monotony of exercise and
have fun while enjoying some health benefits.

All in all, I think this is a very fun way to add some
activity into your lifestyle and burn some calories to boot.

Bodybuilding beginnings

Bodybuilding beginnings
Many think that bodybuilding is a modern day activity but
it really has its roots in the ancient 12th century. India
was where the first methods of bodybuilding training and
related eating programs developed. Over the next 300
years, the people in India were having phenomenal success.
The prototypes of dumbbells and free weights happened
during this period. Weight lifting and body building found
it element at the time.

It was not until the 1800's when bodybuilders came into the
western world like Eugene Sandow. It was not soon after
that bodybuilding contests sprang up in the early 1900's
validating hard work showing their bodybuilding expertise.
Bodybuilding competitions became a whole regime during this
time. The first father of the modern bodybuilding
movements was Sandow. He had frequent public appearances
in organized exhibitions to guarantee his voice and ideas
were heard. He also started a pioneering magazine on
fitness called "Physical Culture".

The authorities of the Olympic Games were pushed by Sandow
to include weightlifting and bodybuilding as one of the
many events. His tireless efforts in weightlifting awarded
him one of the major attractions in the Olympic Games
starting in 1896. It still this day is one of the most
viewed events in the modern games.

When bodybuilders such as Charles Atlas arrived in the
bodybuilding circuit around the 1900's, the sport became
even more widespread and lucrative. His legendary ads
quickly engulfed much of the press and spread over the
world, penetrating deeply in the psyche of all American
men. Who wouldn't want to look like Atlas with a great
body?

Exercise equipments began gaining popularity quickly in the
marketplace. People became more conscious of their bodies
and the way the training should be performed. They learned
how to eat properly, the exercise equipment to use in order
to sculpt their bodies into a perfect shape. This was the
beginning of the fitness industry forming as we know it
today.

Of course, once the Tarzan and Hercules movies became a
rage in the 1950's and the 1970's bodybuilding and
weightlifting took off. The quest for the beautiful body
and attention like Steve Reeves increased drastically.

Gold's Gym and the World Gym, founded by Joe Gold took on a
cult status in bodybuilding as many entrepreneurs scrambled
to dominate the industry.

Weightlifting and bodybuilding were at odds to segregate
themselves to become a sport by each group. The 1970's
created a new phenomenon in the name of Arnold
Schwarzenegger as he took the world by storm with his
incredible carved body of muscle. He also entered the
Guinness Book of World Records as the world's best
developed man and became a cult idol in his own sport.

Popular Colon Detoxing Herbs

Popular Colon Detoxing Herbs
There are many ways for the human body to accumulate a
whole assortment of toxins even if a person lives a fairly
healthy lifestyle. Things such as chemicals in our foods
and bathing products, pesticides in our fruit and
vegetables and toxic fumes from vehicle and factory
emissions slowly build-up in our systems and need to be
cleaned out.

The two main detoxifying organs in your body are your liver
and your kidneys but there's only so much that they can do.
The human body just wasn't created to withstand the
requirements most people put on them. On top of all this,
people add to the problem by drinking excessive alcohol,
smoking and taking drugs.

There are many fast and even extreme detox methods
available ranging from all kinds of fasting, very strict
diets and the different types of colonic therapy. For a lot
of people these types of detox regimes are just too
complicated and require discipline and motivation and
sometimes lots of money.

But there are a few easy to find herbs you can add to your
diet today to help strengthen the immune system and to help
the body to rid itself of unwanted toxins and poisons.

Below we'll look at two of the herbs available that
actually work even better when used together. They are both
used effectively for colon detoxing:

- Psyllium Seeds and Husks

These small seeds or husks are very high in in-soluble
fiber which means that they don't digest or get absorbed
into the body. They absorb water in the colon and expand,
and then act like a sponge by helping waste move out of
your body. They also help promote healthy bowel movements
and can be useful for problems such as diarrhea. It's easy
to drink a cup of water mixed with about a teaspoon of
psyllium husks and it can also help to reduce your appetite!

- Cascara Sagrada

This wonderful herb acts as a natural and safe laxative.
This herb should only be used for a few days at a time to
prevent dependency. On the other hand, the use of cascara
will help strengthen the muscles in your colon. Cascara is
also best used in conjunction with psyllium husks to give
the colon a thorough cleansing. It is a good idea to wait
several hours after taking psyllium husks before using any
form of laxative to get the most out of the cleansing
properties of the husks.

Just by using these 2 easy to find herbs you can strengthen
your immune system and prevent severe illnesses. Did you
know what colon cancer is the leading cause of cancer
deaths in the US? Also, some health experts are quoted as
saying that as much as 90% of all diseases and sicknesses
are related to an toxic colon!

Why Structure is So Important for Adults with ADD

Why Structure is So Important for Adults with ADD
Many adults with attention deficit disorder (ADD) struggle
with the same challenges. One of the biggest challenges
faced by ADD adults is creating and implementing structure
in their lives.

Life without structure can be chaotic and overwhelming. As
an adult with ADD, you probably don't need rigid structure,
but some general guidelines to help order your day, your
week, or even your month.

When you find structure that works for you and you stick to
it, structure takes the pressure off. It allows you to go
through your day without having to make too many decisions
about what to do or when.

So if structure is so helpful for adults with ADD, why is
it so difficult for us to create it for ourselves? Well,
when you have a tendency to become overwhelmed with the
details of day-to-day life in the way that adults with ADD
so often do, creating structure is a skill that doesn't
come easily. It must be learned, often in adulthood.

And, as with learning any skill, the best way to build
structure into your life is to do it slowly. I suggest
starting with a bedtime routine. In this case, it's easiest
to work backwards:

1. Determine the best time for you to go to sleep each
night. Choose a time that will allow you to get a full
night's rest. Let's use an example to demonstrate, and say
11:00pm.

2. Next, take some time to "get ready for bed." That might
mean brushing your teeth, getting your clothes ready for
the next day, taking medications, or whatever it is that
you do before you go to sleep. If these activities take
about 15 minutes, then you would begin getting ready for
bed at 10:45pm.

3. Finally, pick a few "wind down" activities that will
help you relax and de-stress. This might include taking a
bath, reading, meditating, journaling, or even watching
television--provided the shows you choose aren't intense.
Spend about an hour winding down and allowing your brain to
slow down so that it's not racing when you're trying to
fall asleep. In the example provided here, you would start
winding down around 9:45 or 10:00pm.

Note: Whatever activities you choose to wind down, make
sure they don't involve the computer! Nothing will wake up
the ADD brain faster than email or the Internet.

After you build structure into your evening and find
yourself comfortably sticking to it, you can begin to build
more structure into your day. Until then, bedtime is a
great place to start!

And don't be discouraged if it takes a while to make this
routine stick. You may need to tweak the times and
activities to suit you, and you may experience some trial
and error along the way.

Is Your Body Water Deprived?

Is Your Body Water Deprived?
Whilst we are so concerned about enough water to grow our
gardens, wash ourselves etc we are depriving ourselves of
one of the most important factS of water - our internal
intake. We are literally dehydrating ourselves.

But we are thirsty you might say. Why is that - because
instead of the most natural and highly beneficial way of
hydrating our bodies, we are choosing to replace all that
essential healthy drinking of water by substitutes of tea,
coffee, soft drinks, milKshakes and the list goes on. Sure
it is fine to drink those drinks in moderation, but to
absolutely replace water with those is a big opening for
major health problems, cancer, heart conditions, diabetes
and other severe illnesses we don't even want to think
about. When we are water deprived internally, the protein
repair mechanism in our bodies starts to deteriorate,
accelerating the aging process, creating problems of
disease. The immune system, unflushed with water just
doesn't want to function the way it should.

Picture this - place a beautiful new healthy leafy green
plant on your balcony for all to admire. Now instead of
taking care to water your lush healthy plant regularly, you
neglect it. Day after day it starts to dry up from inside
out. It dehydrates to an ugly, unhealthy, lethargic stick
with no energy to produce any life at all.

Now picture that as "You"! Scarey hey! You could be
depriving yourself of life itself right now.

So what are the benefits of water? Have you heard of
'Heartburn'. Of course you have. Alot of us live with it
day and night. In a diet world of too many carbohydrates
and not enough fruit and vegetables and pure water
'Heartburn' becomes ones closest companion. If you ask me
I would consider it more of an enemy. My experience and
memories of 'Heartburn' are 'unwelcome' to say the least.
During my treatment of chemotherapy it was one of my
unwelcomed, unpopular past-times. I tried so many
medications and remedies; avoided acid related foods and so
life went on still with 'Heartburn'. Then finally I learnt
the huge and lifesaving benefits of 'water' - good
purified, but still economical 'water'. Plenty of it was
the prescription. It really works. Believe me folks, from
a disastrous real life experience I know. I know how
chronically discomforting it is and how a life changing
relief is the best feeling you could imagine. All this
because of good clean 'water'.

So instead of reaching for the quick relief medication -
reach cheap and grab a glass or more of water.

Water Additives - something I mention many times, because I
honestly sware by it is, Aloe Juice. A capful three times
a day in your water is so beneficial for a healthy and very
functional - heartburn free - digestive system. My
daughter has used it for both her children from when they
were babies. It is one of the best blood cleansers you
could use.

Enough water per day (usually approximately 8-8ounce
glasses or 2 litres per day) also is a huge boost to clean
out and help reduce any unwanted weight. Alongside a good
nutritional diet, water definitely flushes out all those
unnecessary impurities and starts the metabolism pumping at
a more rapid rate.

Your body is 67% water; your blood is 83% water; and your
brain is 74% water. So keep your all important being,
flushed and hydrated, and you will find the important
actions like metabolism, blood flow and so on, will only
enhance your energy levels to an all time peak.

As you can now see, as well as a healthy and nutritional
diet complimented by exercise, water is very important and
a crucial factor in the whole cycle of a strong, energic,
healthy 'You'!

Exercises for Those "Saddle Bags" on Your Thighs

Exercises for Those "Saddle Bags" on Your Thighs
If you're a woman, you've most certainly heard of the
phrase "saddle bags" which is a euphamism (if you can call
it a euphamism) for those stubborn pockets of fat that tend
to accumulate on women around the outsides of there thighs,
creating, well, a look of saddle bags.

Yep, it's taken from those convenient bags that hang off
the sides of motorcycles to hold items, on either side of
the motorcycle, and it's the perfect way to describe these
pockets of stubborn fat that so many women have, because in
a nutshell, that's what they look like.

These pockets of extra fat are what give women a womanly
shape and curve to their body, but they can also be large
and distracting, and give a woman a pear shape, or simply
make a woman's body look disproportionate when they grow
out of control, usually in relation to when we gain weight
or take a really long time off of going to the gym or
working out. Many times, saddle bags are hereditary.

I for one, inherited them from my mother and my
grandmother, who are skinny, but they've always had that
extra pocket of fat on the thighs, so it's always been a
problem area for me, especially when I put a few pounds on,
because that's exactly where those extra pounds all like to
go - to the thighs.

I know there are some of you out there who are reading this
and going "yes!", I have the same problem, and yes it does
run in my family on the women's side! But take heart,
there are some exercises you can do to help minimize the
look of saddle bags on the sides of your thighs, and of
course a low fat and quality protein diet always helps as
well, so the fat cells shrink and in turn shrink this area.

Exercises cannot completely eliminate saddle bags on their
own. Yes, they can help to pull them in and tone them,
resulting in a smaller, more compact appearance, but you
also must watch your diet. Isn't this always the
unfortunate truth of shrinking any part of our anatomy
though?

OK, now let's talk about some simple aerobic machine
exercises we can do to help minimize the appearance of
large thighs, AKA saddle bags. A very simple one is to use
the elliptical machine and slightly turn the feet out as if
you are walking like a duck.

Turning the feet out helps to isolate the area on the sides
of the thighs, and the aroebic activity combined with the
isolation of the muscles in this area can help to pull and
sculpt the saddle bag problem area. The elliptical machine
is one of my favorites for helping sculpt and tone my
buttocks and thighs, without bulking them up, and they are
great for helping sculpt this problem area as well.

Also, going backwards on the elliptical can help sculpt out
this area as well, if you can, with pointed out feet, but
if it's too uncomfortable, just go backwards for a few
minutes without inverting the feet. Every little bit of
diversification in positioning will help this area.

Running on the treadmill or even walking doesn't compare to
the elliptical if you want to concentrate on the thighs,
because the elliptical's motion is much more conducive to
working this area since it is a half circle motion, and
this targets that tiny area much better and more
effectively.

Now, onto some more simple isometric-style exercises that
you can do anywhere. You don't need any equipment for
these, just a little endurance and muscle to power your way
through them like a champ, all the while thinking of how
toned your thighs are going to look by doing them
consistently, and how you'll fit into those jeans without
getting stuck at the thighs when pulling them on.

This one is a great one, and one of my favorites currently
because it sounds easy, but when you start doing it, you
will see that it is truly a great isolation exercise.

Begin laying on the floor (either a carpeted floor, or get
a yoga mat or a mat with cusioning to protect your back and
vertebrae). Put both of your legs straight up into the
air, so that your body looks like it is at a perfect ninety
degree angle. Now, put the bottoms of your feet together.

This will create a slightly pigeon-toed look and may not
feel very natural at first, but bear with me. Making sure
you keep the bottoms of your feet together the whole time,
slowly pull the legs down, almost as if your legs are one
mechanism, moving up and down, in a diamond shape.

Bring them straight down to the juncture of your thighs,
all the while keeping the bottoms of your feet together.
You should feel some sort of isolation of the sides of your
thighs, and if you don't you may be performing the exercise
incorrectly, so re-assess your positioning and technique.

After you bring your legs down, then begin to start moving
them up, with your feet still velcroed together, and bring
them to a straight up position again, maintaining the
bottom of the feet touching.

Do as many as you can. When you get good at this exercise,
you can begin to do a slight variation of it, and move the
legs out from the body, going at more of a one hundred ten
degree angle than a ninety degree one. You will still feel
the isolation, your just working a slightly different area
of these stubborn saddle bags.

Next are the more obvious choices that help wittle away
that stubborn thigh fat, and those are the infamous and
dreaded lunges. Yep, lunges are one of the best exercises
you can do for those stubborn fat pockets that accumulate
around your thigh areas.

Some of my favorites that I do a lot when I notice my
thighs are starting to be the sticking point for my jeans
not fitting, is the side lunge. If you repeat the lunges
around eight times for three sets, this is a good way to
not only burn fat and sculpt out muscle, but also to keep
the calorie burning up and create what's called muscle
confusion.

Side lunges look like forward lunges or squats, only one
leg is straight out to the side, planted on the floor,
while the other knee is bent, toes facing out to the other
wall, away from you, and you are lunging so that the
isolated area is the side of the thigh rather than the
quadriceps or buttocks.

They are hard to do for many women, but I promise you, if
you continue with them and stick to it, you'll be doing
three sets of eight lunges in no time at all, if not more,
and you'll be on your way to a much smaller upper thigh
area!

Cancer: Will There Ever Be a Cure?

Cancer: Will There Ever Be a Cure?
It is no wonder there are so few (if any) "natural cures"
for devastating diseases. If I were a conspiracy theorist,
I would say it's because the medical industry doesn't want
to find "natural cures." If a natural cure were found for
cancer, for example, oncologists and the whole traditional
"cancer fighting" network would be looking for another
specialty. Or another line of work.

The pharmaceutical industry doesn't want to find a natural
cure for cancer because there is no profit in a cure. Big
Pharma makes its money selling products that at best only
manage symptoms that are not life threatening but on going.
Anyone with high blood pressure is a financial bonanza for
the drug companies. Those unfortunate individuals will take
profitable "management medication" until they die. Got it?
Management pays. Cures do not.

However, I am not a conspiracy theorist. But I am a
thinker. And I think this: There is a lot of stupidity and
far too many "experts" who have been educated beyond their
intelligence who are in charge of how and what research
gets done, and what the public is told and led to believe
as unimpeachable.

This is what I am getting at: A recent press release,
"Study doubts antioxidant benefits for heart risk women"
told about a study that concluded that women at high risk
for heart disease are unlikely to see any benefit from
taking antioxidants C,E, or beta carotene.

The study was conducted at prestigious Brigham and Women's
Hospital and Harvard Medical School in Boston. Right there
you know the findings of this study are to be taken as the
Word of God. And that's exactly the effect it has when an
uninformed, wary populace learns about the study conclusion.

And what is the study conclusion?

"There was no overall effect of ascorbic acid, (vitamin C)
vitamin E or beta carotene on the primary combined end
point or on the individual secondary outcomes of myocardial
infarction, stroke, coronary revascularization or
cardiovascular disease death," wrote the researchers.

That's a mouthful. They could just as well said that the
supplements were useless, but that would not have sounded
scientific enough.

Here's what really happened: Women with a history of heart
disease and a whole host of other health issues were chosen
for the study. They were not "at risk" for heart disease -
they had heart disease. In other words, they were very sick
puppies.

Here's why the study didn't produce positive results: The
women were randomly assigned to take 500 mg of vitamin C or
a placebo every day, 600 units of vitamin E or placebo and
50 mg of beta carotene or placebo every day.

Anyone with even a smattering of knowledge about what
supplements can or cannot do would know that the doses
given could not produce a cure or even a major benefit for
anyone with severe heart problems. The doses given in the
study are doses that health-aware people take every day,
knowing that prevention is the key to staying healthy.

This type of useless study is nothing new. The medical
industry along with Big Pharma continue to spend time and
our tax money on research that is doomed to fail from the
get go. You can't expect to cure very sick people with
severe health problems with dietary doses of supplements.
It ain't gonna happen - ever. But this kind of worthless
research serves a purpose - it perpetuates the fiction that
supplements are useless, and worse - possibly dangerous.

I recall telling a woman that I take 2,000 units of vitamin
E daily. The woman rolled her eyes and said, "That's
dangerous. My doctor would never go for that." For sure.
Most traditionally trained doctors don't know squat about
supplements, and don't want to know. Those with enough
intellectual honesty and curiosity who ask questions run
the risk of the scorn of their peers, which in the medical
profession is a fate worse than death.

Many people won't take supplements unless they are
recommended by their physician who may have only minimal
training in nutrition. All most traditionally trained
doctors know is what "research shows" - research of the
type done at prestigious universities, hospitals and by the
pharmaceutical industry.

Bottom line: Be a thinker. Understand that supplements in
dietary doses cannot be expected to cure. But when they are
taken in adequate amounts before a disease state begins,
they can be life savers.
