Stunning Clip In Hair Extensions

Stunning Clip In Hair Extensions
Stunning huh? Wow, what I wouldn't give to be stunning and
catch the eyes of some downright gorgeous guy! Oh yeah -
that would be a dream come true! Just think - me with a
guy on my arm and having a great time out at the clubs and
dances and - but wait - I am getting way ahead of myself.
Who am I kidding? My hair looks like the cat slept in it
and I can't seem to do much of anything with it.

Wow, that sounds really depressing girl! Why don't you
give clip-in hair extensions a try? I mean they're really
easy and you could really make a difference in your
hairstyle in minutes. And I MEAN minutes - like would you
believe 5 minutes? I am super serious chickie! Come on
let's go take a run into the city and see what we can find!

Nothing works better for an instant fix than clip-in hair
extensions. Add them in and take off, it's just that easy.
Of course if you want to really work on it and make your
hair a "statement" then you might take a little longer.
Are you into rainbow colors? And we mean shocking pinks
etc! No problem. You can make a really wild statement by
adding the whole darn rainbow to your hair. That will
definitely get you some attention. But, it you want
something a little less lively, then stick with the usual
colors and usual kinds of styles. That's not to say they
need to be boring or anything, but stick to something that
might not get you so much stopped traffic!

Clip-in hair extensions are usually, more the most part
anyhow, made of 100 percent real human hair. That is
because they work better to handle and style than some of
the other extensions on the market - for instance 100
percent synthetic hair (be careful of this in terms of
heating it too much or you're in for a bit of a surprise)
or the combination extensions of human and synthetic hair.
Each of these extensions has their own benefits, but be
sure to ask what those are before you buy them. Better to
be safe than sorry you know. Besides if you are going to
be laying out bucks for them, you're going to want
something that works.

Styling clip-in hair extensions isn't hard to do either.
Just treat them like you would your own hair (which is
carefully) and go about your business. The differences in
the amount of time to put these hair extensions in versus
getting them bonded in makes this a viable option for many.

Weight Loss and Human Growth Hormone

Weight Loss and Human Growth Hormone
Along with aging come many problems. As a person ages it's
really difficult to find the time and drive to exercise.
Add to that the fact that metabolism naturally slows and
you've got a recipe for weight gaining. As you gain weight,
it becomes even more difficult to get up and get the
exercise you require. This is the definition of a vicious
circle.

So, yes it is tough losing weight. It's truly a circle and
it doesn't get easier without some serious effort on your
part.

If the cycle is supposed to be broken then human growth
hormone supplements may definitely be worth looking
into.HGH is the acronym for Human Grown Hormone. The
natural human growth hormone is produced in the body's
pituitary gland and this protein blend has several roles.
Primarily, it aids in the routine growth of children. But
it's also been proven to increase energy and to combat the
aging process.

If you try to understand the aging process and how the
youth enjoy the energy and vitality you would appreciate
the hgh and all the buzz around it. While a human growth
hormone supplement doubtlessly isn't going to have you
turning cartwheels by tomorrow, it is likely to help you
find the energy to get started on a realistic exercise
regimen. A few small changes can produce big results as the
cycle of weight gaining is disturbed. Do you ever think
that your existence would be better if you could simply
shed a few pounds?

Having the energy to exercise is a crucial factor after an
age. There are all sorts of weight reduction aids out there,
but energy is the biggest factor in taking command of your
life. With that in mind, human growth hormone supplements
may be just the lift you need to get your life and your
weight back on line. Increased energy isn't the only effect
of human growth hormone supplements, though it's closely
woven to others.

Besides providing the lift to get you started on a regular
exercise regimen, the increased energy has another positive
side effect. Do you think you can take more care of your
skin if you have more energy? You may be giving your
features a speedy cleanse before bed, but ignoring all the
other help your skin needs to remain young and flourishing.
It's not that you're unconcerned only that you're too tired
to pay appropriate attention.

A human growth hormone releaser and other human growth
hormone dietary supplements can deliver you the energy you
need to make the most of your life.

Shoes For Plantar Fasciitis

Shoes For Plantar Fasciitis
Appropriate shoes are the first line of defense against
pain from plantar fasciitis. With every step, pressure is
put on the plantar fascia. When the plantar fascia ligament
becomes overused, overstretched, or injured, it causes
plantar fasciitis.

When proper footwear is used in combination of doing
stretching exercises for plantar fasciitis, surgery can
often be avoided. For some people, wearing supportive
shoes, with orthotics if necessary, is the only treatment
they need to allow them to continue with daily activities
without experiencing pain.

If orthotics such as heel lifts and arch supports are being
used, the patient should use them when trying on new shoes.
This will ensure that the new shoes will accommodate the
orthotics. Arch supports help relieve pressure on the
plantar fascia and help absorb shock.

When the fit of the shoe is critical, the patient should
try on shoes late in the day. This is because as the day
progresses, feet become slightly larger than they are first
thing in the morning. People often have one foot slightly
wider than the other. If this is true for the patient, new
shoes should be selected based on how they fit on the
larger foot. Wearing shoes that are too small is likely to
aggravate the symptoms of plantar fasciitis.

Shoes should have good arch support and heel cushioning.
Shoes that lack support and cushioning add to the stress on
the plantar fascia. Shoes with high heels or pointy toes
should be avoided. A low to moderate heel is a better
choice. A flimsy, extremely low heel does not supply
adequate support.

When trying on shoes, pay attention to the cushioning and
support of the arch, heel, and ball of your feet. Shoes
should fit well and not cause pressure on any part of the
foot. To avoid other foot problems like bunions, choose
shoes that have a roomy toe box, the area that surrounds
the toes. Watch for seams that may irritate your foot.

Athletic shoes that fit well are a good choice. Athletic
shoes should be replaced often due to the fact that they
stop cushioning your feet. The insoles of athletic shoes
break down over time with use. You can tell the significant
difference in support between old, worn-out athletic shoes
and new ones.

Shoes that do not fit securely on the foot should be
avoided. Sandals and shoes with open heels are not good
choices for people with plantar fasciitis. Going barefoot
should also be avoided. Some people find it helpful to put
their shoes on immediately upon getting out of bed in the
morning.

When shopping for shoes, remember that finding shoes that
offer support and cushioning is the highest priority. The
doctor may recommend criteria for shoes best suited for
patients with plantar fasciitis.

The top ten world superfoods

The top ten world superfoods
Okay so maybe that's a slight exaggeration. After all there
are hundreds of foods that are good for you and millions
that are bad !! There are top twenty lists for muscle
building, for endurance, for speed, for losing weight, for
every contingency. These are the top twenty foods, in my
view ,which can contribute to general health, a healthy
diet, keeping illness at bay and in some cases helping you
live longer. Although there's 20 they're not in any
particular order. In this article I'll be covering my top
ten. Look for the follow up which continues with numbers
11-20.

So let's start off with:

1.Chocolate: Sorry ,only joking !! Its not chocolate but
the raw cacao bean which is the main ingredient of
chocolate. Whilst chocolate is really not a good
contributor to a healthy diet this bean is fantastic ! It
contains anti-oxidants that protect the cardio-vascular
system, tryptophan which makes you feel great, magnesium
and potassium as well as dopamine a neurotransmitter which
can help you get motivated. Use the raw bean in yogurt,
fruit salad, desserts, smoothies and just about anything
else you fancy.

2.The number 2 ingredient towards maintaining a healthy
lifestyle is one of the cheapest foods on the planet—
watercress. This little baby contains Vitamin C in
abundance, iron, folic acid and calcium. It will even help
protect you from cancer as it also contains phenylethyl
isothiocyanate , a cancer fighting ingredient.

3.Broccoli weighs in at number 3. One of the most under
rated superfoods and possibly the least popular as many
people think it tastes bland, this vegetable can also help
you live longer. Like water cress it can help prevent
cancer as it contains Indole-3-Carbinol. Also like water
cress it has lots of calcium, and iron as well as sulphur.
Why buy detoxifying remedies-this food will do it all for
you !

4.Alfalfa Sprouts: at number 4 the humble alfalfa sprout is
great for having a healthy lifestyle. This contains so much
stuff that's good for you that you'll be bouncing with
energy and vitality. Included are : Vitamin K, B vitamins,
magnesium, zinc, calcium, as well as amino acids and iron.
I'll ask you again: why buy expensive vitamin supplements
when you can buy these ?

5.Beetroots- love 'em or hate 'em these come in at number
five. The green leafy tops are great for a healthy diet-
they contain calcium, iron and beta-carotene. They're also
a great source of vitamin A , potassium and manganese. To
finish off with beetroot is also meant to improve your
circulation, purify the blood and detoxify your system. Wow
!

6.Nettles: Not a romantic food I know but nettles can help
you achieve a healthy diet. They can give you energy, and
reduce water retention and high blood pressure. Not bad for
starters but they also contain iron, potassium and vitamin
C as well as cleansing the bowels, the blood and the
urinary tract.

7.Ginger: ginger has been used for hundreds of years to
help treat sickness and nausea. But did you know that it
can also treat indigestion and bad circulation. It can
boost the immune system and if you grate it into honey and
lemon it will help you fight off colds and get rid of mucus.

8.Hemp seeds; weighing in at 8 to help you with a healthy
lifestyle is the humble hemp seed. These contain Omega 3
and Omega 6 essential fats as well as Vitamin E. Eat them
with salad, on their own or sprinkled liberally with sweet
potato, soup or just about anything else you fancy.

9.Flax seeds: Sprinkle these on salads and yoghurts. They
contain Omega 3 fats and a gel that lubricates the bowel.
Not pretty but effective! They can also help lower blood
pressure and help balance female hormones as they contain
lignans.

10.Artichokes: Fantastic for keeping to a healthy diet.
These have been used to stimulate liver cell regeneration
and to help stop fatty plaques building up inside the walls
of the arteries, which causes high blood pressure.

So what do you think? Are these superfoods or not ? Cancer
curing, aids to help you keep a healthy lifestyle. And
cheap and easy to buy. What more could you possibly want?
Look out for numbers 11-20 in my follow up article. Coming
soon.

Health, Beauty and Anti-Aging News

Health, Beauty and Anti-Aging News
1. Hormone Replacement Therapy may trigger higher cancer
risk.

A recent follow-up study to the affects of hormone
replacement therapy suggests new risks for other cancers,
particularly lung tumors, for women who had taken HRT for a
period of 5 years or more. These risks had not been seen
in the original HRT study and were completely unanticipated
as stated by the author of the follow-up analysis.

2. Want beautiful skin - food secrets for beautiful skin
New Findings

A recent study has finding to combat dry skin by adjusting
diet. Lower estrogen levels, which occur with early
menopause symptoms, reduce your body's production of
collagen. Collagen is the substance that's key to having
strong, supple, beautiful skin. How to have beautiful skin?
Eating more omega-3 fatty acids is now a recommended course
of action. These fats strengthen skin cell walls, keeping
the moisture where you need it. Omega-3 fatty acids come
from fish like tuna or salmon. The study further reports
Omega-3 fatty acid supplements may be helpful.

3. Cigarette smoke, whether direct or secondhand, is major
cause of aging and wrinkled skin.

A recent study shows whether you smoke, or spend time with
a smoker, cigarette smoke may be the most damaging to the
aging process and firm elastic skin. Cigarette smoking, or
close proximity to it, significantly increases skin
wrinkles and dryness. The research has found there are two
major reasons for accelerating aging and wrinkled skin.
First is the actual act of smoking and the ingredients in
tobacco that damage the body's ability to fight free
radicals. Secondly, cigarette smoke depletes your body of
vitamin C, which is a key ingredient for keeping the skin
plump and moist. The latest studies show that exposure to
cigarette smoke is actually as damaging to skin as the
exposure to the sun's ultraviolet rays. If there is
significant exposure to cigarette smoke and ultraviolet
rays, it will greatly accelerate the aging process.

4. Stress hormones drop by 50% drinking black tea.

A study done by the University College in London England
demonstrated that participants who drank several daily cups
of black tea had their levels of the stress hormone,
cortisol, drop by 47% within one hour.

5. Women's health care study says applying moisturizer
quickly is best.

Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize. A recent study from a
noted skin care institute confirms dry skin needs moisture.
Applying moisturizer lotion within 3 minutes of getting
out of the bath or shower is most effective. Contrary to
popular belief, moisturizer lotion does not add moisture to
the skin; it traps existing water in the skin, which
prevents the water from evaporating. To trap water in the
skin from a bath or shower, moisturizer must be applied
within 3 minutes of bathing. Consistently using
moisturizer lotion will decrease dryness and itching.

Help with Exercises for Losing Weight and Much More

Help with Exercises for Losing Weight and Much More
This article on exercises for losing weight is driven by my
experiences in the fitness industry. It's meant to help
guide you in making a good decision as well as understand
this industry. There are a number of programs showing
exercises for losing weight out today. Some are good and
some not so good. Some that offers overwhelming amounts of
material for workouts and exercises for losing weight and
conditioning.

I've trained and taught Martial Arts for a major part of my
life with lots of student's interest in exercises for
losing weight. Some of the classes I've taught range from
competitive arts such as karate with the high kicking to
combative arts with wrist locks and throws to weapons such
as the live blade to police tactics and women's self
defense (just to give you some back ground on my ability to
judge a quality program and what is average). I've learned
many people have different limitations in performing
specific exercises. I have had much older people in my
Martial art classes' workout and regain flexibility in
their backs and legs just with stretching and working-out.
So I decided to take some time and review a lot of the
online programs.

Everyone has heard the saying if you don't use it you lose
it. As your younger you don't really think much about it.
As you get older, we all tends to get into routines that
limit our muscle movement, our bodies are not like they
where back in grade school with all sorts of sports and
activities. Just look at the kids running up and down the
streets playing with an endless supply of energy. They get
their exercises for losing weight with out even thinking
much about it. If you can find a program like this or one
that offers a change in routine, you know your doing great.
As I went through the process of searching out these
exercises for losing weight programs, I came a cross some
very unique programs. Some that where exceptional for
changing routines, sports performance conditioning,
building strength and building back up for some of the
sports that interest us, as well as just getting back to
the active people we where back in our school days.

When summer arrives every year we start looking for some
type of exercises for losing weight, conditioning or just
seek out our youth. As swimwear comes out and the winter
clothing gets packed away you feel the pressure. I have not
written any program for exercises for losing weight, but
feel very strong at looking at them from a few different
angles. I do not teach anymore as I have 5 kids and work in
a much less active job today.

I did research on programs that promote some of the
following titles, as a ways of finding variety and making
workouts feel less like working out.

· FAST WEIGHT LOSE FOR MEN
· FITNESS BALLU
· HOOP WORKOUTS
· LAX WORKOUTS
· ICE HOCKEY WORKOUTS
· ABS LIKE STONE
· QUICK WEIGHT LOSE FOR MEN
· BALLANTYNE WORKOUTS
· CONGROVE WORKOUTS
· SHOT MAKER WORKOUT
· MEDICINBALL WORKOUTS
· GOLDEN GLOVE WORKOUTS
· WORLD CUP WORKOUTS
· AGILITY WORKOUTS
· 100 METER
· GRIDIRON WORKOUTS
· KETTLEBELL X
· 10 MINUTE WORKOUTS
· SILVER WORKOUT
· WRESTLER WOROUTS
· BODY WEIGHT FIT
· ULTIMATE VERTICAL
· HURDLE STRENGTH
· HEALTH BACK WORKOUTS
· JUMPING INTO PLYOMETRICS
· QUATRO FITNESS
· GYMNASTICS WORKOUT
· VOLLEYBALL WORKOUTS
· TOTAL WORKOUTS
· CRESSEY WORKOUTS
· PREGNANT WORKOUTS
· SWIMMING STRENGTH
· WATER POLO WORKOUTS
· E TENNIS TRAINING
· FAST PITCH WORKOUTS
· JEREMY BOONE WORKOUTS
· SPLITBODY WORKOUTS
· FIELD HOCKEY WORKOUTS
· LOWER BODY WORKOUTS

Some of the programs for exercises for losing weight are
expensive and some are not. I also found some scam programs
just out to make your wallet lighter.

6 Great Reasons Why We Need to Exercise

6 Great Reasons Why We Need to Exercise
I had never thought of sharing on "why exercise" and always
assumed that we all believed and agreed that it was an
essential part of everyone's lifestyle regardless of
whether one had the time or discipline to do it, until
about two years ago I gradually pulled myself out from a
sedentary lifestyle and I established a workout regimen in
the morning and started to read more about the different
types of workout such as aerobic training, resistance
exercise and weight bearing activities. I reckon that
exercising may be very often emphasized by all, but
sometimes, its benefits may not be so clear and obvious to
everyone.

1. Helps Strengthen Your Heart

Aerobic exercises benefit the circulation of your blood
through your heart and blood vessels, that is, your
cardiovascular system. They make our heart work harder,
pump more blood, and reduce the risk of developing heart
disease. With each beat of your heart, a surge of blood is
pumped into your body's intricate web of blood vessels. The
pressure exerted on your artery walls as blood passes
through helps keep the blood flowing smoothly (what you
know as 'blood pressure'). A build-up of plaques in your
arteries, caused by cholesterol in your bloodstream can
affect your blood flow and cause serious damage to your
cardiovascular system.

A workout on a regular basis benefits your heart because it
helps lower the build-up of plaques in arteries by
increasing the concentration of high-density lipoprotein
(HDL) cholesterol (the "good" cholesterol) and decreasing
the concentration of low-density lipoprotein (LDL)
cholesterol (the "bad" cholesterol) in your blood, while
keeping the blood pressure at the optimal level. As a
result, your heart is able to do a better job in delivering
oxygen to all parts of your body. Blood travels more
efficiently, bringing much-needed oxygen from your lungs
and nutrients to the rest of the body. That's why people
generally feel more refreshed and energetic after
exercising.

Want to consider some aerobic activities? Try swimming,
basketball, rope skipping, jogging (or brisk walking),
in-line skating, soccer, or biking.

2. Maintains Strong Bones and Muscles

I am sure most of us have tried doing push-ups, weight
lifting in some form, or repeatedly used your muscles to
counter some kind of resistance. These are called
resistance exercises which the experts believe could
strengthen our muscles; preserve bone mass, increase bone
density. Regular resistance training can help prevent the
bone-weakening disease, osteoporosis.

Walking and jogging are also important activities that bear
your body's weight and help build strong muscles and bones.
Other resistance workout include pull-ups, running, biking,
and rowing.

3. Helps Manage Your Weight

This benefit is well-known to all who are weight conscious
or trying to lose the extra pounds. Your body needs a
certain amount of calories every day just to function. If
you eat more calories than your body needs, it may be
stored as excess fat. For instance, if you have an excess
of 10kg fat, and each gram has some 9 calories, then you
have 90000 calories for your body to use!

Exercising helps you achieve or maintain a healthy weight
by stoking our metabolism, utilizing and burning the extra
calories. And if you exercise, your body works harder and
needs more fuel. Even after you stop exercising, your body
continues to burn calories at a modestly increased rate for
a few hours. The more intensely you workout, the more
calories you burn. By burning more calories than you take
in, you can reduce body fat, giving you a healthier body
composition. Losing body fat can make you look and feel
better and can reduce your risk of obesity.

4. Induces Quality Sleep at Night

Many people who have problems sleeping find doing moderate
exercise at least three hours before bedtime help in
relaxing and sleeping better at night. The recent
Hibernation Diet Theory teaches that regular exercise could
activate production of recovery hormones during sleep,
increases our body's metabolic rate and promotes
fat-burning. It makes a powerful association between poor
sleep and obesity, a disease that has been rising
dramatically in developed countries and has reached
epidemic levels in the United States. While most of us
would associate poor weight control with aging, low
metabolism rate, and poor eating habits, many other
research studies have also reported and pointed to the
relationship between insufficient sleep and weight gain.

So start today, get a good night's sleep, aim for eight
hours a night if you can, and add resistance workouts will
speed up your weight loss and the body will worker harder
at night.

5. Puts You in a Better Mood

We all know that it definitely feels good to have a strong,
flexible body that can do all the activities you enjoy and
be able to move your arms and legs freely without feeling
tightness or pain. But you may not know that exercising can
actually put you in a better mood.

Exercise combats depression by activating the
neurotransmitters, which are basically chemicals used by
our nerve cells to communicate with one another and often
associated with avoiding depression. The balance of these
neurotransmitters, namely serotonin and norepinephrine
plays a role in how we respond to daily events. When
experiencing stress, our level of serotonin, norepinephrine
or both may be out of equilibrium. Workouts may help
synchronize those brain chemicals.

Exercising also stimulates the production of endorphins,
another type of neurotransmitters that produce feelings of
well-being, provide for "natural" pain relief, and help you
relax.

Sounds good? If you just had a tough day at work and need
to let off some steam, go for a workout or a brisk
30-minute walk to calm yourself down.

Well, if you have not any form of physical training for a
long while and find it a pain to do so, I suggest that you
start doing it 2 times a week and slowly increasing to 3
and then 5 times or more a week. You can do 10 or 15
minutes bouts of workout each time to make up a 30 minutes
session a day.

6. Inspires Your Lymphatic System to Work Better

Now, this is a relatively new knowledge for me and thus has
become my latest edition to this page (which was previously
known as "5 Great Reasons Why We Need to Exercise"). While
the above reasons have given us enough incentive to
workout, there is yet another reason which I never knew
before, the extremely essential lymphatic system. It is a
vital network of vessels and nodes responsible for
regulating fluids, distributing proteins and filtering out
poisons in the fluid between the cells. It is a protector
and a defence system against infection, viruses, bacteria,
fungi, and disease. The three most important methods of
lymphatic circulation are external massage, muscle
expansion and contraction, and intense exercise. This means
the more you move, the livelier it becomes. When the lymph
is not overloaded, our health is maintained with nature's
own detox design. But if the lymph is running sluggish and
there is too much waste, a blockage in the lymphatic system
happens, leading to symptoms like chronic fatigue, water
retention, allergies, eczema, arthritis, and infections.
For a more detailed account on this topic, read "Exercise
Inspires Your Lymphatic System to Work Better".

HGH Test Results

HGH Test Results
Growth hormone is being tested to get the results on growth
deficiencies, pituitary gland's function reduction and
pituitary tumours. The tests for HGH level include growth
hormone stimulation test, suppresion test, somatomedin C,
and somatotropin hormone test.

To identify HGH deficiency and excessive HGH, we must
conduct the somatotropin test. Firstly, blood sample must
be taken one hour after sleep to get an accurate readings.
For men, 5ng/ml is the normal level of HGH and around
10ng/ml for women. As for children, it would be around
10ng/ml as well but for newborns the range is between
10-40ng/ml. However, if there is excessive level of HGH
will result in gigantism and acromegaly. If HGH level
deficiency will lead to dwarfism.

The high accuracy indicator of HGH level in blood is the
Somatomedin C test. This test is done to detect any
pituitary abnormalities and cromegaly. The best part about
this test is that it is not affected by time, activity or
diet. For an adult, the normal HGH level in this test is
between 42-110 ng/ml. For girls between 0-8 years old, it
would be 7-110 ng/ml and for boys it is between 4-87 ng/ml.
However, for girls 9-10 years old, the level is increased
to 39-186 ng/ml and for boys it is between 26-98 ng/ml.
Lastly, for girls 11-13 years old, the ideal level of HGH
is 66-215 ng/ml and for boys would be 44-207ng/ml. The
result of excessive level of HGH will lead to gigantism and
acromegaly.

Another test is the Growth Hormone stimulation test or in
another name, it is called the insulin tolerance or
arginine test. It is to test the ability of the body to
produce human growth hormone. To conduct this test, a
substance known as HGH Releasing Factor is used. The Growth
Hormone stimulation test is able to give a more accurate
result than others. The ideal level of HGH for this test is
10 ng/ml. If there is a decrease in HGH level means it is
pituitary deficiency.

The very last test we have to determine the level of HGH is
the growth hormone suppression test. It is also known as
glucose loading test. This test is able to determine the
excessive baseline level of human growth hormone. This test
requires two different blood samples. The first is to be
taken before glucose is given and the second one is to be
taken two hours after the glucose has been given and
injested. Then the HGH level is based on the loading of
glucose. Normally, the result for suppressed HGH level is
around 3 ng/ml. If it is around 5 ng/ml then it is a sign
of acromegaly.

Chase The Winter Blues With Retirement Hobbies.

Chase The Winter Blues With Retirement Hobbies.
A good balance between work and leisure time is essential
to a healthy life. There seems to be a chemical explanation
for some of the depression problems that we may have
overlooked. The dimmed natural light of winter signals the
body to increase the production of melatonin. For many of
us who already spend much of our time indoors, the
increased production of this chemical makes it intensify.
In some people this can create a psychological reaction.
Most people maintain their work and social lives at a much
more consistent pace throughout the year than did our
ancestors in their subsistence farming or fishing societies
with their much reduced activity in winter. This problem
has been labeled as Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD)

The IRPP (The Institute for Research in Public Policy
(IRPP.org) an independent,national, non-profit
organization, Founded in 1972, based in Montreal).in a
study released February 1, 2007 revealed that for many
Canadians the so-called "leisure-society," in which
everyone has more free time, is more a myth than a reality.
According to this report, the only winners in the "leisure
society" are retirees and students, while working parents
are the biggest losers.

The IRPP suggests that retirees are one of the winners in
the "leisure society", meaning we have more free time on
our hands. Sounds great doesn't it? Or does it? More free
time with nothing to do will lead to boredom, with all the
accompanying problems, especially during the winter months
in the northern hemisphere.

The primary feature of SAD is a pattern of depression that
occurs with the onset of the winter months. As the days
become shorter, and the weather colder, there is an
increase in depressive symptoms. Individuals eat more,
sleep more, experience chronic fatigue and weight gain.
Some have described SAD as hibernation during the winter
months.

Individuals have varying levels of effects from SAD,
ranging from debilitating to inconvenient. The symptoms
abate once the days become longer and warmer in the Spring.
The hibernation is over for another year.

Those who become depressed in the winter months want to
know what they can do to combat this depression. Because
both biological and physical factors play a role in most
depression, it is difficult to develop an experimental
study that will control relevant variables to produce
definitive answers.

This is still a specific type of clinical depression, and
diagnosis that is made by a physician, psychologist, or
psychiatrist and is based on symptoms and the history of
recurring "winter blues" that goes away in the longer days
of spring.

Consider using hobbies for your retirement free time to
help with the "winter blues". Find yourself a good hobby. A
hobby is a great way to develop skills and even interact
with other people. Some of them will generate an extra
income stream. A hobby builds on itself in a fascinating
way. You start out knowing nothing and gradually build a
set of skills. Even if these skills aren't particularly
useful, the process helps you learn how to learn. Once
you've developed the first set of skills the next set is
even easier.

Finding Your Fat Loss Trigger

Finding Your Fat Loss Trigger
Everyone has a trigger - a point in time where you decide
to finally take action. For some, it's a trip to the
doctor's office. For others, it could be a special occasion
where you want to look your best - a wedding, a reunion, or
a beach vacation. For me, it was one of the socially
awkward situations that fat people often find themselves in.

So there I was, breathing heavily and drenched in sweat. I
had just "sprinted" (or as some might call it, "rumbled")
through McCarran International Airport to catch the last
flight back to the East Coast on a leisure trip to Las
Vegas. My bags were strapped around my chest and digging
into my ample man cleavage. You could hear the groans and
huffs directed at the late arriving passenger as soon as I
got on the jetway. Those quickly turned into eye rolls and
squished faces as they saw my sweaty, fat self turn the
corner and board the plane. I struggled to fit my bags, my
gut and my rump down the extremely narrow aisle (it was
later I realized that the aisle was so narrow because half
the plane was as fat as I was, they just weren't sweating
because they were on time). I arrived at my row to find
that I was rewarded with a 757 middle seat...a fate worse
than death for a fat man. Not only that, but the entire
plane is waiting for me to stow my bags and get seated so
we can make the long trek home.

So as I struggle to fit my bag under the seat, I could feel
the eyes focused on my big, fat sweaty butt bent over,
undoubtedly brushing the shoulder of the person across the
aisle. Unfortunately, my rear was so big that I had kind of
lost feeling in the farthest reaches of it, so if I was
hitting into something I didn't really know it. I got my
bags wedged in under the seat in front of me, and now it
was time for the fun part - wedging my rump into the seat.

I could see the lucky person in the window seat fidgeting
as I entered the row, staring out the window blankly with a
scowl on her face. She knew that, not only was she going to
be sitting next to a sweaty, fat guy for 4+ hours, but that
if I needed some extra space I would most likely be leaning
in her direction, as she was smaller in stature than the
woman occupying the aisle seat.

I get into the seat and struggle with pulling the seatbelt
out from under my weighty butt. The entire time I can see
the beads of sweat flying to and fro and landing on the
floor and seat in front of me - enough to make even me
throw up in my mouth just a little. I am muttering to
myself, praying that I won't need a seatbelt extension.
Luckily I have enough abdominal strength to suck in just
enough to get the seatbelt around me. When I breathe out
again and try to sit back, I can feel the vinyl armrests
digging into my sides and the cold sweat-soaked shirt
slowly sticking to my skin all up and down my back. The
woman on the aisle gave me a look of disgust as she sat
back down, Mrs. Glass House that she was.

As the captain made his announcements, I could feel my
heart rate return to "normal" and could also feel the rash
forming on the sides of my gut from the relentless armrests
- I certainly had a case of the Dunlops (my gut had
"dun-lopped" over the armrests!)

Luckily, the woman on the window had a bladder like a
camel, because I closed my eyes and fell asleep - probably
filling the entire plane with animal-like snores from the
excess neck fat I was carrying. I didn't want to risk being
awake when the snack cart came around.

What was, in reality, 15 minutes from the time I got
through airport security to the time I was seated, felt
like an eternity to me. That happens when you are
navigating through a most dreaded experience.

That was my watershed - or in this case, my fatshed -
moment. It was then that I admitted to myself that I was
fat and needed to do something about it.

Alternative Medicine for Rheumatoid Arthritis

Alternative Medicine for Rheumatoid Arthritis
Rheumatoid arthritis, or RA, is a debilitating, painful
autoimmune disease that affects the joints, causing severe
pain and discomfort. Patients with RA suffer not only from
pain, but stiffness, fatigue, fever, and sleep disorders.
According to healthandage.com, RA is a chronic disease that
will affect a patient throughout their lifetime, requiring
a variety of medicines, physical therapy, and in extreme
cases, surgery. While there is no cure, there are several
treatment options, including complementary/alternative
medicine, commonly called CAM. According to the National
Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine, NCCAM,
alternative medicines are not considered conventional
treatments at this time - that is "medicine as practiced by
holders of M.D. (medical doctor) or D.O. (doctor of
osteopathy) degrees." This means that alternative options
are controversial.

Nonetheless, some patients have great successes with
alternative treatments. It is important to stress that
alternative treatments are not meant as a complete
replacement for conventional medical treatments. The NCCAM
also stresses that patients should first seek diagnosis by
a doctor, and follow up treatment with a rheumatologist.
Also worth noting is that few alternative treatments have
been proven to be completely effective, though some have
shown promise, and more study is required.

So what are alternative treatments? There are a surprising
number of alternative options available that might mean the
avoidance of invasive surgeries, and they are not all
herbal supplements, as you might think. Herbs are one way
sufferers go about treating their disease. Many herbs -
ginger, turmeric, frankincense - may help relieve arthritis
symptoms, says Arthritis Treatment and Relief.

However, none of these herbs has been proven to work, and
again more research is needed. Another form of treatment
applies physical therapy in the form of acupuncture,
chiropractics, massage, and balneotherapy, or spa therapy.
The theory here is not necessarily to treat the joints
themselves, but to provide forms of relief to the symptoms
of the arthritis. These must generally be done often to
provide substantial relief.

Another popular idea has been the use of yoga and tai chi,
as well as forms of meditation, for pain control. Exercise
for patients with RA has to be strictly limited to avoid
inflammation. However, small amounts of exercise helps to
relieve some of the painful symptoms associated with RA.
That is where yoga and tai chi come in. They help patients
maintain muscle flexibility and increase mobility, stamina,
and overall health. Perhaps the most important
consideration to take when contemplating complementary or
alternative medicines is trying them and deciding what
works best for you.

Tips for Dining Out After Gastric Bypass Surgery

Tips for Dining Out After Gastric Bypass Surgery
Gastric Bypass surgery drastically changes your eating
habits, but most people are able to adapt quite well at
home. Family members and friends are very supportive and
proud of you for your efforts to become healthy.

Unfortunately, eating out can sometimes be challenging.
From hidden ingredients to portion size, there is no lack
of challenges that face the gastric bypass diner.

Finer restaurants tend to offer healthier foods and smaller
portions. They also are more expensive. And they may also
will add oils and sugars to food items that you would never
guess. Make sure you always ask your waiter or waitress to
confirm there is no unwanted additions to your food.

In order to eat healthy at fast food restaurants and other
places to dine that are more in your budget range, you will
have to closely read the menus and be smart. It really
isn't that hard, sine many fast food restaurants offer more
healthy foods than ever.

Most fast food places have salads, but did you know that
some of those places add sugar to their salads to make them
taste better? Look at the nutritional guidelines or ask the
manager if there is added sugar before consuming fast food
salads. You want to avoid added sugars after gastric bypass.

A lot of burger joints are now offering fruits. This is a
great choice. It is hard to tamper with or add sugars to an
apple or banana.

Your drink should be either water or unsweetened tea.
Another great idea is to bring your own meal so you can
still eat healthy while spending time with your family.

Mid-priced restaurants will definitely have healthier
choices, but their portion sizes tend to be huge. Want a
great tip? Order a side dish. They are smaller that the
portion you get as a meal. You can also buy an entree for
your spouse and ask for a second plate, then he or she can
share their meal with you and save money too.

If neither one of those options appeal to you, just take
the remainder of your meal home and you won't have to cook
lunch the next day!

When eating a salad, put the non-fat dressing on the side
instead of all over your veggies. Then dip your fork-full
into the dressing. You will consume less dressing thus less
fats. You can also use a vinaigrette without oil. I
personally love salad spritzed with a good flavored
vinaigrette like red wine or balsamic. Cut your salad into
smaller bites and chew thoroughly to make your meal last as
long as the person you are dining with.

Dining out after gastric bypass can be enjoyable with just
a few eating modifications. You don't even have to tell
people about your surgery. If you order smart and chew
slowly, no one will notice anything different.

When eating at a restaurant with your family, you can save
money by sharing a meal. It may seem frustrating at first,
but these gastric bypass diet tips will become second
nature after a while.
