Stop Bleeding Gums

Stop Bleeding Gums
The best way to stop bleeding gums is to attack the
underlying infection that makes them vulnerable. With a few
simple measures, it is easy to kill the germs that cause
the bleeding and to prevent escalating disease. Take
precautions at the first signs of gum disease and you can
spare yourself literally thousands of dollars in dentist
bills.

How to Stop Bleeding Gums

If you tend to notice your gums bleeding while brushing or
flossing your teeth, there's a good chance you suffer from
gum disease. Indeed, the most common symptoms of gingivitis
are swelling and bleeding around the gum line. Although in
and of themselves, these symptoms are no cause for alarm,
they should be treated promptly to prevent further decay.

Oral bacteria are a primary source of bleeding gums and
your best bet is to tackle germs aggressively. Dentists are
quick to warn that, when left untreated, the bacterial
infection that causes gum bleeding can advance to more
serious conditions. Therefore, it is imperative to tackle
these pesky bacteria as early as possible.

There are several ways to kill bacteria. We believe a
holistic, all-natural approach that patients may use over
the long-term. More than a simple post-hoc solution, our
treatments can prevent gum disease as well as reverse it
once it has occurred. We know that no one likes repeated
trips to the dentist's office and our goal is to empower
patients with tools they can use safely at home.

There are many causes of bleeding gums, most of which may
be addressed easily at home. With early intervention and
the right treatment approach, it is easy to restore the
integrity of your gums and to prevent future disease. The
key is to understand how infection develops and what
contributes to successful treatment.

The most common cause of bleeding gums is gingivitis, a
mild form of gum disease that develops when plaque and
bacteria infect the area around the teeth and gums.
Gingivitis is generally painless, but when left untreated,
it can develop into a more severe condition that puts
people at risk for teeth loss and other illness.

Finding Cost-Effective Treatment There are many treatment
options for bleeding gums, the best of which come in the
form of preventive measures. Hygiene products that kill
bacteria and prevent plaque build up are your keys to
success. Although there are antibacterial treatments you
can receive in the dentist's office, this approach can
prove quite costly.

Propecia and Proscar against prostatic hyperplasia and hair loss - Important facts

Propecia and Proscar against prostatic hyperplasia and hair loss - Important facts
Propecia and Proscar are most effective medicines against
prostatic hyperplasia and hair loss.

Propecia and Proscar are similar medicines - generic name
is Finasteride.

Finasteride prevents the conversion of testosterone to
dihydrotestosterone (DHT) in the body. DHT is involved in
the development of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and
hair loss.

Finasteride is used to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia
(enlarged prostate) and to reduce hair loss due to male
baldness.

*** Important facts about Propecia

Propecia is NOT for use by women. If taken during
pregnancy, it can cause abnormal development of a male
baby's genital organs.

Propecia is a remedy for baldness in men with mild to
moderate hair loss on the top of the head and the front of
the mid-scalp area. It increases hair growth, improves hair
regrowth, and slows down hair loss. It works only on scalp
hair and does not affect hair on other parts of the body.

You may begin to see improvement as early as 3 months after
you begin taking Propecia, but for many men it takes
longer. The improvement lasts only as long as you take the
drug; if you stop, new hair growth will cease and hair loss
will resume.

Propecia is a low-dose form of Proscar, a drug prescribed
for prostate enlargement.

How to take Propecia?

For maximum benefit, take Propecia regularly once a day. It
can be taken with or without food.

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it
is almost time for your next dose, skip the one you missed
and go back to your regular schedule. Do not take 2 doses
at the same time.

* Storage instructions

Store at room temperature in a closed container away from
moisture.

* Propecia side effects

Propecia's side effects are primarily sexual, and
relatively uncommon--they strike one or two men in a
hundred. If any side effects develop or change in
intensity, inform your doctor as soon as possible. Only
your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue
taking Propecia.

* Side effects may include:

Breast tenderness and enlargement, decreased amount of
semen per ejaculation, decreased sex drive, impotence,
itching, rash, swelling, testicular pain.

Due to the drug's effect on male babies, women should avoid
Propecia if there is any chance that they may be pregnant.

Do not use Propecia if it gives you an allergic reaction,
or if you've ever had an allergic reaction to its chemical
twin, Proscar.

If there's even a possibility that they're pregnant, women
should avoid handling a crushed or broken Propecia tablet
for fear of absorbing some of the active ingredient through
the skin. Whole tablets are safe to handle thanks to a
protective outer coating.

Avoid even touching the active ingredient in Propecia if
there's a chance that you're pregnant. Use Propecia with
caution if you have liver problems.

Propecia lowers readings of the PSA screening test for
prostate cancer. If you're scheduled to have your PSA level
checked, make sure the doctor knows you're taking Propecia.

*** Important facts about Proscar

Proscar is prescribed to help shrink an enlarged prostate.
Some doctors are also prescribing Proscar for baldness and
as a preventive measure against prostate cancer.

The prostate, a chestnut-shaped gland present in males,
produces a liquid that forms part of the semen. This gland
completely encloses the upper part of the urethra, the tube
through which urine flows out of the bladder. Many men over
age 50 suffer from a benign (noncancerous) enlargement of
the prostate.

The enlarged gland squeezes the urethra, obstructing the
normal flow of urine. Resulting problems may include
difficulty in starting urination, weak flow of urine, and
the need to urinate urgently or frequently. Sometimes
surgical removal of the prostate is necessary.

By shrinking the enlarged prostate, Proscar may alleviate
the various associated urinary problems, making surgery
unnecessary.

Different men have different responses to Proscar:

You may experience early relief from your urinary problems.
You may need to take the drug for 6 months or even a year
before noticing any improvement. Or you may find that, even
after a year of treatment, Proscar simply has not helped
you.

You may take Proscar either with a meal or between meals.

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it
is almost time for your next dose, skip the one you missed
and go back to your regular schedule. Never take 2 doses at
the same time.

* Storage instructions...

Store at room temperature in a tightly closed container.
Protect from light.

* Proscar side effects

Side effects cannot be anticipated. If any develop or
change in intensity, inform your doctor as soon as
possible. Only your doctor can determine if it is safe for
you to continue taking Proscar.

* Side effects may include:

Decreased amount of semen per ejaculation, decreased sex
drive, impotence.

Benign enlargement of the prostate is not the only
condition that can cause male urinary inefficiency and
discomfort. Other possibilities include infection,
obstruction, cancer of the prostate, and bladder disorders.
Before prescribing Proscar, your doctor will want to do
various tests to determine the cause of your urinary
problems.

Even if Proscar does relieve your urinary symptoms,
periodic checkups are necessary to test for possible
development of cancer of the prostate. Proscar is not an
effective treatment for prostate cancer.

* Possible food and drug interactions when taking Propecia
and Proscar - no significant drug interactions have been
reported.

* Recommended dosage for Propecia and Proscar - Adult men.

* Overdosage

Although no specific information is available on Propecia
and Proscar overdose, any medication taken in excess can
have serious consequences.

Stress management?

Stress management?
You know what? Stress management doesn't work!

I can just hear you say "What are you talking about?" "Are
you crazy?"

Well - the simple fact is that stress is NOT something you
can manage. There is a lot of hype about stress being
manageable, and it IS possible to be more efficient, and
eliminate some of the time consuming tasks you face
everyday. But eventually you WILL have to make a decision
to STOP accepting more stress altogether.

Stress builds on you if you forget to wind down, so you
have to decide to release your stress on a daily basis.
And, by the way - watching TV does NOT release stress. When
you watch the news or a movie - whether it is action, drama
or thriller, you ADD to the stress you have already built
up during your day.

We all have 24 hours to spend everyday. That's it. No more
- no less. We talk about "saving time" - well what is that
about? It's completely impossible to save time. The only
thing you may do, is work harder, so that you feel stressed
sooner. If you don't take time off regularly to REGAIN your
strength - mentally as well as physically - you will end up
being stressed - management or not.

So how to fight the stress? First of all, stress should not
be fought. Stress is a reminder from your body that you
have gone too far. It's like when you feel pain in your
knees after having run too much - you stop. Stress is pain
in you psyche, and it can look like fattigue, depression,
lack of sexual desire, tiredness, and eventually even as
physical pains. Don't fight stress - accept it, and choose
differently. Because YOU have chosen your own stress!

That's right. You did it. Either by accepting too much -
not saying no, or by offering to help, even when you know
that you can't make it without a cost in the end. Why do
you choose stress, when you know how dangerous it is? There
are many reasons, but most have to do with the way you were
brought up. You have been conditioned by your parents,
teachers, friends and yourself to live your life the way
you do.

You have accepted incredible amounts of information as
"facts" daily since you were a child, simply because they
are being conveyed by authorities in you life. When mom or
dad tells you that "working hard is necessary to live in a
harsh world" you may just accept it, and for the rest of
your life you could believe that to be a fact. It will then
affect all of your decisions that has to do with work and
the world, as well as probably also affect your idea about
money.

Look around you. The facts you find are true to you, may
not be so to others. In fact most of what we hold true, is
only true to us, and nobody else. We have accumulated so
much "knowledge" that we have experts telling us that "this
is the way" and a different expert will say exactly the
opposite. We are in conflict with ourselves, and that is
creating big amounts of stress in us.

How can you escape this vicious circle?
1. First of all, you have to accept the fact you are
caught, and want to get out.
2. Next, you must start doing something else.. If you keep
doing what you have always done, you will get the results
you have always gotten. Trying to get a different result by
doing what you used to do, is illogical, and frankly
naïve.
3. Thirdly you should make your desire to change visible.
Take a piece of paper and write what you want. Don't write
what you don't want! And make sure that what you write is
positive and in the present tense. For instance: Don't
write "I don't want to be stressed anymore" Instead write:
"I am so happy that I am living the life I want with loving
people around me." Place that piece of paper on your
bedroom mirror, or somewhere else you will see it often.
Better yet. Make several, and spread them across your walls
and doors.
4. Take action. After having started the process, you will
need discipline to make the change permanent. Be sure to
congratulate yourself every 2-3 days with being firm, and
keeping a promise to yourself. Go to a cafe, or invite
yourself to a dinner at a restaurant. Visit some friends or
do something else that characterizes as a pad on your
shoulder.
5. Finally, when you have been going for a while, you will
have made a permanent change. Usually this takes somewhere
between 21 days and a month. When you have noticed that the
change is there, you should give yourself something you
have desired for a while. This action will enhance your
feeling of success, and motivate you whenever you want to
make another change in your life.

Stress is destroying you, and cannot be managed - start
changing the circle TODAY.

Speed Bumps To Weight Loss

Speed Bumps To Weight Loss
The process of eating healthy and losing weight isn't a
straight shot path without any bends, turns, or speed
bumps. Along the way, you're going to make a food choice
that isn't on your diet plan. It isn't a question of "if"
more than "when." Dieting isn't meant to be rigid and
inflexible. There are times that you're going to eat off
your program and make less than healthy choices. That is
reality and this thing called "life."

The key to success is what you do the majority of time.
Dieting and losing weight isn't shining a spotlight on a
single choice, a specific day or two. It is a zoom out
perspective of what you do over the period of a few days,
weeks, and months. We didn't become overweight with one
bad choice or even "going for it" for a few days. We've
become overweight through multiple unhealthy choices over a
prolonged period of time. Don't let a bad choice derail
you. You don't have to wait until Monday or the following
day to start again. When you make a bad choice, pick
yourself up and begin again right then. You don't have to
beat yourself for a bad choice but congratulate yourself
for getting right back on track. Now that's reason to feel
proud of yourself.

Many of us expect perfection of ourselves when it comes to
our weight loss program. We feel discouraged and
disappointed in ourselves when we go off track. It's your
consistent eating patterns over weeks and months that
matter and add up to weight loss. Those occasional
slip-ups are merely speed bumps in the road. When you get
past the speed bump of a food slip up, put your pedal t the
metal and move full speed ahead to continue your weight
loss success. The occasional slip-ups do not determine
your weight loss success.

When you find yourself getting back on track, here are some
suggested strategies to stay on track:

* Eat only fruits and vegetables for between meal snacks.

* Drink at least eight glasses of water (64 ounces total)
per day. This will help you feel less hungry and your
metabolism running efficiently and at its maximum.

* Do not skip meals to make up for an earlier calorie
indulgence. Skipping meals only serves to slow down your
metabolism.

* Keep a food and activity record. Record everything you
eat including a taste of this or a bite of that.

* Sugar-free and fat-free choices count. These choices are
not calorie-free. Make sure you're not eating excessive
amounts of these types of foods and thinking they are free
of calories.

* Make sure that you exercise and are active to gain that
feeling of control and being back on track.

* Don't beat yourself up for choices you can't take back.
Take note of why you made the choices you did and learn
from them. You can use these speed bumps as lessons for
future choices.

The journey to weight loss success isn't determined with
one choice. Zoom out in your perspective and know that
your weight loss success comes in consistent healthy
choices. Persistence with your weight loss plan is what is
important. Look at your weight loss as a continual journey
that has a few speed bumps along the way and has the most
beautiful scenery that is your life. Enjoy!

Drug against pain and arthritis Celebrex - Important facts

Drug against pain and arthritis Celebrex - Important facts
Celebrex is prescribed for acute pain, menstrual cramps,
and the pain and inflammation of osteoarthritis and
rheumatoid arthritis. It is a member of a new class of
nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) called COX-2
inhibitors.

Like older NSAIDs such as Motrin and Naprosyn, Celebrex is
believed to fight pain and inflammation by inhibiting the
effect of a natural enzyme called COX-2. Unlike the older
medications, however, it does not interfere with a similar
substance, called COX-1, which exerts a protective effect
on the lining of the stomach.

Therefore, Celebrex may be less likely to cause the
bleeding and ulcers that sometimes accompany sustained use
of the older NSAIDs.

Celebrex has also been found to reduce the number of
colorectal polyps (growths in the wall of the lower
intestine and rectum) in people who suffer from the
condition called familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP), an
inherited tendency to develop large numbers of colorectal
polyps that eventually become cancerous.

*** Most important fact about Celebrex

Like other NSAID medication, Celebrex could increase the
chance of having a heart attack or stroke, possibly
resulting in death. The risk is greater if you have heart
disease or use NSAIDs for a long time. It's important to
discuss the risks and benefits of using Celebrex with your
doctor and to use the lowest effective dose for the
shortest amount of time possible.

Although Celebrex is easy on the stomach, it still poses
some degree of risk—especially if you've had a stomach
ulcer or gastrointestinal bleeding in the past. All NSAIDs,
including Celebrex, can cause serious—and even
life-threatening—ulcers and bleeding in the stomach and
intestines.

These side effects can happen without symptoms and may
occur at any time during treatment. If you've ever had
ulcers or stomach bleeding, make sure the doctor is aware
of it. And be sure to alert the doctor if you develop any
digestive problems or notice a change in your bowel
movement (such as blood in the stool or black, sticky
stools).

* Side effects

Side effects cannot be anticipated. If any develop or
change in intensity, inform your doctor as soon as
possible. Only your doctor can determine if it is safe for
you to continue taking Celebrex.

Side effects may include:

Abdominal pain, diarrhea, headache, indigestion, nausea,
respiratory infection, sinus inflammation.

Do not take Celebrex right before or after heart bypass
surgery (also called coronary artery bypass graft, or CABG).

In addition, you should not use Celebrex if you are
allergic to sulfonamide drugs such as sulfadiazine,
sulfisoxazole, Gantanol, and Thiosulfil. Also avoid the
drug if you've ever suffered an asthma attack, face and
throat swelling, or skin eruptions after taking aspirin or
other NSAIDs. If you find that you are allergic to
Celebrex, you will not be able to use it.

Also alert your doctor if you develop any digestive
problems, swelling, or rash. The chance of developing a
stomach ulcer or bleeding while taking Celebrex increases
if you also take steroid drugs or blood thinners, smoke,
drink alcohol, or use Celebrex or other NSAID medications
for a long time. The risk is also greater if you're older
or in poor health.

If you have asthma, use Celebrex with caution. It could
trigger an attack, especially if you are also sensitive to
aspirin.

If you are taking a steroid medication for your arthritis,
do not discontinue it abruptly when you begin therapy with
Celebrex. Celebrex is not a substitute for such drugs.

Celebrex has been known to cause kidney or liver problems,
particularly in people with an existing condition. If you
have such a disorder, take Celebrex with caution. If you
develop symptoms of liver poisoning, stop taking the drug
and see your doctor immediately. Warning signs include
nausea, fatigue, itching, yellowish skin, pain in the right
side of the stomach, and flu-like symptoms.

If you are prone to anemia (loss of red blood cells), make
sure the doctor knows about it. Celebrex occasionally
fosters this problem.

Celebrex sometimes causes water retention, which can
aggravate swelling, high blood pressure, and heart failure.
Use Celebrex with caution if you have any of these
conditions.

There is no proof that Celebrex reduces the odds of cancer
in people who take the drug for FAP. Although Celebrex can
reduce the number of growths, you'll still need the other
treatments and frequent checkups that this condition
requires.

Bodybuilding Cutting Exercises are a Fitness Myth

Bodybuilding Cutting Exercises are a Fitness Myth
Why Cutting Exercises Are a Fat Loss Myth

High repetition sets do not get you cut.

This is a myth, and there's a much better way to sculpt
your body, get ripped, and finally achieve the elusive
6-pack.

But again, let me repeat, you won't succeed with
high-repetition sets using light weights. And don't even
worry about the "pump", but that's another article for
another day.

Everyone wants to lower their body fat, from overweight
individuals to competitive bodybuilders. We want to be able
to see our well-earned muscles and our 6-pack abs.

And that's why we get lured into the belief of the cutting
exercises. Because it causes a burn in our muscles, we
generally think, hey, this must be burning fat. But it's
not! It's just a fatiguing sensation.

If you are using a high-rep, cutting program, I doubt you
are getting the results you want. You are probably working
out for over an hour, doing way too many exercises.

There is a better way to burn fat. A faster way. And a
smarter way. It doesn't involve "toning" workouts or
"Cutting exercises". What you need to do for fat loss, and
getting cut, is to focus on the same exercises that helped
you build muscle in the first place.

So forget the pec-dec, and stick with dumbell presses. Say
goodbye to leg extensions, and keep using squats and
lunges. Next up is the shocker! We don't need long slow
cardio workouts either!

Instead, we'll use interval training to burn fat and boost
our metabolism in less than half the time as a normal
cardio workout. Only 20 minutes of interval training done 3
times per week resulted in weight loss in one Australian
study.

On the other hand, three 40-minute cardio sessions did not
cause any weight loss in the same study. Shocking results,
but it just goes to show you the power of intensity.

You need to stick with the intensity for both lifting and
"cardio" to get maximum results. That means saying goodbye
to light weights and high reps and long slow cardio.
Goodbye, nice to know you! Okay, so what is going to bring
you the results and "cut" body you want?

First, you need the proper dietary changes to promote
muscle gains and body fat reductions. Nutrition is the most
important factor for fat burning and getting cut.

If your nutrition sucks, and you eat fast food or skip
meals, you are in big trouble. There is no workout good
enough to overcome bad nutrition. Next, focus on
multi-muscle strength exercises and finish with interval
training to burn more calories out of the gym.

Basic exercises such as squats, pushes, rows, and pulls
done for 3-4 sets of 8 repetitions. Do one of each type of
exercise in a total body workout, three times per week.
Keep it incredibly simple, but intense.

Then add intervals at the end of the workout to boost your
metabolism even more. That's all you need for a better
body, ripped abs, and a cut physique.

Is Suboxone At Odds With Traditional Recovery? Part three.

Is Suboxone At Odds With Traditional Recovery? Part three.
Part Three: Combining suboxone treatment and traditional
recovery.

Once the dynamic relationship between use obsession and
character defects is understood, the proper relationship
between suboxone and traditional recovery becomes clear.
Should people taking suboxone attend NA or AA? Yes, if
they want to. A 12-step program has much to offer an
addict, or anyone for that matter. But I see little use in
forced or coerced attendance at meetings. The recovery
message requires a level of acceptance that comes about
during desperate times, and people on suboxone do not feel
desperate. In fact, people on suboxone often report that
'they feel normal for the first time in their lives'. A
person in this state of mind is not going to do the
difficult personal inventories of AA unless otherwise
motivated by his/her own internal desire to change.

The role of 'desperation' should be addressed at this time:
In traditional treatment desperation is the most important
prerequisite to making progress, as it takes the
desperation of being at 'rock bottom' to open the mind to
see one's powerlessness. But when recovery from addiction
is viewed through the remission model, the lack of
desperation is a good thing, as it allows the reinstatement
of the addict's own positive character. Such a view is
consistent with the 'hierarchy of needs' put forward by
Abraham Maslow in 1943; there can be little interest in
higher order traits when one is fighting for one's life.

Other Questions (and answers):

-Should suboxone patients be in a recovery group? I have
similar reservations about forced attendance, but there is
something to be gained from the sense of support that a
good group can provide.

-What is the value of the 4th through 6th steps of a
12-step program, where the addict specifically addresses
his/her character defects and asks for their removal by a
higher power? Are these steps critical to the resolution
of character defects? These steps are necessary for
addicts in 'sober recovery', as the obsession to use will
come and go to varying degrees over time depending on the
individual and his/her stress level. But for a person
taking suboxone I see the steps as valuable, but not
essential.

-Where does methadone fit in? Methadone is just another
opiate agonist. A newly-raised dosage will prevent
cravings temporarily, but as tolerance inevitably rises,
cravings will return. With cravings comes the obsession to
use and the associated character defects. This explains
the profound difference in the subjective experiences of
addicts maintained on suboxone versus methadone, and
explains why in my practice I have many patients who have
switched to suboxone, but none in the other direction.

The downside of suboxone.

Practitioners in traditional AODA treatment programs will
see suboxone as at best a mixed blessing. Desperation is
often required to open the addict's mind to change, and
desperation is harder to achieve when an addict has the
option to leave treatment and find a practitioner who will
prescribe suboxone. Suboxone is sometimes used 'on the
street' by addicts who want to take time off from addiction
without committing to long term sobriety. Suboxone itself
can be abused for short periods of time, until tolerance
develops to the drug. Snorting suboxone reportedly results
in a faster time of onset, without allowing the absorption
of the naloxone that prevents intravenous use. Finally,
the remission model of suboxone use implies long term use
of the drug. Chronic use of any opiate, including
suboxone, has the potential for negative effects on
testosterone levels and sexual function, and the use of
suboxone is complicated when surgery is necessary. Short-
or moderate-term use of suboxone raises a host of
additional questions, including how to convert from
drug-induced remission, without desperation, to sober
recovery, which often requires desperation.

The beginning of the future.

Time will tell whether or not suboxone will work with
traditional recovery, or whether there will continue to be
two distinct options that are in some ways at odds with
each other. The good news is that treatment of opiate
addiction has proven to be profitable for at least one
pharmaceutical company, and such success will surely invite
a great deal of research into addiction treatment. At one
time we had two or three treatment options for
hypertension, including a drug called reserpine that would
never be used for similar indications today. Some day we
will likely look back on suboxone as the beginning of new
age of addiction treatment. But for now, the treatment
community would be best served by recognizing each other's
strengths, rather than pointing out their weaknesses.

The Benefits of Liquid Calcium Supplements - what they do, how they do it

The Benefits of Liquid Calcium Supplements - what they do, how they do it
If you have a bone problem then the benefits of liquid
calcium supplements are what you need to supplement the
calcium content of your diet, and also to provide the other
elements that can promote the health of your bones and
joints.

Liquid supplements in general have advantages of pills and
capsules in that the active ingredients are much more
easily absorbed by the body, and also cause fewer digestion
problems. Take capsules for example. Normally made from
gelatine, they are not vegetarian friendly, and can
partially dissolve in the stomach to form a tough gluey
mass that retards the assimilation of the supplement into
the body.

It is well known that liquids are the best form of medicine
or supplement, which is why so much effort and money has
been expended over the years in developing soluble versions
of simple medications such as aspirin, paracetamol and even
protein supplements. If you have the choice between a
solid or a liquid form of any particular substance that has
to be ingested into the body to be effective, then the
soluble version wins every time unless a form of prolonged
release is necessary.

This is as true of bone supplements as it is of any other,
and particularly true of supplements containing both
calcium and glucosamine. Glucosamine is manufactured in
small amounts during the normal biochemistry of your body,
but decreases as you age. Glucosamine is a chemical that
is used by your body for the manufacture of cartilage that
protects the bones in your joint by providing a cushion
between them. Without cartilage the bone ends of your
joints would rapidly wear, a condition commonly known as
osteoarthritis.

The main structural components of the cartilage in your
body are substances known as glucosaminoglycans, and they
are responsible for connective tissues such as tendons,
ligaments, veins and arteries, heart valves, skin and also
for bones, nails and eyes. Glucosamine does not act
immediately, but is used as a precursor for the biochemical
manufacture of the aminoglycan. Supplemental glucosamine
is used medically as a treatment for osteoarthritis and
osteoporosis, or brittle bone disease.

One of the major problems with Glucosamine is that
chemically it is a large amino sugar molecule and,
especially in joints, has to pass through the capillaries
to reach the point at which it is required. Only a small
proportion of molecules available actually get to the site
where they are needed, and so the dosage is consequently
larger than it normally would be. Doses of about 1500mg
daily are normal. Studies have indicated that the liquid
form is more easily absorbed, even though the molecular
size is the same.

Glucosamine is also the only currently available treatment
that medical experts believe might slow down the joint
degeneration of osteoarthritis, and in conjunction with
supplemental calcium, also of osteoporosis. A calcium
supplement is useful if taken in conjunction of Vitamin D
and magnesium, since these are needed to enable the calcium
to be properly assimilated by the body in a form that can
be used for the growth, maintenance and repair of bone
tissue.

However, calcium and glucosamine are not the only
substances that can help to reduce the symptoms and effects
of bone conditions such as arthritis. Omega fatty acids
can also help, particularly with rheumatoid arthritis, and
a complete and well balanced supplement contain Omega 3, 6
and 9 fatty acids can help to protect you not only from
bone conditions, but also many others such as heart
disease, skin problems, diabetes and some cancers.

Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty acids in a 1:1 ratio is ideal,
although most Americans consume a diet too high in Omega 6,
with consequent health risks. Omega 6 is good for you, but
only in moderation relative to your Omega 3 intake. Omega 9
fatty acids can reduce the chances of you developing
atherosclerosis, with a consequent reduction on the
possibility of heart disease and strokes. It is a strong
antioxidant and can help to reduce your cholesterol level
and blood pressure, and together with Omega 3 and 6 reduce
the risk of breast cancer.

When you consider all of these benefits of the Omega fatty
acids, and also of calcium and Glucosamine supplements in
association with Vitamin D and magnesium, any supplement
containing all of these would of extreme benefit, not only
to those suffering from arthritis and other bone
conditions, but also of high cholesterol levels and high
blood pressure.

Such a supplement in liquid form would render it even more
potent due the much faster and more efficient absorption by
the body. The benefits of liquid calcium supplements would
then be augmented with substances that not only improve the
absorption and beneficial effects of the calcium, but also
provide the additional benefits of antioxidant and
anti-inflammatory properties that help to allay the painful
effects of bone and joint conditions.

The 5 Keys To Quit Smoking

The 5 Keys To Quit Smoking
Studies have shown that these five steps will help you quit
and quit for good. You have the best chances of quitting if
you use them together.

1 - Get ready;
2 - Get Support;
3 - Learn new skills and behaviors;
4 - Get medication and use it correctly;
5 - Be prepared for relapse or difficult situations.

1. Get Ready: Set a quit date. Change your environments;
get rid of all cigarettes and ashtrays in your home, car,
and place of work....and, DON'T let people smoke in your
home. Review your past attempts to quit. Think about what
worked and what did not. Once you quit, don't smoke - Not
even a PUFF!

2. Get Support and Encouragement: Studies have shown that
you have a better chance of being successful if you have
help. You can get support in many ways; tell your family,
friends, and co-workers that you are going to quit and want
their support. Ask them not to smoke around you or leave
cigarettes out. Talk to your health care provider (for
example: doctor, dentist, nurse, pharmacist, psychologist,
or smoking counselor). Get individual, group, or telephone
counseling. The more counseling you have, the better your
chances are of quitting. Programs are given at local
hospitals and health centers. Call your local health
department for information about programs in your area.

3. Learn New Skills and Behaviors: Try to distract yourself
from urges to smoke. Talk to someone, go for a walk, or get
busy with a task. When you first try to quit, change your
routine; use a different route to work, drink tea instead
of coffee, eat breakfast in a different place. Do something
to reduce your stress; take a hot bath, exercise, or read a
book. Plan something enjoyable to do every day. Drink a lot
of water. Educate yourself about why you smoke and ways to
quit.

4. Get Medication and Use It Correctly: Medication can help
you stop smoking and lessen the urge to smoke. The U.S.
Food and Drug Administration (FDA), as of January 2006, has
approved five medications to help you quit smoking:

- Bupropion SR: available by prescription - Nicotine gum:
available over-the-counter - Nicotine inhaler: available by
prescription - Nicotine nasal spray: available by
prescription - Nicotine patch: available by prescription
and over-the-counter There is also all-natural nicotine
replacement (herps - not medicine).

Ask your health care provider for advice and carefully read
the information on the package. All of these will more or
less double your chances of quitting and quitting for good.
Everyone who is trying to quit may benefit from using a
medication. If you are pregnant or trying to become
pregnant, nursing, under age 18, smoking fewer than 10
cigarettes per day, or have a medical condition, talk to
your doctor or other health care provider before taking
medications. It is always best to consult with a health
care professional under any circumstances.

5. Be Prepared For Relapse or Difficult Situations: Most
relapses occur within the first 3 months after quitting.
Don't be discouraged if you start smoking again. Remember,
most people try several times before they finally quit.
Here are some difficult situations to watch for:

- Alcohol. Avoid drinking alcohol. Drinking lowers your
chances of success.

- Other Smokers. Being around smoking can make you want to
smoke.

- Weight Gain. Many smokers will gain weight when they
quit, usually less than 10 pounds. Eat a healthy diet and
stay active. Don't let weight gain distract you from your
main goal; quitting smoking. Some quit-smoking medications
may help delay weight gain.

- Bad Mood or Depression. There are a lot of ways to
improve your mood other than smoking. If you are having
problems with any of these situations, talk to your doctor
or other health care provider.

Questions To Think About: Think about the following
questions. You may want to talk about your answers with
your health care provider.

Why do you want to quit? When you tried to quit in the
past, what helped and what didn't? What will be the most
difficult situations for you after you quit? How will you
plan to handle them? Who can help you through the tough
times? Your family? Friends? Health care provider? What
pleasures do you get from smoking? What ways can you still
get pleasure if you quit?

You CAN Quit!

Your Choice of Breast Implants

Your Choice of Breast Implants
The most important choice a woman makes in breast
augmentation is the choice of filler material of the breast
implant. As of 2006, silicone gel implants became available
again and thus one has to choose between saline (which has
been the only implant option available since 1992) and now
silicone. The thing to remember is.....neither type of
breast implant is perfect. If one was so much 'better' than
the other....we would have only one implant type, not two.
Both can satisfactorily increase breast size equally well,
they just have some different features (pluses and
minuses). Knowing what their benefits and liabilities are
can help you make the right choice for you.

Saline implants have the following benefits: 1) They are
put in deflated, rolled up, and inflated after they are in
proper position. Therefore, they can be put in through very
small remote incisions such as the armpit, 2) They cost
less than silicone, typically $1,000 less per operation,
and 3) They are the most natural material (salt water) so
if they leak, you are essentially just taking a big drink
of water. Saline implants have the following two
liabilities: 1) They have the phenomenon of wrinkling or
rippling. In other words, you will be able to feel, and
sometimes see, ripples along the bottom and sides of your
breasts. Most saline breast implant patients will
experience this 'normal' appearance, 2) The risk of
spontaneous deflation (rupture of the implant) is ever
present and increases the longer the implants are in place.
When a saline implant fails (ruptures), you will know it
almost immediately because you will develop a 'flat tire'
quite quickly. While some saline breast implants may never
deflate, it is unlikely they will last beyond 10 to 20
years.

Silicone implants have exactly the opposite benefits and
liabilities of saline implants. On the positive side, 1)
Silicone breast implants do not have the ripple phenomenon
that saline implants do. Therefore, they feel the most
natural. It can be very difficult, by feel, to ever know
that a breast has a silicone implant in place, and 2) While
a silicone gel implant can rupture, the filler material is
cohesive and does not come flowing out. As a result, the
breast does not deflate in size or get smaller. The
ruptured implant is essentially undetectable, and as long
as the breast remains soft and pain-free, you can live with
a ruptured silicone breast implant without the need for
further surgery. On the liability side, 1) Silicone
implants come pre-filled, thus needing a larger incision to
surgically implant it. The most common incision location
for silicone implants is in the inframammary crease (breast
fold). Remote incisions like the armpit, and often even the
nipple, are not big enough to insert the implant through.
And 2) they cost more than saline, at least $1,000 more in
most cases. Lastly, the issue of potential health risks
from silicone breast implants has been put to bed after
many years of extensive studies by implant manufacturers
and the FDA.

The best way to chose which type of breast implant is for
you......which of the negatives can you live with the
best......risk of rippling and deflation (saline)......or
higher cost and a bigger incision (silicone)...the choice
is truly yours!

Saving on Healthcare Costs: The Eight Top Ways

Saving on Healthcare Costs: The Eight Top Ways
You must be proactive on your wellness initiatives to keep
you from going broke!

All of us are in the same boat today and unfortunately that
boat seems to be sinking. Doctor bills, dental bills,
hospital bills, drug bills, chiropractor bills... and so
many more. Everyone is getting squeezed. So how can we
cope? What can you do, especially if you are an employer
paying the ever increasing insurance premium? Well, good
starts involve taking responsibility for your own health
first and being proactive about your own healthcare
decisions and then introduce it to your employees, if you
have them. Combine this with a Health Savings Account and
you are on the right path.

How about just not getting sick? Not so easy though. Here
are eight concepts you can introduce into your life that
may influence whether you or your co workers get sick or
stay healthy.

1) Promote healthy eating habits. That means eating well
and staying away from sugar and high fructose corn syrup,
both of which seem to be in everything these days. Sugar
will lower the immune system making you vulnerable to
bacterial and viral invasions.

2) Eliminate toxins from the body. Over the years we have
all been exposed to so many toxic chemicals and pollutants
that our brain and vital organs are getting all clogged up.
Detoxification is a buzz word these days and how very
important it is. The body must be cleaned out from within.
Infrared saunas, massage, lymphatic drainage, herbal teas
and soothing baths are a few ways to "get the junk out".

3) Maintain good dental health. The dental connections to
overall health are being discussed in the media with ever
more frequency. Gum disease is being listed as a risk
factor for heart disease as well as premature births and
low birth weight babies. Obesity, diabetes, stroke,
pulmonary infections, headaches, neurological disturbances,
and even cancer have relationships to dental health.

4) Help reduce stress and anxiety. Who do you know that is
not stressed out? Everyone is stressed to some degree but
how one deals with the stress is what really affects their
health. Undo pressure and tension place an unnatural
demand upon our hearts and minds. Allowing for more
natural methods such as biofeedback, meditation,
homeopathic remedies, acupuncture, guided imagery and sleep
therapies may allow you to someday wean off those very
potent anti depressant, anti anxiety drugs.

5) Provide educational materials. Become informed
consumers and patients. Everyone must learn as much as
they can about their medical diagnosis or suggested
treatment. Asking questions of the healthcare practitioner
about the course of treatments and how side effects may be
reduced should be encouraged. The internet is a wonderful
source of information but always research topics from a few
different viewpoints.

6) Taking responsibility for your own health. The chief
goal of us all is to live happy, productive and healthy
lives. The only way that will happen is if we decide to
assume the responsibility for maintaining our own wellness.
The unfortunate perception is that if one ever gets sick,
we can always have the drugs and surgeries to take care of
that problem. Live a healthy life and you might have a
longer life.

7) Encourage getting plenty of rest. Sleep is the time
when the body schedules itself for repair. It makes sense
that if you don't get enough sleep, then the repair process
is limited. Try limiting alcohol at night. A few hours
later when the alcohol turns to sugar, you wake up and stay
awake. Before bed, try reading something whose subject is
not too disturbing.

8) Obtain good health insurance. There are many types of
health insurance options in the marketplace from the HMOs
to the PPOs to the traditional indemnity plans. A lot of
these plans have limitations and exclusions that may limit
choice of practitioners or services.

A shift toward consumer responsibility for health comes
with the wave of Consumer Driven Health Insurance Plans
(HSA, HRA, FSA, MERP) which are a combination of high
deductible major medical insurance coverage with a savings
plan that is earmarked for services not normally covered by
traditional plans. They are designed to encourage better
health and are less costly than other plans. Check them out
today.

So here you have it. The secret to living a longer life
and lowering your healthcare costs all at the same time.
What a concept!
