7 Questions You Must Ask Your Personal Trainer To Avoid Losing Cash Hand Over Fist

7 Questions You Must Ask Your Personal Trainer To Avoid Losing Cash Hand Over Fist
Choosing a results driven and reliable personal trainer can
be tough.

With so many misleading and downright dishonest gimmicks,
and solutions in the dieting and weight loss industries
finding a reliable and honest trainer should be first and
foremost.

Before you even consider hiring a personal trainer consider
these 7 criteria that will help you find a solid and proven
personal training company.

1) What is their education and certification?

A quality Personal Trainer should have a national
accredited certification through a reputable agency such as
the National Strength & Conditioning Association or the
American Council on Exercise not some weekend crash course
where you pay for a certificate. Even with a certification
a trainer is only as good as the results they deliver with
their clients.

A solid academic background with a minimum of a bachelor's
in Exercise Science or related field will ensure a personal
trainer has the proper knowledge and background to produce
a results driven program that will deliver exactly what you
need - results.

2) Are you paying for sessions or results?

The standard view of a personal training is you pay for
sessions and you workout with a Personal Trainer. Are you
paying for sessions or the results from an effective and
fat burning fitness program? Any number of people can lead
you through a workout session. They need to be more than
just a rep counter at your sessions, they need to be a
coach that will show you all the critical elements to
achieve your health and fitness goals.

You should receive nutritional strategies, motivational
strategies and continuous accountability through email and
phone. You should receive continuous guidance and support
through every step of your quest for fitness. Look for a
personal trainer that will not just give you sessions, but
provide a detailed plan of action week by week to guarantee
your results and fitness success.

3) Do they have a proven system for results?

A highly successful fitness coach should do more than just
take your money - they should have a proven system for
delivering results with every single client. A system that
addresses each component of the fitness puzzle. A method
for coaching you through and ensuring you actually stick
with the program, checking up on you each week to make sure
you stick with the program for your own success.

4) What is their guarantee? (or do they even have a
guarantee)

What? A personal training guarantee? Yes! You invest into
your body with a personal trainer you better make sure you
will actually get something in return. A highly driven and
successful trainer will not blink an eye at offering a
guarantee. After all if they deliver results there should
be no worry about a guarantee.

Having a written and marketed guarantee proves you won't be
throwing away your hard earned $$ or your precious time.
Never work with a personal trainer unless they offer a !00%
Money-Back Guarantee.

5) Will they help you to make fitness a way of life for
your future?

What you need is really a fitness coach not a personal
trainer. Personal training is the service of guiding you
through a workout, fitness coaching is the service of
guiding you through getting you a fit body (more than just
a workout). Having a fitness coach with you every step of
the way will help you to avoid the confusion and misleading
info out there and find out how to maintain fitness as a
way of life not a temporary condition.

6) What experience to they have in the fitness industry?

A highly dedicated and motivated personal trainer will be
dedicated to fitness as a career. You don't want someone
who has fitness as just a hobby, who thinks hanging out at
the gym is a social event. Look for a personal trainer who
dedicates themself to continuous learning and continuous
improvement. Who has proven credibility through writing,
speaking and credentials.

Do they have published articles? Are they relied upon by
the media? Do they give presentations to public groups?
Have they been interviewed as a credible source for fitness
information? These are things to consider to help determine
if they are actually serious about fitness, which means
results for you.

7) Do they address every area needed to get you results?
(not just training sessions)

Look for a personal trainer that addresses more than just
working out. Look for someone who will show you how to
include proper eating habits, motivational strategies to
keep you going with your fitness program, and gives you a
detailed plan of action to get you to that body you desire
in the shortest amount of time possible.

If you don't address each area you going to end up sunk
with wasted time and $$.

Help ! ! I Think I Have Signs of Schizophrenia

Help ! ! I Think I Have Signs of Schizophrenia
When literally translated from its Greek roots, the word
"schizophrenia" means "split mind." It is this translation
that has led many people to confuse multiple personality
disorder with schizophrenia. While they are so similar that
scientists used to classify MPD as a form of schizophrenia,
it has since been proven that the two diseases are actually
independent of each other. This article is going to give a
basic rundown of the signs of schizophrenia.

Delusions are very common signs of schizophrenia with
people suffering from signs of schizophrenia. Delusion is
the word that is given to beliefs that the schizophrenic
has that other people do not also have. An example of this
is the belief that somehow their internal thoughts are
being broadcast for the rest of the world to hear.
Delusions can also come in the form of thinking that they
are being hunted down by an outside entity. Sometimes
delusions come in the form of the schizophrenic believing
that he or she has super powers and super abilities that
they do not actually have.

Hallucinations are another of the common signs of
schizophrenia. Hallucinations are typically in the form of
voices heard by the person who is suffering from the
disease. The voices come from outside of the
schizophrenic's head (this is one of the major differences
between multiple personality disorder and schizophrenia).
Sometimes the voices do not have a physical point of
origin. Sometimes the voices come from something that would
not ordinarily be talking and sometimes the voices come
from people that only the schizophrenic can see and hear.
These hallucinations often encourage or influence the
schizophrenic's behaviour. Sometimes the hallucinations
take on other sensations like smells and tastes.

Disorganized thinking and languages are more of the common
signs of schizophrenia. People who suffer from
schizophrenia will sometimes talk in ways that are
difficult for other people to understand. Their thoughts
will sometimes stop following a coherent pattern and their
speech can vary wildly. Schizophrenics will often talk
about several subjects at the same time but will not
connect the subjects to a central theme. They will skip
from subject to subject without warning.

There are a multitude of other signs of schizophrenia.
Schizophrenics are often depressed, prone to mood swings
and have problems connecting with other people. They can be
very withdrawn. Schizophrenics will have a hard time going
about their daily tasks like bathing, getting dressed and
eating. Some other signs of schizophrenia include problems
with movement. There is a form of schizophrenia called
Catatonic schizophrenia. With catatonic schizophrenia, the
patient can be just as likely to stop moving altogether as
they are to experience erratic and uncontrollable movement.

Most of the signs of schizophrenia are also associated with
other mental disorders and because of this, the disease can
be hard to diagnose. The key to getting treatment is to see
a professional as soon as possible if you or someone you
know starts to exhibit signs of schizophrenia.

Tip #1

Schizophrenia is not the same thing as having multiple
personality disorder. In multiple personality disorder a
person has a number of independent identities that all
share one host body. Typically one of the personalities is
dominant and the others exist under the surface. With
Schizophrenia, there could be independent personalities but
the person suffering from the disease believes that these
identities exist outside of him or herself.

Simple Carbs Versus Complex Carbs

Simple Carbs Versus Complex Carbs
We have all seen the ads for no carb and low-carb foods and
diets, but kids and adults need carbohydrates Most foods
contain carbohydrates, which the body breaks down into
simple sugars, which is the major source of energy for the
body. However not all carbohydrates are created equal,
there are 2 major types of carbs, simple and complex.
Simple carbs are the bad carbs and should be avoided.
Complex carbs are actually goo for you and your body needs
them.

Simple carbs are for the most part refined sugars with few
vitamins and nutrients. The body quickly converts this into
glucose which goes into the bloodstream causing an energy
rush. You also get an insulin spike to combat the sugar and
if you ingest too many simple carbs you most likely are on
your way to diabetes. Now not all simple carbs are bad,
there are fruits and vegetables that are okay since they
contain fiber, vitamins and nutrients. You should stay
away from refined processed foods, white bread and pasta,
sugary beverages and the like.

Complex carbs are complex sugars and are packed with
vitamins, nutrients and fibers, They take longer for the
body to digest and do not raise the blood sugar quickly.
They are used as fuel or stored as a useful energy source
in the body. These include vegetables, whole grains and
cereals.

Now you can eat bread and paste but you need to eat whole
wheat/whole grain bread and pasta. Whole grains are what
you want but the food industry is taking advantage and
putting that on labels but it is minimal in the food. It
may say whole grain and then when you read the label it has
enriched/bleached flour in it as a main ingredient,
followed by your grain. So what you are getting is mostly
simple carbs instead of the good complex carbs that you
think you are getting. Always check the label and look at
the main ingredients in cereals and bread. You will also
notice that whole grain is being added to childrens cereal
boxes, but they are full of sugar which is a simple carb.

The ads concerning carbohydrate diets should not be no carb
or low carb but more appropriately the right carbs. Not
all carbs are not bad and your body needs them for energy.
Most of your carbs should come from complex ones, while
the simple ones should come from the ones that your body
can use like orange juice. Your body can use the vitamin C
and if your buy the one with added calcium you get an added
benefit. Make sure you read the labels on items you are
buying to make sure the are whole grain/whole wheat. Stay
away from items that contain enriched and bleached flour.
Choosing the right carbs will put you on the way to a
healthy diet.

Best Weight Loss Is Gradual

Best Weight Loss Is Gradual
Most people who are overweight want to lose. The stigma of
being overweight is often enough of a motivator to want to
be slim. Add the health risks of being overweight to the
stigma of being overweight and you'll find very few heavy
people who are satisfied with their body type. While the
motivation to want to lose weight can be a positive, and in
fact is typically needed for weight loss to occur, being
overly consumed with weight loss can have quite detrimental
consequences.

Humans often look for ways to make tasks more efficient,
and faster. This sort of mindset has been around since
forever, and it applies to weight loss as much as anything
else. People who are overweight usually don't want to be,
and they often want to stop being overweight right now if
not sooner. This strong desire for change can lead to
trying to power through the weight loss process, or to a
willingness to try methods that claim to speed weight loss
up.

Fast weight loss can be seen when stepping on the scale,
but fast weight loss is almost always the result of water
loss. Water can be removed quickly from the body, which is
why dehydration can set in so rapidly without regular water
intake. Water is an absolute requirement for life, and a
regular supply of water is needed for the body to function
normally. Dropping weight in the form of water then is
inviting various forms of health problems, some of which
can be permanent and even fatal.

Losing weight in the form of fat is the ideal in weight
loss, but it's a process. Fat is essentially surplus, and
surplus takes time to build up. Surplus equally takes time
to remove. The fat stored in our bodies took time to make
in other words, and it's not going to go away overnight.
There have been and continue to be various treatments that
claim to speed up the fat elimination process. What these
treatments typically claim to do is affect metabolism, but
they often also affect the heart, usually speeding up its
beat rate. Using any treatment that causes the heart to
perform abnormally is a risky proposition, to say the least.

In the final analysis, the best strategy for weight loss
just may be patience along with a dose of commitment.
Accepting that weight loss is going to take time and effort
is a healthy and realistic perspective to have at the onset
of any weight loss regimen.

Yerba Mate : The Healthier Coffee Alternative to Energize, Detoxify

Yerba Mate : The Healthier Coffee Alternative to Energize, Detoxify
I was introduced to a natural product called yerba mate
(pronounced yerba mah-tae) about two years ago, initially
as a component of diet supplements and appetite
suppressants, and then as a healthier alternative to
coffees and some teas as an energy booster.

It turns out, the more I learned about this fascinating
natural plant, there are many therapeutic uses that can be
used to promote overall health, and it's not just another
recreational energy drink like coffee, and well, energy
drinks!

My interest in using yerba mate as an energy boosting drink
stemmed from the fact that I am very caffeine sensitive,
specifically to the caffeine that is present in America's
favorite caffeinated beverage, coffee.

Don't get me wrong, I'm still known to once in a while
indulge in a latte at Starbucks, but it is much less often
than it used to be after I've found an alternative that not
only contains no calories, but also offers a plethora of
other health benefits with it. That's a win/win to me!

You see, yerba mate is chemically very similar to green
tea, and I'm sure by now you've heard all the studies and
research that have touted the antioxidant and health
benefits of green and white tea.

Well, it's very possible that yerba mate may even be a
little higher in some of these micronutrients and
beneficial natural compounds as well, it's just not as well
publicized or popular, perhaps because of the name and that
it is not promoted as a "tea".

This, combined with the fact that some find the taste of
yerba mate to be undesirable compared with traditional teas
may be the reason why yerba mate hasn't grown gangbusters
in popularity. This can be easily remedied though, by
mixing it with a natural sweetener, or what I do sometimes
is mix it with a little organic peppermint tea, and this
taste is then quite appealing.

Since yerba mate is sold in health food stores, in tea bags
that are ready for steeping, it is also just as convenient
as green tea, it just may be a little harder to find.

Some of the benefits that have been reported for yerba mate
are increases in energy that are sustained and are not
followed by the typical "crash and burn" that are
associated with other caffeinated beverages like coffee,
stronger teas, and energy drinks.

Also, yerba mate is very high in natural antioxidants,
which helps promote healthy skin, healthy heart, and
healthy cell reproduction which can translate into a
decreased cancer risk, since cancer is in effect the
unhealthy reproduction of cells.

Not only that, but some of the other, more speculative
benefits associated with yerba mate as of late are
increased endurance in exercise due to increased oxygen
levels in the blood as well as healthier cell production, a
decrease in hunger or appetite, mood improvement,
acceleration of caloric metabolism, and even increased
focus. Sounds better than the benefits of coffee already,
huh?

I don't know about you, but coffee most definitely does not
result in either sustained energy or a lack of an energy
crash after the surge, so right there, this alternative is
better for me personally and I suspect for thousands of
others who experience the same thing on other energy drinks.

Yerba mate has caught on more in the more organic and
health conscious communities, which I am pleased to say is
spreading to areas of the world that were previously more
uninformed about the benefits of natural alternatives and
healthier choices.

It seems that nowadays everyone is more conscientious of
what they are putting into their bodies, and there is more
of an abundance of health information resources available
to everyone, not just "niche culture" or niche communities.

People are looking for ways to enhance their health and
promote their longevity, as well as decrease their risk of
catastrophic and life quality impairing diseases and health
issues, and yerba mate is a hot drink that fits in very
nicely with that set of values and goals in today's more
health conscious society.

Train Heavy, Lose Fat (part 4)

Train Heavy, Lose Fat (part 4)
Ok, the time has come.....

It's time to get yourself a new programme that will change
the way you train forever.

You ready?

Good.

This is one programme for the entire body and can last
anywhere up to 6 weeks! Once you have the grasp of it, can
switch and change. Ideally, you should be doing this anyway
to keep the body confused rather than letting the body get
used to the movements.

Please make sure you have read Parts 1- 3 so you understand
why you are training this way.

If you understand, you are more likely to stick to the plan.

Always consult your physician before exercise. The author
is neither liable nor responsible for any harm or injury
resulting in the use of this programme.

Warm up: 2 minutes on cardio machine

A1 - Squat and press x 12 reps tempo 1010 (1 second
down, 1 second up with over head press) x 2 sets

A2 - Bent over Barbell Rows x 5 reps tempo 4020 (4
seconds to lower, 2 seconds to lift) x 2 sets

A1 and A2 are to be treated as supersets, meaning that you
perform A1 immediately followed by A2.

Each last rep should feel like you can't do anymore.

Rest for 90 seconds

B1 - Reverse lunges (chest to knee) x 12 reps tempo 2010
x 2 sets

B2 - Incline dumbbell press x 5 tempo 4020 x 2 sets

Rest for 90 seconds

C1 - Single arm dumbbell rows x 12 (on each arm) tempo
2020 x 2 sets

C2 - Barbell squats x 5 reps tempo 4020 x 2 sets

C3 - Crunches x 12 reps tempo 2021 (1 = Squeeze for 1
second at top of movement) x 2 sets

C4 - Romanian Deadlifts x 5 reps tempo 4020 x 2 sets

Rest for 120 seconds

D1 - Pick your favourite piece of cardio equipment and
perform the exercise as seen in part 1.

Repeat this exercise 8 times over.

The whole of this workout should take less than 30 minutes
if you keep to the tempos and rest periods.

Hopefully this should have you leaving the gym like you're
really worked and just think, 36 hours from then you'll
still be burning bodyfat!!!

If you continue to train like this for at least 2 times a
week (3 times a week preferred) for the next 6 weeks you
will see see some great results.

However, this is not a magic workout, to get maximum
results you will need to apply a good nutrition plan.

Holiday Survival For Weightloss Nuts

Holiday Survival For Weightloss Nuts
Holiday survival? Yup, it's that time of year when everyone
is looking for the latest tips and tricks on how to survive
the holiday season without adding another six to ten pounds
before January turns the corner.

It seems like we want to be reminded of the obvious this
time of year. What's the best diet, who is doing what in
Hollywood and which ab machine on TV will turn me into the
next super model? In truth, every year around this time we
tighten up our belts and start looking for answers to why
we don't fit into the same size cloths we did in high
school or before the kids or before that "tragic life
circumstance" that made us gain 15 pounds.

The thing is it's none of the above. We gain weight because
we don't have activity levels that equal our eating levels.

The real deal is that we don't need to find any new tricks
or angles. Keep your cash in your pocket. You can't pay for
results. The basics have been pretty much figured out over
the last 50 years of health and fitness. What we need to do
is get control of ourselves and our emotions. We need to
stop looking to outside sources for reasons to treat our
bodies and therefore our minds better and realize that
temporary satisfaction is just that. Temporary.

In reality, we know what we need to do. It's just that we
don't.

Does that mean no fun during the holidays or that you're
doomed to a life of no chocolate cake or beer? Of course
not, I love both chocolate cake and beer and plan on having
some of both over the holidays. I also plan on keeping
active and picking my spots for decadence. The reason is
because even though these bits of temporary satisfaction
may be fleeting and only last minutes, I want to experience
and enjoy them.

Lets face it, we do what we want, not what we are told. I
happen to be a big fan of "both" when asked if I want a fat
free body or to enjoy treats.

Life is short and should be packed with as much joy and
happiness as possible. If treats make you happy then you
should have some. If you eat treats all the time though,
you get fat. Being fat makes people unhappy in the long
run. So if you look at the big picture, eating treats all
the time is like shooting your happiness in the foot (if
happiness does in fact have a foot).

Eating treats every once, like on a planned treat day, a
family get together or night out on the town and TRULY
enjoying the experience is a 100% win-win in my book!

Beer and cake are not the problem. Beer and cake multiple
times a week and then turning it into "your treat that you
deserve at the end of the day" is the problem.

Our bodies are pretty amazing things. We can do just about
anything to them in small infrequent doses and our bodies
will work hard to minimize the damage and restore balance.
Given frequent whacks over the head with the "nutrition
bomb" stick, things start to fall apart.

So how do all of us fitness groupies survive the holidays
without gaining ten pounds? Plan your fun and stick with
your eating and exercise program the other 98% of the time.
Keep your metabolism fired up by hitting the gym with hard,
intense workouts and keep your eating on track during the
normal times. Then when you go out for a night or two
during the holidays, let it rip. Go crazy and get the bugs
out of your system.

Once you get the bugs out of your system, you're ready to
run your metabolism hot for the next couple of weeks. No
regrets but some great experiences and a ton of fun. Did I
mention you'll still have that six pack when you book your
trip for Mexico?

O.K. fine. Just for the sake of keeping with personal
trainer holiday tradition, here are my tips to keep the
pounds off during the holiday season:

1. Do high intensity interval training for your cardio.

2. Think less about the length of your workout and more
about the intensity.

3. If it comes prepared and in a package, it belongs on
your "treat" list.

4. Spend more time lifting iron than you do pedaling and
jogging.

5. Simple is good. The complexity of a workout has no
bearing on the results it will produce.

6. Eat smaller meals but do it more often.

7. Do not cut fat out of your diet and then replace it with
carbohydrates.

8. When eating out, get full on protein before you look at
anything else.

9. When it's time to have fun, don't hold back.

10. When it's time to work, don't hold back and don't
compromise when others want to steer you down a different
path.

Quick Weight Loss - The Wrong Focus If You Want To Lose Weight

Quick Weight Loss - The Wrong Focus If You Want To Lose Weight
Human beings are amazing creatures. We can have the
blueprint to success given to us, and because we don't
trust ourselves will go looking for something better - even
if it doesn't exist. This is especially true of people
trying to lose weight. This is readily evident when ask
someone who is overweight, "how long did it take you to put
on that weight?" Usually they'll just look at you funnily,
wondering what you're trying to get at. If you are looking
to lose weight, think about this question. What's the
answer for you? It's probably a number of years - isn't it?

So, think about this, if it takes a number of years to put
on that weight, then why should you expect to lose it all
in a few days?

The reason I say that is because if you have a look at what
is selling most in the weight loss industry, and the
products that are sold, a lot of them try and sell you
based on promises of very quick weight loss. The only
reason the clever companies are playing this angle is
because it is what people demand.

Unfortunately it's the desire for quick weight loss that is
often at the heart of the 'yo-yo' dieter syndrome, where
you don't end up losing any weight at all.

Let's say you find a crash diet that is all the rage.
Everyone on it seems to be losing weight. So you think, 'I
should give this a go, it'll work for me too.' So off you
go, changing your eating habits completely. All you have is
food from a very small strict range. The worst thing is,
because you've made such a drastic change from your long
term habits, it gets harder to keep up, the longer you try
to stick to the diet. You start to fight with yourself
internally. Soon enough its not just about the food. You
start to feel that your freedom is being taken away from
you by this diet, and you have massive urges and cravings
to break free.

You and I both know what happens next, you eventually get
to the point where you say, 'A small slice of pizza is not
going to hurt, I've been very good, and I'll be back on
this diet immediately after.' So you go and have that
slice of pizza.

But it doesn't stop there does it.

After you have one piece of that pizza, you think, 'Awwww,
another piece isn't going to hurt anyone.' Then the flood
gates open.

You have released your cravings and then you scour the
house for every piece of junk food you've been keeping from
yourself. Its all going down. And before you know it,
you're back to square one.

What was the problem then? The problem was when we decided
to go on the diet, it was a temporary adjustment, it was
never made with an intention of making this a habit.

Seriously, would any of the diets that are on the market
even exist if people thought about this before they decided
to start that diet? The facts are that it took long term
habits to put that weight on your body. Right there, your
own body has given you the exact blueprint of how to lose
it.

You have to form new habits, but this time, these habits
have to allow you to reach and maintain your ideal weight.
Its not rocket science, no matter what the latest gadget or
miracle cure is promising. It comes down to you. If you
want to use one of the latest products in the market, fine,
use it. Just don't fall for the idea that you're going to
lose weight on a permanent basis because of the gadget. Use
the gadget to form lifestyle habits that not only help you
to lose weight, but keep the weight off. That way you boost
your self esteem while you lose the weight, cause you did
it, not some product or service. That's the secret to long
lasting weight loss.

Lead in Your Lipstick

Lead in Your Lipstick
Recently I received the following message. "LIPSTICKS
CONTAIN LEAD, CONSUMER GROUP SAYS" was the headline.

I don't know whether you know it or not, but Mercury and
Lead cause a wide range of health challenges, from
migraines and brain fog to nerve damage resulting in
Alzheimers and MS.

As research continues, you are going to discover that many
people's illnesses start with heavy metal poisoning and
most don't even know it is going on until it has taken hold.

If you think there are safe levels of lead and Mercury -
you are wrong! The medicos will have us believe that small
amounts are harmless. This is because it takes time for the
long term effects to take hold and our health system is
interested in symptoms that occur as soon as you are
exposed.

I know it sounds ridiculous, but it is true. Very few
people think of the long term these days. Health challenges
are not an accident. They are usually the result of many
years of neglect.

Dr Stephen Gale of the University of Sydney in 2005, had
this to say about safe levels of lead. "Lead is toxic even
at low concentrations. This makes it one of the most
insidious of all environmental hazards and many researchers
have claimed that there is no level below which exposure is
harmless".

It has been pretty shocking to read not only of lead in
lipstick but in some toys from companies such as Mattel! It
is not enough to have exposure to the permanent gasoline
lead haze that surrounds all of us. Now we have to deal
with Chinese made toys.

I have just done some more research into heavy metals and
found that Mercury contamination amongst other things,
causes brain fog and vision problems. Now I know I have
been using an activated liquid zeolite product for over a
year, although inconsistently of late. So I decided to do a
urine test. Much to my surprise I found Mercury in my
system which fits with the symptoms I have had for years!

I am finally going to have my amalgums removed, as I am
sure that is where the Mercury is coming from. The Zeolite
really makes a difference when you are doing this, stopping
further contamination.

So, the point is, everyone is exposed to lead and Mercury
in differing amounts. It would be a good idea for everyone
to remove these toxic substances. Adding activated liquid
zeolite to your detox regime, ensures heavy metals
including Mercury and Lead are safely removed from the
body, minimising the possibility of recontamination.

In addition to the peace of mind of reducing levels of
these dangerous toxins we are all exposed to, you can feel
more energised in a few days or weeks. Better still, you
can extend your life and have better sporting ability
simply by the addition of a few Cellular Liquid Zeolite
drop each day.

John Gaydon started researching Zeolite because he believes
we are under attack from hidden forces we do not fully
understand. Technology has a way of solving its own issues,
and research is mounting that activated liquid Zeolite can
really assist. For more articles by John go to

What is Gerd?

What is Gerd?
Gerd or Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease affects millions of
people each year. This catch-all term encompasses a wide
array of complaints ranging from "acid stomach", belching,
nausea, bloating, distention, heartburn, hoarseness,
esophagitis, gastritis, acid reflux, and asthma-like
symptoms.

If you look in a medical encyclopedia that is only a few
years old you will not find the word GERD or the term
"Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease". However you can break
the phrase up into separate words and find the definition
for each.

GASTROESOPHAGEAL - Pertaining to the stomach or the
esophagus.

REFLUX - A backward flow; regurgitation.

DISEASE - Any interruption of the normal function of any
body organ, part, or system that presents an abnormal state.

In other words you have an abnormal function of the stomach
or esophagus that is causing reflux.

Indigestion and belching would be considered an abnormal
function of the stomach and can make a person feel
out-of-sorts or not feeling so well for a short time. If a
condition is only temporary how can the medical community
label it as a disease? The truth of the matter is, it is
not a disease. It is a condition that can be corrected once
you find the root cause.

Belching is a natural function of the human body and it
happens to every person on the planet without exception.
This is also know as reflux!

The stomach is approximately 10 to 12 inches long and
approximately 5 inches wide. It holds between 2 and 3 pints
of liquid and when food or drink enter our stomach it
displaces the liquid contents and the level of liquid
rises which increases stomach pressure.

The increased stomach pressure is now exerting more
pressure on the Lower Esophageal Sphincter valve. This
increase in pressure will force the Lower Esophageal
Sphincter valve open and allow the reflux of acidic stomach
gases to enter the esophagus. If you feel pain or a burning
sensation in the chest cavity when these gases enter the
esophagus it is an indication that you have some esophageal
damage. This damage is usually in the form of tiny cuts or
lesions to the delicate cells of the esophagus, however it
can be corrected within 3 or 4 days by eliminating some
foods that are causing the problem.

The esophagus or feeding tube is approximately 10 inches
long and about 1inch wide and tends to expand when these
stomach gases reflux into it. This will cause chest
pressure and can even radiate to your left arm or your
back. When the acidic stomach gases are present in your
esophagus you might also experience a feeling of a lump in
your throat near the Adam's apple. This is referred to as
Globus Sensation and is quickly relieved once the gases
overcome the Upper Esophageal Sphincter and you belch.

To find the root cause of these problems you need to know
why your stomach has increased pressure that is causing the
reflux. Although there are many things that can cause an
increase in stomach pressure the most common one is a
person's pH balance is too acidic. The symptoms of being
too acidic are belching, bloating and flatulence more than
normal. Copyright 2006-2007
