Candida and Alkalizing

Candida and Alkalizing
I was around 34 and had given birth to our son, our second
child, only eight months earlier. My daughter was just
over 3 and extremely energetic. We had moved house when I
was eight months pregnant to a property just outside of our
city. We only had one car which my husband drove to work
most days. So here I was with two little children on a
large property in the middle of no-where and at that time
had not been able to meet many new friends in the area.

I thought I was becoming depressed. I felt very irritable,
something which was not like my normal self. Each morning
I would get myself out of bed feeling like I was an old
woman. My joints ached all over my body. My fingers were
swollen and it hurt when I brushed my hair.

My body seemed to feel very sensitive. I cried easily and
felt exhausted all the time. All I wanted to do was sleep
and not get out of bed. And when I did drag myself out I
would start crying.

Eventually I decided that I needed some help. I never
liked visiting the doctor but could not think of what else
to do. At that time I wanted a quick fix. I made an
appointment and dropped my daughter at kindy and took my
little son and went to visit the local, so called, doctor.
I left his office in tears. He told me I was a neurotic
housewife and that I would get over it.

I knew I wasn't the person the doctor accused me of, and
that there must have been a reason why I was feeling so
bad. In desperation I looked in the yellow pages and
decided to go and see a naturopath. I chose one close to
home but had to wait two weeks before I could get into see
her. I had never consulted an alternative practitioner
before although I was certainly not against the idea, just
that I had never been sick to have that need.

How relieved I was when I sat in front of this new person
and virtually without any prompting from me she told me
what my symptoms were and that there was a name for how I
was feeling. I had a severe case of "Candida". From
memory I think I was on a scale of 9/10 - far too high. I
left my new practitioner again in tears. But this time
they were tears of relief.

I was determined to do everything she said. It was the
start of a six week strict diet plan. No bread, milk,
cheese, yogurt, alcohol, coffee, sweets of any kind,
certain fruits and also some vegetables. Wow, so what
would I eat?

I also had to cook for my husband and children. My family
actually went on the recommended diet with me, not that my
children knew. I steamed veggies, had lots of raw food and
drank water and herbal tea. I baked with buckwheat and
made pancakes and cakes using all sorts of interesting
gluten-free ingredients.

For a person who does not like cooking I actually had to
spend a lot of time in the kitchen. You see I wanted
desperately to get better.

After four weeks I went back to see my new naturopath and
she said the moment I walked in the door that my skin was
glowing with health. I had also lost quite a bit of weight.
That worried me a little as I did not need to lose any
weight. But I felt fantastic.

My energy increased and the aching joints and other
irritations throughout my body started to disappear. I
continued the diet and after six weeks I gradually
introduced certain foods. 17 years later and I still watch
my diet.

So what triggered my Candida? They say stress can be a
cause. Well I suppose I had had my fair share of stress
before the birth of my son. With my first child I had a
wonderful healthy pregnancy. But with my second I was
diagnosed with an itchy disease called POLYMORPHIC
ERUPTION. Unfortunately it does not go away until after
the baby is born and you are unable to take any medication
for it.

This itchiness developed in my seventh month and by the
eighth month (the same time that we had to move house) I
was scratching so much that I would make my hands and feet
bleed. A week before my son was due the medical staff
decided to take me into hospital as I was becoming
distressed and not sleeping. They were worried about the
baby.

After my son's birth, the itchiness went away. However, I
did not recuperate as quickly as I had hoped, and developed
a bad infection from the cesarean birth and remained in
hospital longer than I wanted to. I wanted to go home to
my daughter and husband.

So I suppose I would have had a great deal of stress going
through my body and this could well have led to my Candida.
Dr Robert Young (The PhMiracle) says that stress
contributes to an acidifying condition. A diet of acidic
foods and beverages combined with stress are the exact
conditions that allow Candida to get out of control.

In August of 2006 my partner and I attended a Health
Retreat for a general 10 day juice detox. My partner had
been here many times before and this was my second visit.

I was feeling great and well into the detox but on the
fifth day the retreat introduced some fruit into our diet.
Within a matter of hours I could feel the sensation of
Candida going through my body.

I was extremely annoyed because I had been feeling so well
and was ready for a Mountain climb the next day (a
challenging ritual that occurred on every program). That
night I felt the pain and tiredness and could not surface
for the challenging climb.

Instead I went to the resident naturopath explained to him
that I thought I had Candida. He did a quick blood test
which showed a positive diagnosis.

We narrowed it down to the fact that I had eaten
strawberries for lunch and the sugar content did not agree
with my detoxing body. My partner asked if he could be
tested as well and he was also diagnosed with a high level
of Candida in his body.

His symptoms were a constant and irritating cough, nail
fungus, insomnia and depression. We asked why they did not
test all guests when they first arrived at the retreat,
only to be told that it would be an additional price of
$35. It seemed a ridiculous comment given that the average
fee was over $3,000 per 10 day program.

The result of our experience was that we led an avalanche
of guests asking for Candida tests with most of them
testing positive. In a subsequent newsletter the founder of
the retreat published an article on Candida. Hopefully the
retreat staff are now more aware of the issue and Candida
is treated with suspicion for all guests.

One young woman I observed was doing a double or 20 day
program and she over-heard me speaking to someone else
about my own experience. She asked about what was Candida
and said that she also now felt absolutely terrible. I
felt quite sad for the young woman because she had spent
thousands of dollars on her double program and now was only
a few days from going home.

We now realize that my partner has suffered from Candida
for quite some time. His toe nails were quite dark with
fungus. As a result of changing diet to be virtually sugar
free and very low carbohydrate, detoxifying and drinking
lots of good alkalized/ionized water, they have now cleared.

I know that most bodies carry Candida in a morph state, but
I believe if more of us were aware of it, we would be
better able to take care of it.

So here's what do I do?

1. I drink at least three litres of alkaline water per day.

2. I hardly ever have bread, biscuits, cakes or
chocolate. A few weeks ago my body craved for some
chocolate. I paid for it the next day.

3. I eat a lot of different raw alkaline vegetables which
my partner makes up as a salad.

4. I generally eat fish.

5. When we have cooked food we use Virgin Coconut Oil.
(VCO is anti-fungal, anti-viral, anti-bacterial,
antiprotozoan). It is approximately 50% lauric acid, a
similar quality to human breast milk.

6. Regular exercise

7. I also take 1tsp of Zeolite powder in water - great
detoxing agent.

Common Sense Can Prevent a Bicycle Crash

Common Sense Can Prevent a Bicycle Crash
Annually, about half a million bicycle related injuries
occur. In addition, according to the National Highway
Traffic Safety Administration, a bicyclist is killed
approximately every six hours. However, most bicycle
crashes are predictable and preventable by using proper
precautions on the part of both the bicyclists and
motorists.

Types of Bicycle Crashes

Falls and Collisions

Over 50 percent of bike crashes are the result of falls.
Falls commonly occur either when the front wheel suddenly
stops moving or when the rear wheel slides out. The front
wheel can stop if it falls into a road defect, such as a
crack or drain grate, or if the front brakes are applied
very hard. Rear wheels can skid out when turning on gravel,
sand, ice, metal surfaces, or any slippery surface.

After falls, the most frequent type of bike accidents are
collisions with a stationary object, such as trees. Falls
and collisions with fixed objects account for about 75 to
80 percent of all bicycle crashes.

Car-Bicycle Crashes

Car-bike crashes account for between about ten to 15
percent of bicycle accidents but result in the largest
number of fatalities. Most of these accidents occur when
either the bicyclist or the motorist is turning or crossing
at an intersection or driveway. Other car-bike crashes
occur when the bicyclist is not obeying traffic laws and is
cycling on the wrong side of the road or running red lights.

Bicycle Crash Injuries

Injuries from bicycle crashes are most often to the limbs,
and include fractures, abrasions, and lacerations.
Fractures account for about 25 percent of bike crash
injuries, and facial injuries account for about one third
of injuries. The most severe and disabling injuries are
brain injuries, which can result in a permanent disability.
Head injuries are also more likely to be fatal.

What To Do When In a Bike-Car Crash

To the extent possible and practical to avoid further
accidents or injuries after a bicycle crash, do the
following:

* Do not move if you are seriously injured. Wait for
medical help.

* Accept medical help, even if you do not feel severely
injured.

* Wait for the police so an accident report can be filed
with statements from witnesses, and the at-fault driver,
and the crash scene investigated.

* Leave damaged property and equipment as it was until
police arrive.

* Contact a personal injury lawyer who understands
bicycling.

Bicycle Safety and Crash Prevention

Not surprisingly, helmets can protect again head injuries -
both brain injuries and upper facial injuries. Studies show
that about 75 percent of bicyclists who were severely brain
injured were not wearing helmets. To provide proper
protection, helmets must be fitted correctly.

Although helmets can protect against head injury, they do
not protect from getting hit by cars! To help prevent
personal injury, bicyclists must use common sense and
remain alert when cycling on roads to avoid crashes with
cars. Although drivers should be more attentive to the
presence of bicyclists, the odds of injury favor the
bicyclist. This is why it is so important to follow some
basic common sense prevention guidelines which include:

* Follow the law - ride on the right side of road; stop at
stop signs and red lights; use a headlight at night (also
beneficial in the day).

* Avoid stopping in the blind spot of a car at a red light.
You can be hit if it turns right and you go straight.

* Use a bell or horn to signal or alert drivers of your
presence.

* Use a headlight and a rear light, especially at night.

* Use a mirror to glance at traffic behind, especially when
approaching intersections.

* Be attentive and alert to the cars. Watch for left
turning cars crossing in front that may not see you, and
pay attention to parked cars for which a door may open.

* Slow down so you can stop quickly if necessary.

* Avoid riding on sidewalks.

* Avoid busy streets, especially as a novice rider.

If you have been injured in a bike crash, you may be
eligible for compensation. Contact an experienced bike
accident attorney for more information on a potential bike
injury claim.

Busy Moms Burn More Fat with Breakfast!

Busy Moms Burn More Fat with Breakfast!
Breakfast is easily the most overlooked solution than all
other fat burning tips combined.

Q: Breakfast.

I always eat breakfast but often don't get to it until
about an hour or sometimes two (if I'm up early) after I
get up. Is this OK or do I have to eat earlier than this?
(I'm busy during the week getting the kids ready and off to
school). What's the maximum amount of time I can go from
waking to eating brekky?

A: Hooray!

You are eating the most important meal of the day! Many
Busy Moms tend to skip this meal for a variety of reasons.
However, doing so will only work against your body's
ability to lose fat.

Skipping breakfast will only send the message to your body
that you're starving - you haven't had food in the last 6-8
hours. This leads your body to SLOW your metabolism for
survival purposes. You essentially are choosing to start
your day in fat storage mode.

PLUS - if you do not start your day with a supportive
breakfast, it is only natural that by the time lunch rolls
around - You are STARVING.

The best of intentions cannot overcome the cravings that
accompany this feeling. Sure, you may start off your "lunch
time" snack or meal with something you consider to be quite
healthy. Yet, those nagging cravings do not go away and you
are compelled to eat more.

To make matters worse, skipping breakfast also leads to
eating more later in the day - a big "dinner". Eating more
calories during the last meal of the day, when your
metabolism is naturally slower during the second half of
the day and slower because breakfast was skipped leads your
body to store those calories as fat.

In fact, studies show that people who skip breakfast and
eat fewer times during the day tend to be heavier than
people who eat a healthy breakfast and eat four or five
times a day. If you skip meals, you tend to feel hungrier
later on and you will eat more than you normally would.

To get the Best Benefits of Breakfast - yes, eating within
an hour of waking is best. Breakfast will provide you with
the energy you need to get through your day. The more
energy you have, the more active you'll be and the more
active you are, the more calories you burn.

Favorite Busy Mom Breakfast: Cereal is a MUST. It's
convenient, easy to prepare, easy to eat and full of
nutrients - No..."Whole Grain Lucky Charm" does not fall
into this category.

Choose cereals carefully based on the information on the
food label.

Top Breakfast Choices have:

~ 5 grams of Fiber or more
~ 8 grams of Sugar or LESS
~ Sugar is not listed as one of the first 4-5 ingredients.

Try Tyrosine As An Alternative Anti-Depressant

Try Tyrosine As An Alternative Anti-Depressant
Tyrosine is one of the lesser known amino acids, although
it was identified way back in the nineteenth century, and
indeed is described as one of those which are
non-essential. Neither of these facts implies, however,
that it is in any way unimportant. Tyrosine is one of the
twenty or so separate amino acids found in the mammalian
body; some of which are known as non-essential because they
can be manufactured by the body, and need not therefore be
consumed in the daily diet.

Ten amino acids, however, cannot be synthesised by the
body, and must be obtained from food. Unsurprisingly
perhaps, it is animal protein foods such as meat, fish and
dairy produce which are the richest source, and they are
accordingly known as first class proteins because they
contain all of the essential amino acids.

The significance of both essential and non-essential amino
acids, however, is that they form the proteins which make
up the bulk of the dry tissue of the human body; most
obviously the muscles. But the importance of protein goes
way beyond this. The different proteins in the body also
form the many enzymes which control its essential
biochemical processes, including the secretion of vital
hormones.

Tyrosine is formed in the body from the essential amino
acid, phenylalanine, and in addition to its general role in
the formation of proteins, appears to have a number of more
specific functions.

Tyrosine appears to be directly involved in maintaining
good supplies of the neurotransmitter hormones, adrenalin
and noradrenalin, which are amongst the body's principal
means of combatting stress, and its function within the
brain have also led many nutritional practitioners to
regard the amino acid as a powerful natural anti-depressant.

Some therapists report excellent results from the use of
doses of up to 1,000 mg a day of tyrosine in treating even
sufferers from the profound, clinical, depression
characterised by apathy, inactivity, social withdrawal and
even despair. An alleviation of even such extreme symptoms
has been observed within as little as a week when patients
have been treated with between 600 mg and 2,000 mg a day.
The form of tyrosine known as acetyl L-tyrosine, however,
appears to work more directly on the brain and doses of a
few hundred mg per day of this compound may be sufficient.

In addition to cases of incapacitating clinical depression,
tyrosine has also been found useful as a short term
psychological tonic for times when an individual nay be
suffering from particular stress, leading to reduced energy
levels, confused thought or lowered mood. To this extent,
tyrosine is also regarded by some as similar to an
adaptogen, for example ginseng, in its general tonic effect.

In its effects on brain chemistry, tyrosine has also proved
useful in alleviating conditions as diverse as Attention
Deficit Disorder (ATD) and the symptoms arising from
withdrawal from cocaine addiction. Tyrosine is also known
to simulate the production of growth hormone and to
stimulate the thyroid gland. Supplementation may therefore
be useful in some cases of an underactive thyroid and the
problems that this may cause.

In view of all the above, although it is not strictly
necessary to obtain tyrosine from the daily diet, it does
not follow that you should not seek to obtain as rich a
supply as possible. If you're enjoying normal health,
particularly mental and emotional health, you probably
don't need to take supplements. But in view of the many
benefits of tyrosine it is well worth ensuring that you
take in a good dietary supply. This can only help with the
stability of your moods, mental energy and focus.

The best foods for this purpose, of course, are the protein
foods, whether vegetable or animal; in particular soy
products, nuts, seeds, dairy produce, avocados, poultry and
fish.

But if supplements are required at times of particular
stress or increased energy requirement; tyrosine, like
other single amino acids, is best taken on an empty stomach
to ensure maximum absorption. As with other single amino
supplements, however, these should not be taken in this way
in the long term as this may risk the creation of
nutritional imbalances. Like all other nutrients in the
body, tyrosine can only do its work properly if the body is
fully nourished in all other respects. When supplementing
with tyrosine, however, it appears particularly important
to ensure that generous supplies of vitamins B6 and C are
present.

Since these vitamins also function holistically, this is as
always best achieved by taking comprehensive multi-vitamin
and multi-mineral supplements.

There appear to be no known problems of tyrosine toxicity
at the dosages discussed in this article, but supplements
at higher dose require medical supervision because there
are contraindications for those suffering from high blood
pressure or taking medication for migraine, Parkinson's
disease, or being treated for certain cancers.

Considering Premature Ejaculation

Considering Premature Ejaculation
One of the more sensitive areas of discussion for men is
typically that of sexual performance. The male has the
stereotypical reputation for physical dominance and
control, and this sort of expectation can easily transfer
to matters of sexual intimacy. It's sometimes, and perhaps
often, believed and expected that the male should have the
capacity to sexually satisfy his partner most if not all of
the time. Where a male is not able to regularly satisfy his
partner, a problem of some sort is often presumed.

The problem most often defined in a male that relates to
sexual functioning is premature ejaculation. Though
premature ejaculation is not uncommon terminology, the
specific definition of what premature ejaculation is can be
difficult to pin down. What may be best accepted as the
definition of premature ejaculation is the belief by the
male and possibly his partner that the male's ejaculatory
control is insufficient. This belief in itself certainly
doesn't prove that a male has a particular poor ejaculatory
response in comparison to other males, but it does indicate
that sexual performance is a problem from that male's
perspective, which is reason enough to at least give the
situation consideration.

Males are sometimes curious about whether there's a
specific baseline with respect to ejaculation times during
intercourse. In other words, what's the average time that
males typically orgasm during intercourse. The answer to
that question may be impossible to ever answer with
complete certainty, but there have been studies that
indicate males delay orgasm following sexual penetration
for six and a half minutes on average. Six and half minutes
may or may not seem like a great deal of time, but it gives
some indication of how realistic sexual performance
expectations actually are. It should be noted that the six
and a half minute range is not an absolute standard.

In the event that a male does not make it to the six and a
half minute point prior to orgasm, it is not some form of
concrete evidence that a sexual dysfunction exists. A
better standard to use, again, may be the male's own
perception that his sexual functioning is abnormal. While a
male by himself can certainly come to the conclusion that
he ejaculates too soon, getting input from a regular
intimate partner would provide valuable insight into
whether there's actually a problem. It's entirely possible
that the male's partner may not perceive any problem with
sexual functioning at all, and that the difficulty only
lies in the male's self-perception.

In the event that an issue with premature ejaculation is
suspected, there are a number of options available to treat
the problem. Premature ejaculation is not especially
uncommon, and usually responds well able to treatment.

Thought Experiment Helps Women in Menopause with Bio-identical Hormone Replacement

Thought Experiment Helps Women in Menopause with Bio-identical Hormone Replacement
Today there is much confusion among women and doctors about
hormone therapy for women in menopause. There are as many
as two million women in the U.S. who use customized
hormones for menopause symptoms.

While writing a book for women in the life stage of aging,
one California-based reseacher and writer asked an
important question. T.S. Wiley asked,"If hormone
replacement was made of real bio-identical hormones and
dosed to mimic the ups and downs of the hormone blood
levels in a normal menstrual cycle in a 20 year-old woman,
would all of the symptoms and disease states of aging
decline or even, disappear?"

To her surprise, and also many others, it just might be
that it was the rhythm that was always missing from other
regimens.

Today, tens of thousands of women have discovered her
Protocol. Their libido is improved, and they look and feel
much better. But there are still many women who are still
confused about hormones, in the wake of the National
Institutes of Health (NIH) Women's Health Initiative (WHI).
Getting hormones is difficult because doctors became leery.
Getting legitimate insurance-covered physicians to
prescribe even bio-identical hormone molecules has, for the
last twenty-years or so, also been a challenge.

That can't be said for any statically dosed form of BHRT.
What can be said, though, is that the WHI has proven that
synthetic hormones are dangerous. The common assumption
among women using bio-identical regimens is that they are
doing something that is safe or safer. But it is important
to keep in mind that it could have been the synthetics that
may have caused harm because of the way they were
statically dosed not just because they weren't
bio-identical hormone molecules.

However, Wiley's new delivery system consists of
bio-identical estradiol and progesterone in a topical cream
preparation dosed to mimic the natural hormones produced by
a body that is around 20 years-old. The creams and their
amounts vary throughout the 28 day cycle to mimic the
hormone levels of youth when heart disease and stroke, Type
II diabetes, cancer and Alzheimer's disease weren't
immediate concerns.

"I do not think I would be here today if I did not discover
this new protocol. I was severely depressed and went
everywhere for help and tried everything and all of my
physical symptoms of bleeding for over one year just would
not stop. And I felt just like the woman described in
Suzanne Somers' book going from one doctor to another and
getting nowhere with no help. I was ready to commit
suicide. If I could take anything on a desert island other
than my dog, it would only be my Wiley Protocol hormone
creams," said Marla Mintz.

This is the only BHRT that has been developed under the
scrutiny of a practicing Oncologist. Over the last three
years a preponderance of anecdotal evidence has been
gathered in over a thousand women ages nineteen to ninety
that show evidence that this protocol is safe and effective.
