Buying Organic: The Right Choice at the Right Time

There are an increasing number of consumers becoming
concerned about the chemical ingredients found in their
products. The demand for organic products is growing
because more people are choosing a healthier lifestyle.
Today, it is becoming much easier to include organics in
everyday life.

A Toxic Environment

Chemicals found in manufactured foods, personal care
products, industrial agriculture foods, and chemically
treated water, have been linked to many health problems.
Chemical ingestion, inhalation, and absorption into the
body have shown to increase birth defects, rates of cancer,
neurological conditions, and behavioral and developmental
problems in children.

New evidence also shows pesticides in a woman's bloodstream
can be passed to a fetus in the womb. Most of these toxic
chemicals are so cheap that they are used in very high
concentrations in many personal care products. Industrial
agriculture use excessive amounts of water, power, and
industrial chemicals which has increased soil, water, and
atmosphere contamination. Herbicides, insecticides,
fertilizers, and animal waste are accumulating in ground
and surface waters.

Benefits of Buying Organic

Eating an organic diet decreases chemical and pesticide
exposure. Organic farming eliminates the use of chemical
additives and the produce is high in nutrients, low in
nitrates, and free of artificial preservatives. The role of
organic agriculture, whether in farming, processing,
distribution, or consumption, is to sustain and enhance the
health of ecosystems and all of its creatures. Organic
based ingredients contain more vitamins, nutrients and
cancer-fighting antioxidants than non-organic ingredients.
Using organic products such as skin care products can help
you take better care of your skin.

The Salt Factor

Table salt is different from salt from natural sources such
as the ancient Himalayan salt mines. Table salt has been
processed to remove most of the natural elements. Grocery
store salt consists of mostly chemical sodium chloride. If
the sodium chloride is too high, re-crystallization of the
table salt takes place. It poisons the system because those
substances cannot be eliminated. A natural salt like
Himalayan sea salt can provide good health. It also
eliminates from your body so there is no toxic build up.
Natural Himalayan sea salt contains up to 84 natural
minerals.

Great Things Come In Small Batches

Handmade organic products are carefully made with the body
and environment in mind. Handmade products have no
artificial ingredients and unnecessary chemicals normally
used to produce colour, fragrance, and texture. When using
these products every day in your bath or shower, you
receive the benefit of naturally helping to protect
yourself from disease. Natural anti-bacterial action is
gentler and more holistic than chemical anti-bacterial
action. A person can be exposed to many bacterial
infections and viruses. Hand made organics help to protect
the body naturally. There many benefits when using organic
body care products. It leaves the body feeling clean and
soft. They contain natural antibacterial, antiviral, and
antifungal properties. As well, they are free of chemicals,
petroleum-based products, and artificial fragrances.

Economic Benefits

By complying with social and environmental standards, fair
trade organizations such as the 100% natural cottage
industry crafters, further an equitable and sustainable
structure of production and trade that benefits people and
their communities. They support living wages and safe and
healthy conditions for workers. Fair Trade Organizations
link low-income producers with consumer markets as well as
educating the public about the importance of purchasing
fairly traded products. They provide resources and
networking opportunities for its members. As well, members
are screened for their full commitment to fair trade.

Building a Brighter Future

By choosing organic products, you are supporting a
sustainable, chemical free world and providing a healthier
and cleaner planet for our children.

Why Karate Doesn’t Work

There has been an interesting development in the martial
arts in the late 20th Century and into the 21st. Martial
arts have evolved and become much more true to life than
ever. There was a time when the karate man was looked upon
with respect and feared. A time when, if someone said they
were a black belt, it caused others to be impressed. You
can say that karate has become outdated. But what has
really happened is that karate has become exposed.

If you are one of those people who like to question things
then maybe this thought has gone through your mind. Why are
there so many different martial arts systems in the world.
We all have two arms and two legs don't we? So why all the
different systems of self defense? I know that systems were
usually born out of a need such as one group of people
having to fight another group who were better armed. So
they developed systems to fight those men who used certain
weapons a certain way. But then these same people showed
others their incomplete system and sold it as unabridged.

So let's look at what we have in the world without going
into a deep history lesson. You basically have karate and
ju-jitsu from Okinawa and Japan. You have a multitude of
kung fu systems from China. You have Tae Kwon Do and a few
others like Tang Soo Do from Korea; boxing and wrestling
from Europe of course. Of these there is every variation
under the sun. You name it and someone has tried to develop
it into a fighting system. But what do we really have.
Remember that all we really have is three men out there. It
all boils down to those three. You have boxers or people
who fight predominantly with their hands, kickers who like
to use kicks as their main weapon and grapplers who like to
take people to the ground and finish them there. That's
really it. Just those three. Now there are people who are
good at one, two or even three of those methods. Those guys
are now known as mixed martial artists.

Someone once asked, what is truth? I think we can ask that
same question here. I mean how can the average guy deal
with someone who is skilled in one or even three of the
main fighting methods? You know, the boxer, the kicker and
the grappler. If the guy is good at all three methods then
do I have to be good at all three methods, too? Do I have
to fight in the same manner? I know karate won't do the
job. Definitely Tae Kwon Do will not do. How about adding a
self defense class or two. Will that help? I don't think
so. What about kung fu and all the various animal styles?
No. You can pretend to be an animal but that won't beat the
skilled boxer, kicker, grappler. So how do we deal with
this guy. It can't be using his own methods. You can't box
a boxer and expect to win if he's really good at what he
does. Let's just assume this guy is a really good mixed
martial artist who happens to be a thug and wants to rob
and maybe even kill you. What's the answer if you don't
have a weapon at hand?

The answer is simple yet complex. In order to effectively
deal with a skilled thug you must first put away all your
preconceived ideas about what real combat is. Forget the
ring. Forget what you see on TV. How can an older man; say
in his forties, deal with one or more, younger, stronger
and faster opponents. It will not be by speed and power. If
he is to win; and he must, he has to do something all
together different. Yes the older man is a master of
self-defense. But his method is extremely sophisticated. He
relies on a core group of concepts rather than techniques.
Not that he doesn't use techniques but everything he does
is founded in his core concepts. He also has the amazing
ability to fight in a very apropos manner because he is
guided by highly developed contact reflexes. In other
words, if he is touched by an aggressor, the older man
instantly knows all about him and deals with him in proper
time with super preparatory application. That means he
stops the first attack and all future attacks immediately.
He also uses skeletal alignment to enhance his power. He is
able to hit much harder than his younger counterparts who
use muscle to deliver their blows. The skilled older man
delivers his strikes with his bones which feels like being
hit with the end of an iron rod.

The answer is to become one with the opponent. No
struggling or resisting but moving according to "the now".
To be able to discharge a highly potent "motion martial
art". Not static or choppy, muscular movements but relaxed
yet aligned motions that can deal with an attack as if it
were just a crude language. Yes, the answer is to have a
highly developed and fluent martial language as a complete
and elaborate communication. Yes, self defense can be like
this. The only martial art I know that achieves this
elevated dexterity is Wing Chun.

If a person truly dedicates him or herself to only doing
and developing a system that is fit for the 21st Century
real world self defense, then he must use external defenses
guided by internal faculty. A system that encompasses the
most effective techniques a person can deliver with the
most advanced internal concepts one can make manifest. Now
I mentioned Wing Chun earlier but not every Wing Chun
teacher has developed in this manner or to this level. It
is rare to find people who have this high level skill. But
they are out there.

If you really want to get involved with a martial art and
want to find verity, then take a few steps back. Get back
far enough away from what is traditionally known and
taught. Take an honest look around and see if the martial
art before you justifies itself intellectually. Ask the
hard questions. Is it good against the three fighters in
the world? Can it be done effortlessly? What makes the most
sense? Study and do research before you join a school. I
can tell you right now, forget karate and Tae Kwon Do
unless you just want to do a sport. Don't be too reverent
with any martial art system. Be honest with yourself and
hopefully you'll find a good teacher.

Warning: It's Time to Get Serious About Boundaries

I have two dogs. Punky is a 9-year-old lab mix and Rascal
is a 1-year-old Jack Russell terrier mix.

Punky is a good girl. Rascal is insane.

Wherever Punky goes, Rascal tags along. He steals her toys.
He licks her face when she's trying to sleep. And he
demands that she play with him every waking hour.

When she doesn't want to play, he tries to get her riled
up. He barks at her - and even bites her - until she's had
enough and runs after him... which is exactly what he wants.

Every once in a while, though, Punky makes it clear that
she doesn't want to play. She sets her boundaries. First,
she shows her teeth. If Rascal continues to annoy her, she
growls. And if he still persists, she snaps at him. It's a
dog's way of warning another dog and saying, "I'm in charge
here!"

There's a lot we can learn from Punky.

What Every ADDer Ought to Know About Boundaries

Adults with ADD very often have trouble creating
boundaries. September, in particular, can be a difficult
time as the world picks up its pace. It's back to school
for the students. More projects suddenly appear at work.
Retailers are beginning to drop hints about the holiday
season. And any minute now your phone will start ringing as
people begin asking you to help out with various causes and
functions.

There's a lot going on - and you can get overwhelmed just
thinking about it! Without the appropriate boundaries,
adults with ADD fall victim to the overwhelm-burnout cycle.
You get completely overwhelmed trying to accomplish
everything that you're 'supposed to,' and then you burnout
from all the mental and physical stress.

Fortunately, humans don't need to resort to barking or
biting to set boundaries. Here are 3 simple strategies that
you can use to set boundaries and take care of yourself.

1. Put yourself first. You're no use to anyone - family,
friends, or coworkers - when you're stressed out and
overwhelmed. Make sure you get what you need to function at
your best before committing to helping anyone else.

2. Set your own hours. Decide when you're willing to help
out or do things for other people. This includes spouses
and kids! If you want a night off to relax, you're entitled
to it.

3. Just say "No." Never be afraid to turn down the requests
that people make of you. You don't need an excuse to
decline, either. If you truly want to do something and you
have the time for it, then great. But you don't need to say
"yes" just because you were asked.

Remember, good boundaries help protect adults with ADD from
succumbing to overwhelm.

So the next time someone wants to cross your boundaries,
take a cue from Punky and communicate who's in charge!

What is the Best Way to Burn FAT?

We used to think that cardiovascular training was the
quickest and most effective way to shed unwanted pounds.
Aerobics, jogging, swimming, running and biking were the
main activities to turn to when we wanted to slim down. The
idea was that when you perform low level aerobic exercise
your body relied on calories from fat. Sounds good, right?
Well, there were a couple of major limitations with this
method…

First of all you only burn fat calories while the aerobics
are performed. Ifyou do twenty minutes, then you only burn
for twenty minutes; if you do two hours, then you only burn
for two hours.

Secondly, if you are overzealous with aerobics your body
actually eats away at lean tissue, leaving you with lowered
calorie requirements. Ever wonder why you eat the same
amount but still put on pounds? A loss in lean tissue will
do that to you every time.

Lucky for us, we live in a time of great scientific
discovery with tools and statistics that give us the
cutting edge in our quest for a slimmer, sexier body. And
science has given us the solution for optimal F.A.T.
B.U.R.N.

The Solution for optimal F.A.T. B.U.R.N is: Resistance
Training

You have probably heard about the many benefits of
resistance training.

Here are just a few:

1. Increase in muscle strength
2. Injury prevention
3. Improved bone density

Here are the two reasons that resistance training is the
most effective way to B.U.R.N. F.A.T.

1. Oxygen Debt
Now I know debt isn't usually a word that we enjoy…but in
this case I'm sure you will agree that it's a great thing.
Resistance training puts your body into oxygen debt which
means you will B.U.R.N. F.A.T. as you recover from your
workout. And this effect can last quite awhile - studies
have shown an increase in calorie burning for up to three
days following a resistance training workout.

2. Lean Tissue Burns More Calories
The other way that F.A.T. B.U.R.N. is accomplished with
resistance training is through an increase in your resting
metabolism. Lean tissue (muscle) requires many more
calories each day than fatty tissue. In fact, one pound of
muscle burns 30-50 calories each day at rest - compared to
a measly 9 calories per pound of fat.

When you perform resistance training exercises your body
composition will change to contain more lean tissue, thus
resulting in extra calories burned while you sleep.

Oriental Diagnosis - Find out the state of your health BEFORE illness sets in

Oriental Diagnosis is not a therapy in itself but a way of
recognising a weakened organ. Hopefully, before it causes
problems. If you know an organ is getting weak, then you
can do something about it BEFORE you get sick. This is a
true form of Holistic medicine. Preventive, not reactive.

Oriental Diagnosis is a very old, non invasive form of
diagnosis. It has been used for thousands of years in
countries such as Japan and China.

The shape and marking on your nose for example will tell
the practitioner what is happening in your heart, pancreas
and stomach.

Your lips will inform him as to how much stagnation you
have in your intestines.

The pimples/ markings on your chin or side of chin will
indicate the health/ disease of your reproductive system.

But Oriental Diagnosis can be exercised on other parts of
the body as well. For example the health of the heart,
liver, kidneys, lungs, spleen etc.. is visible on the
tongue.

The sclera in the eyes will also tell us what is happening
in the liver, gallbladder, pancreas and spleen. Cysts or
tumours in the reproductive system are sometimes noticeable
on the sclera. Please note that this technique is different
from iridology.

Meridians can also be used for diagnosis. Dis/colouration
on certain parts of the body where the meridians run can
give us a warning that something is going to happen in a
specific organ. Testing specific meridian points can also
inform us as to the congestion in certain organs.

The feet also have a story to tell as is powerfully
demonstrated with Reflexology. All organs are mirrored in
the feet (and the hands). Pressing on a specific part of
the foot will either confirm or question what we previously
found whilst diagnosing a person.

When combined together, all these diagnosing methods give
us a very good idea of what is happening in a person's body.

Why would somebody want to diagnose?

If you are told an organ is getting weak in advance, you
can take remedial steps to strengthen this organ before it
causes problems. Preventive medicine is always better than
reactive medicine and much more gentle on the body.

A story:

In a training course, a student had no energy. An
experienced Oriental Diagnosis practitioner could see from
her facial features that her kidneys were tired and that
her intestines were congested.

Oriental Diagnosis signs showed an excess of dairy and
animal products. One day she looked particularly tired, the
advice she was given by the practitioner was: "I think you
better give up dairy product and animal food for a while,
you look very tired". At first, she was shocked that
somebody could tell she loved dairy products and animal
food just by looking at her face but as she was indeed
feeling constantly tired, she followed the advice and
eventually became grateful.

Within a few weeks, she looked much better and amazed other
students on the course with the amount of energy she had
regained. By recognising the problem before it turned to
disease, she was able to change what she was doing wrong
and regain health. This is what holistic medicine should be
about!

Oriental Diagnosis will allow you to detect a forthcoming
health problem before it manifests. Doing so may save the
person a long illness. It may even save a life.

What can you do if you are told that one of your organ is
weak?

The 3 main causes of disease are:

1- A bad diet high in animal food, dairy products, sugar,
fast food, microwaved food, pre-prepared food, too many
meals out etc... This also includes consumption of sugared,
carbonated drinks, alcohol

2- Negative emotions, including stress (anything that
worries you or prevents you from getting a good night sleep)

3- Environmental toxins in your home from products used on
a daily basis such as your toothpaste with fluoride, your
shampoo with SLS (Sodium Lauryl Sulphate), your washing
powder, dishwasher tablets etc.. and the pollution in your
place of work with EMF from computers, routers, neon lights
etc.. Plus of course pollution from factories, pesticides,
exhaust fumes etc..

Basically, there is no quick fix to health and you must
address all three causes with precision. Remember the words
of Japanese philosopher and Macrobiotic Guru George Ohsawa:
"There is no incurable disease, only incurable people". An
organ usually takes a long time to get weak and the only
way to get it healthy again is by changing our life-style.
But with proper advice and guidance, one may be able to
recover health.

Having said all this, remember that in our free society
health practitioners are not supposed to diagnose. Only
doctors!
