Does What You Eat Lead to Depression?

Does What You Eat Lead to Depression?
Are you a sufferer of chronic depression? Are you being
treated with anti depressant medication and talk therapy?
Are these treatments working for you? A lot of people tend
to find positives in the treatments. For two years I've
been taking Zoloft and it has helped me feel better than
ever. Medication has definitely, come a long way.

Unfortunately there are others who cannot seem to get the
same effects. Is this you? No matter which medications they
try and regardless of who they talk to they can't seem to
find relief. What's so disturbing is that this is not
uncommon. Depression is a complex disease that affects as
many as 20 million different people.

It's not easy for a therapist or doctor when it comes to
figuring out just the right combination of medication and
talk therapy considering just how different we all are and
how differently we respond to treatment. Wouldn't it be
helpful if we could put ourselves in a position where we
had a much better chance of getting these treatments to
work?

Studies have concluded that a person's diet can have a
significant effect on depression and its symptoms.

The Diet to Prevent Depression:

There is scientific evidence that proves that certain foods
can help to eliminate the symptoms associated with
depression. In addition, there is conclusive evidence that
eating foods that contain particular ingredients can
prevent depression. Here is a look at some of the essential
foods and ingredients that can prove to be absolutely vital
to your mental health.

1. Omega 3 fatty acids available in fish oils are necessary
in the relief and prevention of depression. Research with
the most recent study conducted by Ohio State University
has shown that depressed people often lack the correct
balance of fatty acids. Current recommendations allow up
to two servings each week of cold-water fish and the best
source of Omega 3 comes from salmon and trout.

2. Treating depression and mood elevation has been very
successfully achieved when vitamins such as Vitamin B12
were used to treat the conditions. Although researchers are
not sure why, a lack or low volume of B vitamins may be a
cause for depression. You can get these vitamins from items
like spinach, salads, avocados, and similar items.

3. Many minerals are essential with regard to alleviating
depression. It has been shown that some people may have a
deficiency in minerals such as magnesium, calcium, zinc,
manganese and potassium, when suffering. Iron deficiency,
also known as Anemia for example has been found to be a
major offender when it comes to depression. The minerals
you need to fight depression can be found usually in meats
and vegetables.

Foods to Avoid:

Just as there are certain foods that actually work to
reduce the possibility of developing and enduring symptoms
that are associated with the "blues", there are certain
foods, beverages, and ingredients that should be avoided or
if you are experiencing depression or even if you are prone
to depression.

1. Carbohydrates - Decreasing carbohydrates has been found
to be extremely beneficial when it comes to combating
depression. Depression can be alleviated by the intake of
carbs, which raise serotonin levels. The problem is that
after the high is complete the depressed mood returns -
usually worse than before.

2. Caffeine - When depressed, caffeine can make the
situation worse. Caffeine is a stimulant that can get you
feeling "up". However, it too can bring you "down" really
quickly.

3. Alcohol should be avoided as it is a natural depressant.

3. Sugar - Metabolism in a person's body can be swayed by
large amounts of sugar entering it and should be avoided if
possible.

4. Salt - If you are someone who has difficulties
struggling with depression, it is best to minimize your
salt intake.

Conclusion:

We have all heard the saying "you are what you eat". This
is especially true if you suffer from depression and the
symptoms of depression are not easy to treat being
different people respond differently to different treatment
options.

One thing that is certain is that by maintaining a healthy
diet you can relieve or even prevent depression altogether.

Attention Busy Women: You Can Lose 2 to 3 Inches Off Your Butt

Attention Busy Women: You Can Lose 2 to 3 Inches Off Your Butt
I haven't come across very many ladies who are totally
pleased with their butt.

Actually I can't remember meeting one woman who was totally
satisfied with the size of her butt.

Some have wanted a bigger, rounder butt, but most women I
meet want their butt to be smaller, yet round...or "A butt
that stops traffic" as one woman put it.

So what does it take to lose inches off your butt? Is it
all about some "sculpting" exercise you learned about in
some women's magazine? Or maybe you need to use the latest
gadget found on late night infomercials or some magic
lotion that you slather on your booty.

All of those things are wrong, and you should never, ever
buy those gizmos off the late night infomercials. Not when
you can get better exercises done without spending any
extra cash.

The first thing you need to fix is your nutrition. Are you
eating for a nice butt? A butt worthy of a bikini, or
tight jeans?

That doesn't mean you have to go on some crazy diet. Quite
the contrary. You need to eat enough to maintain your
muscle, because muscle is what gives you a nice butt.

You need to make sure you eat lots of fruits and vegetables
throughout the day and that could be through eating whole,
raw fruits and vegetables, or by preparing your own
smoothies made with real fruits and veggies, not juices.

You also need to make sure you're getting enough protein
and fat. Yes I said fat. You need to consume fat if you
really want to lose inches off your butt. However the fat
should come from healthy nuts like almonds, or cold water
fish like salmon and albacore tuna. Eating those will also
ensure you get your protein and fiber.

But what exercises should you do to lose inches off your
butt?

Forget about those "sculpting" moves found in the latest
women's magazine from the checkout line.

You need to do exercises that use a lot of muscle and thus
burn a lot more fat calories.

You need to do exercises like squats and lunges. You need
to do them with your own bodyweight and you need to add
some resistance in the form of dumbbells

You should also do your exercises in the form of supersets
or circuits.

Try this example the next time you're at the gym or working
out from home.

1A) Dumbbell Reverse Lunge - 8 reps per leg 1B)
Bodyweight Squat - 15 reps 1C) Hip Extension - 15 reps

Perform those 3 exercises as a circuit moving from one to
the next with little to no rest and repeat the circuit 3-4
times.

That circuit, if done properly, will work the butt muscles
hard. Add that circuit to the beginning of your workout,
when you're still fresh and do it 2-3 times per week for 4
weeks and you will have a smaller, firmer, rounder butt by
the end of that month.

Botox Side Effects

Botox Side Effects
Everyone knows about Botox. However, not everyone knows the
properties of Botox, the functions and the side effects.
All we know is that Botox can helps to make us look younger
and no wrinkles. Botox is a trademark name given to
describe the toxin injection treatment used to treat
medical conditions and cosmetic conditions. The toxin is
known as Botulinum that is derived from the bacteria
Clostridia. Botox is a extremely poisonous and it is
naturally produced. However, with a small amount of Botox
can help to treat many types of conditions.

The most popular treatment among the many treatments
available would be to erase facial and neck wrinkles.
Usually it is injected in between the eyebrows, forehead,
deep neck and crow's feet beside the eyes. The area you
should avoid is the mouth area as if injected in the area
you will have difficulty in speaking and eating. The
injection is a very simple procedure and there is no need
for anaesthesia. Botox is extremely powerful and effective
in treating wrinkles but there is a very high price to pay,
not only the money but also the side effects.

So what are the side effects? There are so many side
effects using Botox but there are also many people choose
to undergo this treatment despite being extremely expensive
and have many side effects. After injecting Botox into the
treatment area, you will experience pain and bruising.
After a while, you will have a temporary facial droop if
the Botox is used to treat more muscle than it is supposed
to treat. Later on, you will experience headache such as
migraine and nausea. Of course, these are very
uncomfortable side effects you will have to bear if you
choose to accept Botox treatment. However, depending on the
individuals, the side effects can be different. There are
some other side effects as well being reported though not
everyone experience the same side effects.

More rare and severe side effects include paralysis of the
body. Usually this only happens if you have been injected
with fake or unapproved Botox. Others would be allergic
reactions to the poison, flu-like syndromes, muscle
weakness and facial paralysis. Some of them also experience
blepharospasm or in other words, involuntary blinkings and
excessive sweating. However, most of the side effects will
wear off after 6 weeks of injection. Botox when used in a
small quantity usually has a very low toxicity. However,
there are people urging the FDA to regulate the spread of
Botox to avoid being misused or overdosed. Overdosed in
Botox usually fatal to the person thus it can be very
dangerous when dealing with Botox treatment. The quantity
used in the treatment must be precise.

In case of overdosage in Botox treatment, then special
treatment of antitoxin combined with artificial ventilation
will be needed as usually it affects the paralysis of
respiratory muscles. If the treatment is given on time,
then there will be chances of surviving otherwise there
will be death. The recovery might takes up to months in the
process.

Empower your Plate with Enzymes

Empower your Plate with Enzymes
It's time to "Empower" your plate with nature's SECRET!
Take charge of what you eat and how it affects your body!
Think about how you feel when you eat healthy, delicious
food versus when you "splurge" and eat not-so-healthy
foods. During the summer months, supercharge your plate
with some of the most plentiful foods around, during the
time of year when it's at the peak of freshness; living
foods are power-packed with endless nutritional benefits. A
great way to get started is to add fresh fruit and salad to
your meals whenever possible, but the real advantage will
be to add greens to your breakfast, lunch AND dinner.
Here's the SECRET: enzymes. You can find loads of enzymes
in a variety of greens and one easy way to add them to your
diet is to simply juice them. I've literally juiced pounds
of greens and had a salad in a glass~the trick is to add a
couple of apples to sweeten the deal. My typical juicing
recipe includes: cucumber, green pepper, kale, romaine,
spinach, celery and apples! According to Rose Lee Calabro
in her book, Living in the Raw, (Book Pub Co 2003),
"Enzymes (found in uncooked food) are protein catalysts
that have to be present for life to exist. They perform a
multitude of functions in the body, both metabolic and
digestive. For example, if the enzyme was compared to a
skilled worker who has been trained very well to perform a
specific task, without him, all work stops. Enzymes play a
vital role in the digestion, assimilation and elimination
of food and its by-products. Without enzymes, human life as
we know it is not possible. And the more enzymes (in fresh
living food) there are, the healthier we are." Let's say
you're having lunch with one of your friends and you choose
a cooked entree from the menu and she chooses a salad.
Within minutes after you start eating, an increasing number
of enzymes appear in your friend's digestive system,
especially in her stomach and upper small intestine. These
enzymes play the very important role of breaking down food.
You may be asking yourself, "Where did the enzymes come
from?" According to Calabro's research, there are two
possible sources:

1.Those in the food
2.Those provided by the body.

"Since the cooked meal has zero enzymes, all of the enzymes
for digestion have to be borrowed from the body's
cells. This borrowing of enzymes also drains the body of its
enzyme reserve. At birth, we are given a supply of enzymes,
and they are not naturally replenished. Many of the
maladies we associate with aging are actually symptoms of a
diminishing enzyme reserve. Eating enzyme-rich living foods
get your body off the hook for that particular meal,
letting the foods essentially digest themselves," Calabro
says.

Remember that some of these borrowed (from the body's
existing) enzymes are not "experts" in digestion--they were
actually trained for other roles in the body.

This, according to Calabro, creates two problems:

1. Your meal will be incompletely digested, which means you
won't get all the nutrition possible
2. The original task of those enzymes won't be completed.
(disease prevention/healing, anti-aging).

Perhaps the most extensive research on the effect that
(living) food enzymes have on our health was conducted by
Dr. Edward Howell, and documented in his easy-to-read book,
Enzyme Nutrition (Avery Publishing Group 1985). He found
that people eating a lifetime of low-enzyme foods
eventually drained their enzyme supply and became prone to:

digestive problems premature aging mineral and vitamin
deficiencies blood sugar imbalances allergies, frequent
illnesses problems with their weight osteoporosis heart and
circulatory diseases various forms of cancer

The good news, he also found that you could rebuild your
enzyme supply by eating foods high in enzymes (raw living
foods).

You have to hand it to Mother Nature, she's always looking
out for us, giving us everything we need for our optimum
health and wellness. Go ahead, get empowered, give fresh
raw food a try!
