We live in a world were the race for a quick fix has become
part of our lives. We no longer have the patience to wait
for the things that we want. We live in a culture that
wants things now and not tomorrow. Weight loss is no
exception to this rule. The weight loss industry is a
billion dollar industry, and it feeds our cravings and
desperation towards losing weight. The weight loss industry
offers many quick fix solutions that do not always deliver
what they promise.
Diet pills are perceived as a quick fix for weight loss
without virtually any effort. They make all sorts of
wonderful claims but the reality of the outcome rarely
matches what that they promise. The problem is that there
are many diet pills which have risks that are attached to
them, and such risks will often outweigh any benefits that
you get from taking diet pills.
The thing is that many diet pills are not regulated by any
official body. This is because diet pills are considered to
be supplements. One of the main risks involved in taking
diet pills is the potential heart problems that they may
cause. This happens because a lot of ingredients in diet
pills work by boosting your metabolism. These ingredients
also speed up the rate that your heart works at. If you
already have a heart problem then clearly the risks of
taking diet pills are magnified.
Many people often become reliant on diet pills, to the
point were addiction is the result. When you are taking
diet pills that stimulate your heart and metabolism to go
faster then taking these pills over a long period can lead
to dire consequences.
Some diet pills claim to suppress your appetite. If this is
the case, then on the face of it you may think that this
will be a good thing. However if you have a high calorie
intake and you start taking a diet pill that suppresses
your appetite, what will happen that you will cut back on
the amount of food you eat. Unfortunately your metabolism
will not think of this as a positive situation. It will
think that you are starving and it will take steps to
protect you. It will do this by decreasing its ability to
burn calories. No burning calories equals no more weight
loss.
Exercise is the best and safest method to speed up your
metabolism, and not diet pills. When you exercise your body
requires calories to cope with the activity. This means
that you don't have to necessarily cut large amounts of
calories from your diet. All you have to do is to replace
the calories that come from bad food, with calories that
come from good food. Another important factor to consider
is, that if you eat two or three times a day then you will
need to change this to eating five or six times a day. Just
split the calories you eat over five or six meals instead
of consuming them in two or three meals. These smaller
meals allow your metabolism to work more efficiently and
help you to digest your food more quickly and more easily.
If you do go for the option of taking diet pills, then make
sure your approach is cautious. Consult your doctor about
the pill that you want to take and get a professional
medical opinion on the advantages and disadvantages.
However don't just stop there, do your own research. Look
on the internet and research the ingredients of the pills.
Discover if there are risks to your health and what side
effects to expect. I know some tablets often say that some
side effects could occur in rare circumstances. However do
you really want to be one of those people who fall into
'rare circumstances' group? At the end of the day it will
be your decision, but keep in mind that any results that
you may achieve will not be long lasting. Also when you do
stop taking the diet pills, the probability of any weight
that you may have lost coming back, will be pretty high.
The safest and most workable method towards losing weight
is a healthy diet and a good exercise programme. The side
effects from both of these will all be positive. On top of
this you will have the knowledge that you had the
determination, commitment, and will power to do it the
right way, and not by clinging to some small hope that will
never bear fruit just by taking diet pills, along with the
risks that go with them.
