Fast Muscle Mass Building: Hard Work is the Key

Fast Muscle Mass Building: Hard Work is the Key
Today it seems like every new weight trainer and
bodybuilder is looking for the perfect muscle mass building
routines and best supplement to solve their problem for
lack or growth. They believe that if they can just find the
right program or revolutionary new supplement that all of
their muscle mass building problems will be gone.

The first mistake that's being made is that they are
looking for "something out there" that can achieve the
results that they want so bad. The truth is, the answer
isn't "out there." You'll only get the results you want
through applying the right information and working hard
consistently and persistently. It is vitally important to
have a properly designed workout program and a diet plan
for building muscle mass, though one of the key factors
that most weight trainers leave out is a very basic one:
hard work.

Plain and simply most trainees today just don't work hard
enough on their exercises. Working hard on a half-way
decent exercise will bring more results then a haphazard
attempt on the best exercise in the world. If you a are a
hardgainer - someone who is naturally skinny and has a hard
time gaining weight and building muscle mass quickly - then
the proper workout routine and diet will do you no good if
you don't put 110 % effort into it.

Most weight trainers and bodybuilders today pass up many
muscle mass building routines and waste much of their time
jumping back and forth between routines when all they have
to do is stick with their program the whole time through
and consistently work hard.

If you are not sure whether or not you are working hard
enough on your exercises, then you are not working hard
enough. If you think you are working hard enough on your
exercises then you probably still aren't working hard
enough on your exercises.

If you say yes to any of the following questions, you are
not working hard enough:

- Are you sometimes thinking of something other then your
workout while at the gym?

-Do you ever find yourself constantly talking and having
conversations with others while working out?

-Do you ever go to the gym tired, hungry, and/or unprepared?

-Assuming you are taking all safety precautions, do you
usually find yourself mentally quitting before you are
finished physically on a set or rep?

- Are you not constantly keeping track and progressing each
week, whether it's more weight or more reps?

Keep in mind that when I say hard work, I am talking about
the effort you put into your exercises, not how much or how
long you work out for.

Getting results in the gym, much like any worthwhile
success is about the quality of work you put in the gym,
not the quantity.

If you really want to gain weight and build muscle fast
then hard work is not an option. You can fiddle around with
a bunch of exercises and great routines all you want, but
if you want results, you have to earn it through your own
sweat and tears.

This shouldn't be a disappointing reminder for most of you.
There is great joy and a sense of power that we can get
from hard work, and weight training is one of the purest
and rawest of forms. There is really nothing else out there
that can relate to the ruthless and barbaric ways of weight
training.

It is, in essence, man's closest expression for good old
fashion hard work. And the results are always well, well
worth the work. As long as we have a solid routine and a
proper and consistent diet, you can really learn to enjoy
the hard work and the process of growth and development,
both physically and mentally.

As much as the industry can try, technology can never
replace hard work in weight training for results. Sure,
there are supplements and machines and equipment coming out
everyday that claim to make our journey to greater muscle
seem "easier," but none of these alone will replace the key
ingredient for results in bodybuilding.

So if you have been looking for some magic formula to fix
all your weight gaining and muscle mass building problems,
perhaps you need not look further then inside. We can all
always ask ourselves honestly whether or not we are really
working as hard as we should be.

And remember, don't kid yourself, you'll only be cheating
yourself, no one else. Success is 10% inspiration and 90%
perspiration. Keep that in mind next time you are trying to
spot the cause for any lack of progress you may be having.

Breast Enhancement - Pills Could Be Good Option

Breast Enhancement - Pills Could Be Good Option
One can enhance the breasts naturally by using the natural
breast enhancement pills. To acquire the attention that
woman deserves, more and more of them are now learning that
breast enhancement pills are safe and effective way to get
good and attractive bosoms. Such pills are the herbal
remedies they always sought after. Once you adopt such
therapy and get the desired shape and size of the breasts,
while walking in the street, you can be sure turning many
heads and to stare at your mesmerizing front organs. And
why not they? After all, you have those busts that hundreds
of men would die for! But remember, this all was just
because of proper consumption and regularity taking breast
enlargement pills that contained natural herbs.

Oftentimes, it is seen that to enhance the breasts, women
try some dangerous, unnatural therapies and treatment
methods; unfortunately, they do not get desired results
what they had dreamed of and moreover, they expose
themselves to potentially unsafe and risky effects. To get
great results, the favoring news is that that natural
breast enhancement pills are now readily available in the
market that do not require even doctor's prescription. They
are available just at cornershop or any cosmetic shop and
are quite affordable.

Breasts have always been considered as a pair of the organs
that can attract any men on the earth. Breasts, apart from
their primary function - breastfeeding, also play
significant role in glamour industry. They are the organs
participating very actively in sexuality and even in
foreplay. They are considered to be very sensitive organs
and touching and fondling them can make woman arouse in few
minutes.

Unfortunately, every woman is not blessed with good breasts
and because of having small breasts, many women are
embarrassed, especially when occasion or situation demands
her to wear some bathing or swimming suit at summertime or
when they see attractive necklines and sexy cleavage on the
other women's evening dresses. Such situations make them
always feel nervous and they envy those women having
attractive busts and feel confident wearing those
fashionable clothes.

Nowadays, with the help of natural breast enhancement
pills, one can enhance the breasts and can boost the
self-esteem as well. Many of the modern women find surgery
as a way to get them bigger breasts but soon get trapped
with side effects such as uneven shapes, infections,
discomfort and so on. And hence, more and more women are
now resort towards natural breast enhancement pills.

If we look at other options such as push-up bras and padded
bras; they too never seem the solution either. They can't
get bigger breasts that are in desired shape and size. The
natural breast enhancement pill works like no other
breast-enhancing technique. It can give you effective
results, all-natural, cheaply and above all safe. The
manufacturers of such breast enhancement capsules claim
this as an effective treatment that is guaranteed to
produce more enhanced breasts without any side effects and
hence, are to be considered as great alternative or
substitute for the cosmetic breast surgery.

Throughout the world, small sized breasts have been surely
considered as the source of agony for the woman having
them, since nowadays, having bigger breasts are better and
they are socially promoted and considered too. Bigger and
attractive busts boost the self-confidence and markedly
affect the attitude and aptitude of the woman.

How to Treat Shoulder Pain

How to Treat Shoulder Pain
People of all ages suffer from shoulder pain. The causes
are many and can range from an unknown onset to a traumatic
event. Many people develop shoulder pain from performing
repetitive type activities for prolonged times. Others
will experience pain in the shoulder following a fall onto
the shoulder or on the outstretched arm. Sometimes the
reason for pain is not as obvious. I see many cases where
a person cannot identify what caused the pain in the
shoulder. Often times this pain for unknown reasons can
occur when someone bumps their shoulder against the door
jam in the middle of the night when going to the bathroom.
This rather benign action sets off a chemical process in
the shoulder that will build up over several days.
Eventually this will cause pain in the shoulder. Since the
injury occurred several days earlier the person cannot
recall any event that started the process. Regardless of
the cause of the pain in the shoulder the treatment is
often similar from case to case.

Treatment of the shoulder can encompass several different
areas. Conservative measures include medication such as
anti-inflammatories or pain medications, rest, cortisone
injections, and or physical therapy. All of these methods
can be effective in helping relieve a painful shoulder
especially when they are performed in combination with each
other.

Often times when you present to your medical doctor with
complaints of shoulder pain they will prescribe some
medication as described above. Rest will also be advocated
although this is not always easy for people to follow
depending on their activity levels or their occupations.
Injections for the painful shoulder are sometimes given
right away depending on your medical doctor's philosophy.
Some MD's would rather you attend physical therapy before
considering injecting the painful shoulder. Injections are
not the end all beat all and they do not offer relief to
all patients that receive them. Often times a well rounded
physical therapy program can alleviate shoulder pain and
you won't have to consider having an injection.

Physical therapy treatment can consist of the following
interventions:

1. Therapeutic exercises: this will consist of range of
motion, conditioning, and strengthening exercises. The
goal here is to maximize and restore any loss of range of
motion, improve the overall endurance of the shoulder blade
and shoulder muscles and to improve the strength of these
same muscles. The muscles surrounding the shoulder blade
must be conditioned and strengthened just as the main
shoulder muscles would be because the shoulder blade
muscles have to work in conjunction with the shoulder
muscles in order to restore normal motion and to prevent
recurrence of pain.

2. Manual therapy: this will consist of hands on treatment
that the physical therapist would perform on you. This
might consist of joint mobilization (i.e. techniques
designed to improve joint motion and relieve pain), or soft
tissue massage (i.e. techniques designed to improve muscle
and connective tissue flexibility and to relieve pain).

3. Modalities: this consists of machines that the physical
therapist may apply to your painful shoulder to assist in
pain relief and healing along with the other treatments
mentioned above. Some of these machines are ultrasound,
electrical stimulation, TENS, or iontophoresis.

All of these interventions can be used in the treatment of
a painful shoulder. It is common in clinical practice to
use a combination of these interventions. It has been my
experience in treating hundreds of shoulder patients over
the years that therapeutic exercise is an absolute in the
treatment of the painful shoulder. Well rounded exercises
that target the shoulder blade and shoulder muscles are the
mainstay of any good physical therapy regimen for the
treatment of shoulder pain. A painful shoulder can persist
for years. With the right education you won't have to
suffer any longer!

Three supplements that can help your muscle building efforts

Three supplements that can help your muscle building efforts
In previous articles, I've made the important point that
supplements are not necessary to build significant amounts
of muscle. Many expert trainers such as Vincent Delmonte
have criticized supplement companies for making
questionable claims about their products. It's true that
many new trainees can be misled by these claims. In
addition, bodybuilding magazines are filled with product
advertisements that make beginning weightlifters expect
huge gains with no effort.

As with most things in life that are worth achieving, great
results in strength training will not come easily. If you
expect weight gain supplements to magically deliver you
massive amounts of muscle, you're bound to be disappointed.
You'll end up wasting money and become really discouraged
about your muscle building program.

Does that mean that all supplements are worthless? Not at
all. There are a few supplements that can be helpful, as
long as you don't expect them to do all the work for you!
Aside from supplements like creatine that can help you
build muscle directly, there are also recommended products
that can fight inflammation and reduce the risk of injury.
Here are three supplements that you should consider when
beginning a new weight training program:

Protein powders: Protein powders offer a convenient and
effective way to add protein to your diet. That new muscle
that you're seeking has to come from somewhere, but it's
often difficult to squeeze enough protein into your meals.
These powders, or liquid meals, should be used as
supplements and not as your primary source of food
throughout the day. Relying too much on these products
would deprive you essential minerals, fiber, and other
nutrients.

Creatine: The way creatine works is to basically give you
more energy so you can continue your muscle building
workouts. The molecule known as ATP acts as the essential
energy compound for the body. As it is used up, it loses a
phosphate group, and as you use up your ATP you get tired.
Creatine adds a phosphate group back to the molecule to
recharge it so it can continue to produce energy. Thus,
creatine can help you accomplish a longer, more intense
workout that will stimulate more muscle growth.

Fish oil: Fish oil is not going to add muscle to your frame
directly, but it can be very helpful in reducing overall
inflammation in your body. This is important in protecting
your body, including your joints, from damage during your
intense workouts.

As I've said many times before, you should not rely
completely on any of these supplements. As a matter of
fact, supplements like creatine or glutamine will probably
give you little benefit if you have not mastered the
fundamentals of strength training and muscle building
nutrition.

Discolored Teeth

Discolored Teeth
One of the most frequent reasons for seeking dental care is
discolored anterior teeth. Even persons having teeth with
normal color often request to have them made whiter.
Treatment considerations include removal of surface stains,
bleaching, veneering and placement of porcelain crowns.

Discolorations are classified as extrinsic or intrinsic.
Extrinsic stains are located on the outer surface of the
teeth, whereas, intrinsic stains are internal. The
etiology and treatments are discussed below:

Extrinsic Discolorations

Stains on the outside of the teeth are quite common. In
younger persons, stains may be related to remnants of
Nasmyth's membrane, poor oral hygiene, existing
restorations, bleeding gums, plaque accumulation, irregular
eating habits or the presence of chromogenic bacteria or
fungi. In older persons, stains on the teeth are more
likely to be brown, black or gray and occur on areas
adjacent to the gingival tissue. Poor oral hygiene is a
contributing factor as well as coffee, tea and certain
other types of foods.

Treatment

Most surface stains can be removed by routine prophylactic
procedures. Some superficial discolorations on tooth
colored restorations and decalcified areas on the teeth
cannot be corrected by such cleaning. Conservative
correction may be accomplished by surfacing the thin outer
discolored layer with a flame shaped carbide finishing bur,
followed by polishing with abrasive discs to obtain an
acceptable result.

Intrinsic Discolorations

These are caused by deeper, internal stains and are more
complicated to treat than external stains. Teeth with
vital and nonvital pulps can be affected as well as root
canal treated teeth. Vital teeth can be discolored at the
time the crowns are forming and the abnormal condition
usually involves several teeth. Factors include hereditary
disorders, sickness, medications, excess fluorides and
trauma. The staining may be located in the enamel or in
dentin; discolorations restricted to dentin may still show
through the enamel.

Treatment

Correction of intrinsic discolorations caused by lesions or
failing restorations entails replacement of the faulty
portion or the entire restoration. Many persons have
definite esthetic problems from intrinsic stains, whereas
other worry needlessly about the overall color of their
teeth. People with light complexions may thing that their
teeth are too dark when they are actually the normal color.
Most stains can be treated and improved with methods such
as bleaching or veneers. In fact, teeth whitening has
become extremely popular for those who have no stains or
discoloration. Just the desire to have whiter teeth has
brought teeth whitening into the mainstream.

Build a Mass of Muscle by Going Back to the Basics

Build a Mass of Muscle by Going Back to the Basics
These days it seems that right when a new type of
technology comes out, a better version quickly replaces it.
Whether it's cell phones, Ipod's, computers, or energy
drinks. Right when we get version 5.0, 6.0 comes out and is
faster, bigger and better. With technology changing so
rapidly these days it's hard to keep up with the latest and
greatest.

What I love best about workouts for muscle mass and gaining
weight is that no matter what great salesman comes up with
a new and improved workout gym, exercise, or supplement,
there is nothing better to build a mass of muscle then the
same basic exercises men did way back in the 50's.

This is because although our minds have so much potential
to learn and grow, our bodies will ONLY grow based on just
a few basic principles applied over and over. And no matter
where technology takes us in the future, there will never
be any supplement or exercise that can replace good old
fashioned hard work on a few of the most basic compound
exercises.

So if you find yourself bombarded with new information
everyday on weight training and bodybuilding, don't get too
flustered, all you need to know is just the basics. Basic
exercises such as squats, bench presses, pull-ups, shoulder
presses, and bicep curls are the benchmark for maximum
muscle mass. And don't get all fancy with these exercises,
just using good old fashioned barbells and dumbbells will
do the trick, especially if you are a beginner.

Even if you are not a beginner and you have been training
for a while, don't forget about the basic exercises. There
is no better and sure way to boost your strength and muscle
mass then the basic exercises performed a few times a week.

A key point is also to focus on getting stronger each
workout, not on how big of a pump you get or by "feeling
the burn." I can wager that anybody, beginner or advanced
could build a mass of muscle with a just few compound
exercises done a few times a week with the intent on just
progressively increasing your strength will build more
muscle consistently then any new fancy equipment or
"advanced" exercise can achieve.

So if find yourself thinking you are "falling behind" with
all the new trends and exercises out there, one of the best
things you can do is go back to the basics. You'll be
amazed that what worked yesterday still and always will
work today!

Find Out Why Pilates May Not Be Enough To Achieve Your Ultimate Fitness Goal Of A Better Bod

Find Out Why Pilates May Not Be Enough To Achieve Your Ultimate Fitness Goal Of A Better Bod
What are Pilates? Well, the Pilates Method is a physical
exercising system that was developed by Joseph Pilates in
the early 1900's. The idea of Pilates is that this type of
exercise uses the brain to control the muscles of the body.
The Pilates Method, as it is also known, focuses on the key
muscles that assist in keeping the body balanced.

These important muscles make up one of the support systems
for the spine.

By doing Pilates, you will become more aware of your
breathing and of the alignment of your own spine. The
ultimate goal out of this exercise system is to strengthen
the muscles in the torso even though much more can be
achieved by using the Pilates system correctly.

Before I explain the process of the Pilates system, it is
important for you to know the history of this revolutionary
fitness system. Joseph Pilates invented the system during
the First World War in an attempt to improve the mental and
physical condition of war veterans.

Over the years since its creation, the Pilates way of
exercise has developed into one of the most popular systems
in the United States, with over 11 million people
practicing the exercise on a regular basis.

There are many principles of the Pilates system. While
the exact principles can be debated upon, the general
perception is that the principles are as followed:
Breathing, Centering, Concentration, Control, and
Precision. Each of these principles play an important part
in the Pilates system as the full benefits and effects of
the Pilates system are experienced when all of these
principles are utilized.

Breathing is a very important part of the Pilates system.
The founder of the Pilates technique, Joseph Pilates,
believed that it was important for the blood to circulate
so that the cell waste created by fatigue would be removed
from the body. He also believed that the blood had to
contain a vast amount of oxygen in order to remove the
waste products through breathing.

Due to this fact, the Pilates system is based upon the
process of correct breathing. Every Pilates exercise is
designed in such a way to provide for proper inhalation and
exhalation of oxygen.

Centering is another key aspect of the Pilates system. The
Pilates style of exercise starts at the "powerhouse" of the
body. The "powerhouse" consists of the large group of
muscles located in the center of the body. Another name for
the "powerhouse" is the "core", which is the term that most
instructors will use

Basically, the energy generated by the Pilates system
begins at the "core" and flows to the other parts of the
body as the exercise session continues.

Concentration is yet another important principle of
Pilates. Pilates demands a great amount of focus. From the
control of your breathing to the control of your limbs,
concentration is vital for a successful Pilates workout.

The entire Pilates system is built upon the idea of
Control. In order to enjoy a complete Pilates session, you
must have the ability to control your muscles. The
movements of the muscles must be controlled and calculated.
By doing this, you will reduce the risk of injury and allow
yourself to enjoy a more effective workout. Finally,
Precision is another major part of the Pilates system. The
body has to be precise in its movements or else energy is
wasted.

The idea of Pilates are to make precise and perfect
movements instead of imperfect movements that waste energy
and time. That would be a basic summary of the Pilates way
of life. If you are interested in starting a Pilates
chapter in your life, I recommend that you contact a
personal trainer to get you stared on the right track.

Best Ab Exercises for Building 6-Pack Abs

Best Ab Exercises for Building 6-Pack Abs
Men's Health expert fitness trainer Craig Ballantyne
believes that men and women can lose their belly fat and
get flat lower abs with fast fat loss workouts.

He even believes you can "spot reduce" and lose your tummy
fat with a specific type of exercise -- and no, it's not ab
crunches. Plus, he knows specific abdominal exercises that
can flatten your lower abs.

"The classic ab crunch is generally a waste of time because
the ab crunch doesn't work the entire main ab muscle
(rectus abdominis). There are other better, unique ab
exercises that men and women can do to flatten their lower
abs," Ballantyne advises.

"And if you want to lose belly fat, forget about doing
long, slow boring cardio for fat loss," Ballantyne insists.
"You'll get more results in less time in your fat burning
workouts by using interval training for fat loss.

This was proven by a research study from Australia, who
found that only interval training helped women lose belly
fat, while doing cardio for twice as long did not!"

Some of Ballantyne's favorite abdominal exercises can be
done with just your bodyweight or need only a common
exercise ball.

Here's a list of just a few of his favorite total body ab
exercises that will help you get a flat stomach (provided
you combine these exercises with interval training for fat
loss):

Exercise Ball Ab Rollouts

Kneel on a mat and place your clasped hands on the top of a
medium sized ball. Brace your abs and slowly lean forward
and roll your hands over the ball while the ball moves away
from your body. Keep your body in a straight line and go as
far as you can with perfect form. Contract your abs and
reverse the motion to return to the upright position.

Hanging Leg Raise

Hang from a chin-up bar using an underhand grip. Brace your
abs. With a slight bend in your knees, curl your hips back
and raise your legs up in front of you until they are
parallel to the floor. Don't use momentum. Go slow and
controlled both ways.

Side Planks

Raise your body in a straight line so that your body hovers
over the mat. Keep your back straight and your hips up.
Hold your abs tight. Contract them as if someone was about
to punch you in the stomach, but breath normally.

Plank with Your Arms on the Ball

Place your clasped hands on the top of a medium sized ball.
Keep your body in a straight line from shoulders to toes
and keep your abs braced.

Plus, if you have access to a commercial gym, his favorite
resistance exercises for your abs -- to help you build a
set of 6-pack abs -- include:

Cable Chops

Stand sideways beside a cable stack with your right
shoulder closest to the stack. Attach a handle to the
highest pulley position. Grasp the handle over your right
shoulder with arms extended and a slight bend at the elbow.
Your knees should be slightly bent and your hips slightly
pushed back. Prepare for the exercise by bracing
(contracting) your abdominals from top to bottom. Without
bending at the elbows any further, bring your arms down and
across the body using your abs to initiate the movement.
Focus on working your abs and obliques. Bring your hands
across to your left hip pocket and then slowly return to
the start. Perform all reps for one side and then switch.

Kneeling Cable Ab Crunches

Attach a rope handle to the top of a cable pulley system.
Kneel in front of the pulley and hold the rope behind your
head. Brace your abs, and curl your torso forward. Your
arms should remain above your head during the crunch.
Slowly return to the start position.

Do two exercises twice per week, and do intervals 3 times
per week for best results.

Treatment for Age Spots - 4 Quick and Easy Methods for Removing Age Spots Within Days

Treatment for Age Spots - 4 Quick and Easy Methods for Removing Age Spots Within Days
Age spots, also known as liver spots or brown spots, are a
common occurrence among those 55 years and older. While
these blemishes are neither cancerous nor precancerous,
their presence alone can be quite a nuisance. As a result,
many people search for a quick and easy treatment for age
spots so they can regain their youthful appearance boost
their self-confidence. There are roughly 4 different
methods that have proven to be effective for removing age
spots. We'll take a brief look at each one so you can
determine which one suits you best.

IPL Treatment

IPL, also known as photorejuvenation, stands for Intensed
Pulsed Light. This treatment for age spots is a
non-ablative which simply means it doesn't damage the
surface of the skin. With IPL, intense light is sent to the
deeper layers of your skin (dermis) without touching the
superficial layers (epidermis). This innovative method is
good for removing age spots because it uses the pulsed
light to stimulate new collagen growth while fading
discoloration and evening your skin tone.

The only drawback about IPL is that it has to be performed
by a trained medical professional. The procedure can be
quite expensive, too. You'd have to have 4 to 6 IPL
treatments to see real results. At $300 to 600 per session,
you could easily end up spending $1200 to $2200 to reach
your goals.

Laser Resurfacing

Laser resurfacing is still a fairly new procedure, but it's
relatively safe. Laser resurfacing is most commonly used to
minimize the appearance of fine lines but also works well
as a treatment for age spots. Because this procedure
requires some sedation it has to be performed in in a
doctor's office. Laser resurfacing is a popular treatment
many plastic surgeons offer to help with removing age spots
and other deep blemishes.

Like IPL, laser resurfacing can be quite expensive. The
national average for this procedure is nearly $3,000 but
many doctors offer financing so patients can take advantage
of monthly payments.

Bleaching Creams

Bleaching creams are great for bleaching large areas of
discoloration. However, as a treatment for age spots,
bleaching creams tend to bleach the areas surrounding the
spots more than the spots themselves. You can either
purchase bleaching creams from your dermatologist or get
them over the counter at your local drug store. Some people
say bleaching creams are slow at removing age spots while
others swear by them. Either way you can see some results.

Home Chemical Peels

A home chemical peel is perhaps the most cost-efficient and
effective treatment for age spots available. It works by
removing layers of dead skin over a period of several days
(usually less than a week) in order to reveal fresh, new
skin that is both younger looking and more supple. Lighter
peels remove fewer layers of dead skin while deeper peels
can remove as many as four layers of dead skin.

Many home chemical peel kits provide dermatologist-quality
results at a fraction of the cost. As a result, they tend
to be one of the most sought after solutions for removing
age spots. The average home chemical peel kit will cost you
about $80 for a basic kit and $660 for a more advanced kit.
This is significantly less than the $300 to $2000 you would
pay to have the same treatment done in a dermatologist's
office. This turns out to be a savings of $220 to $1340.

Laser-Assisted Liposuction

Laser-Assisted Liposuction
Advancements in methods of fat removal by liposuction
continue to change and be improved. One of the most
noteworthy methods that is currently marketed and touted is
laser liposuction, or more accurately, laser-assisted
liposuction.

As opposed to the traditional technique of a hollowed-out
cannula insertion, loosening and beating up the fat tissue,
and then sucking it out, this mechanical particulation is
replaced by the heat of laser energy. A laser fiber is
inside the liposuction cannula which delivers heat to the
fat cells, thus breaking them down into a more liquid state
making it easier to be sucked up into the cannula. In
theory, the heat from the laser also causes the overlying
skin to tighten.

As of this date, there are three such laser-assisted
liposuction systems available in the United States. They
are under the marketed tradenames of SMARTLIPO (Cynosure),
COOLLIPO (CoolTouch), and PROLIPO (Sctiton). All of them
tout more effective and efficient fat removal, less
bruising and swelling after the procedure, a faster
recovery, and some skin tightening and improvement in the
appearance of cellulite over the treated areas.

The real question is....are they really better than
traditional liposuction...and are their increased costs
over traditional liposuction worth it? (someone has to pay
for the equipment purchase...and that someone is you the
patient!) To date, laser-assisted liposuction is
tremendously appealing, particularly to the general public.
Historically, any treatment associated with the word,
laser, always causes mass patient allure. No clinical
trials have yet been reported however, that I have seen,
that have ever directly compared any laser-assisted vs
traditional liposuction procedure in patients. Nor has any
large clinical trial been done that even compares two
differently-treated patient groups, no matter how
impossible it really is to 'match' patients from different
groups. So while all laser liposuction devices are FDA
approved, this stamp of approva applies primarily to the
safety of the devices, not necesarily to how effective they
are compared to traditional liposuction techniques.

Much like ultrasonic-assisted liposuction when it was
introduced 10 years ago, laser-assisted liposuction may be
a popular trend that, in the end, will fare no better. It
will undoubtably have its place in liposuction options and
armamentarium but I doubt if it is magic or whether it
offers a quantum leap forward in patient outcomes and
recovery times. It may offer some improvement in fat
removal efficiency, but I am truly dubious of overall
better outcomes, a much better and faster recovery, and
skin tightening (of which I remain the most skeptical)It
will take some time to separate the marketing claims from
true patient outcomes.

I am all for any form of advancement in liposuction, which
is a fairly traumatic procedure on the tissues. While
effective, liposuction is still one of the most 'brutal'
procedures that we as plastic surgeons do. Is laser-assted
liposuction a better method of liposuction?.....ask me
again in 5 years!
