Like all structures on the body, things change with age,
gravity, and the general wear and tear of life. Nowhere is
this more apparent than on the female abdomen. Puberty,
pregnancy, and weight change all play potential havoc with
the smooth flat abdomen that most women have in youth.
Pregnancy is the biggest culprit here, stretching the skin
through expansion and contraction and leaving scars from
c-sections.

The c-section scar itself may lay flat as it shrinks and
heals but the overlying skin excess and loose skin often
falls over this scar, resulting in an unsightly bulge of
the lower abdomen. Often stretch marks extend upward from
the scar and around the bellybutton as well. Unfortunately,
no amount of dieting and exercise will shrink this skin
excess and many women can attest to that observation.
Abdominoplasty, otherwise known as a tummy tuck, will get
rid of this problem but a traditional or full tummy tuck
may be a bigger procedure than many women desire to
undergo. The length of a full tummy tuck scar (hip to hip)
may be excessive given the amount of lower skin excess. In
addition, a full tummy tuck requires the belly button to be
repositioned at the skin level resulting in a scar around
it. Despite my best efforts at making belly button scars, I
find most of them to be somewhat visible and not completely
normal in appearance.

An alternative approach is a more limited version of an
abdominoplasty, known as a mini-tummy tuck or for a better
visual understanding, a Bikini Line Tummy Tuck. With this
approach, the length of the resulting scar is shorter but,
more importantly, it stays very low. (hence the name Bikini
Line) It stays low because the amount of skin removed is
less and the cut out is below the belly button level. This
allows the initial incision of the cut out to be put as low
as possible and does not place a lot of tension on the
final skin closure which can cause it to be pulled up
higher. (as occurs in a full tummy tuck) In addition, no
scar results around the belly button since as it is
repositioned lower from underneath the skin before the
final skin closure.

While not every woman who has overhanging skin and fat on
their abomen is a candidate for the Bikini Line Tummy Tuck,
about half of the women that I see are. Women that are
close to a good body weight with a small amount of lower
abdominal skin excess, with or without a c-section scar,
are ideal candidates. A flat abdomen, a normal-appearing
belly button, and a resulting scar that fits inside the
bikini line is the result.

clients but from everyday people who have found out I'm a
personal trainer.

"How do I get rid of this...quickly?" It's usually asked
while grabbing a hold of a little goo sitting on the tummy.

The proper answer is that it takes exercise and better
eating habits, but there is a quicker answer that may
surprise you.

All you have to do is learn to control your abdominal, low
back and butt muscles and you will instantly lose a couple
inches off your stomach.

It's not really magic, it's just learning to use proper
posture while sitting and standing.

Today's population has horrible posture. I see it
everyday, not only in my training studio and massage
clients, but just from "people watching".

Everybody is slouching with rounded shoulders, flat butts
or they let their gut hang out which gives them a big curve
in their lower back.

That's why I am constantly telling my training clients to
keep their tummies tight while doing their workouts.

The ladies in my boot camps can attest to this. I'm
constantly harping on them to keep their tummies tight.

I can tell when they are and when they aren't, because
their stomachs will shrink by a couple inches when they
keep their stomachs tight and controlled.

It's probably the easiest thing you can do, right now, to
make your stomach shrink. Not only that, but your body
will feel better.

When you have poor posture, or let your stomach muscles get
too relaxed, your body has to work harder to keep you
upright. That means you'll get tired easily.

Not only that, but you won't perform as well in your
day-to-day tasks. All because of poor posture.

So here's what you can do right now, while reading this, to
help remedy the situation.

Sit up straight, or stand up straight. Lift your chin up
so you're looking straight ahead.

Pull your shoulders back by squeezing your shoulder blades
together. Lift your chest up and relax your shoulders so
you're not all hunched up.

Now contract your abs like someone is going to punch you in
the gut. Not too hard, just enough that you know they're
tight.

Now, if you're someone who lets their gut hang out,
creating a nasty curve in your lower back, I want you to
tighten your glutes (butt) and "tuck your tail under" so
that your stomach comes back and that curve in your low
back goes back to normal.

If you've done this right, you should look like a soldier
standing at attention.

There's a reason soldiers look so fit and intimidating when
they're standing at attention. They're using perfect
posture (plus they're in damn good shape). They're
standing upright without any hunches and are not letting
their guts hang out.

Practice this routine multiple times per day until it
becomes routine.

Not only that, but when you're exercising, concentrate on
keeping your stomach tight. You will be amazed at the
results you see in the mirror. Actually, that's another
good tip. Practice this in front of a mirror.

You, and the people around you, will think that you have
lost 10 pounds.

How to Build Up Muscle Strength
If you want to learn how to build up muscle strength, then
look no further. My goal is to put together for you the
simplest, purest, and most learnable form on how to build
up muscle strength to whatever you want it to be. Whether
you want to compete in weight lifting championships, or you
just have some personal weight lifting goals that you
always wanted reach, then read on my friend.

Gaining strength, or poundage progression, is a very simple
concept. Before you do anything else, I want you to take
out a pen or pencil and a pad of paper. Now I want you to
write out long term goals for however many lifts you want.
For instance, one of my long term goals for a long time as
a kid was to squat 405 pounds. At the time I set that goal
I could barely squat 135 pounds for 10 reps. What I did
next was set a goal for 185 pounds for 10 reps. This was my
immediate short term goal.

Then all I did for the next few weeks was concentrated on
adding weight a little at a time each week until I could
squat 145 pounds for ten reps, then 155 pounds, then 165
pounds, etc, until I could eventually squat for 185 for ten
reps. Then I would set a new short term goal, 225 pounds
for ten reps, and go at it again. Now, it sounds simple,
and it is, but the secret is in the HARD WORK you put in
each workout to pass your last workout, and having the
tenacity to keep going and NOT QUIT!

Each workout you are getting an inch closer to your long
term goal by attacking the heck out of your short term
goal. They say the only way to eat an elephant is one bite
at a time. This is how great success works in anything, and
it is more measurable in weight training then anything else.

There are a couple different ways in which you can
progressively go up in weight. One way, following the
example of my squats, is to add one or two pounds each
workout and do ten reps with it. This approach you are more
likely to reach the ten reps almost every time. Another way
you can do it is to add five or even ten pounds each
workout until you can't complete the ten reps, then stay at
that weight until you complete the ten reps in good form,
and when you do, add another five or ten reps and do it
again. Neither of these approaches is better then the
other, it is just up to your preference.

It is important to point out some psychological aspects
that I am describing that will help you in subtle ways on
how to build up muscle strength steadily and stay the
course. The first is the fact that you write everything
down: your long term goals, short term, and each and every
workout. This way, when you approach each individual
workout, you know exactly what you need to accomplish that
day down to the last rep.

Another aspect is that by making short term goals, you are
making it easier to reach your long term goals because you
may not really believe you can reach your long term goals
in the beginning, but you believe you can reach your short
term goals. And as David Schwartz says in The Magic of
Thinking Big, "belief is the thermostat which regulates
what we accomplish in life."

Here is perhaps the most important point: once you make
your long term goal, write it down and then forget about
it. Concentrate all of your energy on your short term goal
and nothing else! Don't even think about what your next
short term goal will be, just go to each workout and focus
100% on completing your goal for that day.

This is how to build up muscle strength to astronomical
levels. Most people at the thought of a long term goal will
cower from it and never even begin, but not you. You now
understand the process, however long it may be. I will end
with a quote I stated earlier in this article that I hope
you really take into consideration, "It sounds simple, and
it is, but the secret is in the HARD WORK you put in each
workout to pass your last workout, and having the tenacity
to keep going and NOT QUIT!"

will not be your friend and others you will want to fall on

concept of keeping the muscles guessing all the time in
order to see the greatest gains. Everyone who is trying a

Cardio, weight lifting, and even more passive exercise
choices like vigorous housework or hop scotch can be
utilized to keep those muscle totally oblivious to what is

Once the list of 20 exercises has been depleted, do not
start out at the top. Erase the board and write a new fresh
list of exercises. These exercises can be either one
activity done over an extended period of time or several
activities broken up throughout the time you have chosen to
exercise for the day. No matter how you go about completing
your daily burn, as long as the muscles are confused, the
calories burned will remain higher.

Carbs

Specifically the difference between good and bad

fiber can improve your chances of conception by balancing

Fats

with the full fat version. The studies showed that the more
low-fat dairy products that a woman consumed, the more
likely it was she would have trouble conceiving.

Keeping yourself within a healthy weight range (not too big
and not too small - just right ..) will help you balance

system working with men and women from 14-75, and my
experience included many obese men and women along the way,
including men over 300 pounds and women over 225 pounds.

Provided their doctor approved them for exercise, we were
ready to go and get them using strength training and even
beginner interval training.

Any sedentary individual, man or woman, needs to start
there.

In fact, the very first phase is performed with 90% of the
exercises done lying on the ground. Users are shocked to
see how hard LYING exercises can be...but they are the
perfect blend of safety and intensity for overweight,
inactive folks.

The perfect starting point.

That brings up one other thing...and the main point
beginners need to understand is that NUTRITION is the key
to fat loss in the first couple of weeks when they are
getting back into exercise.

Folks will get more results from following nutritious meal
plans that focus on having them cut back on processed foods
and sugar. That said, they need to choose an exercise
program that will build them up for future training
sessions...and that's what strength training and interval
training workouts do.

On the other hand, if inactive folks launch right into a
serious cardio/endurance program, they'll get a sour taste
of the "Dark Side of Cardio" pretty quick, putting them in
the Doctor's office with overuse injuries.

So choose your fat loss weapons wisely when just starting

acquire the essential amino acids it needs to grow and
repair? The easiest way to get a balanced does of amino

your body needs. Any dietary source of complete proteins
like meat, fish, milk, and eggs are excellent sources of
amino acids. This is why most people do not suffer from
amino acid deficiencies unless they are poor or vegetarians
or just do not consume enough meat. Another source of

I love LIFE cereal.

To be more precise, I love Cinnamon LIFE cereal.

It's a guilty pleasure. I know I shouldn't. I know that
it's a horribly processed carbohydrate, with no nutritional
value, and will do nothing but mess with my blood sugar
levels if eaten by itself, but I love it. I'm the grown-up
version of Mikey.

In the past, I've actually been known to eat a bowl (or 3)
for lunch...but only as a "cheat" meal, and only on a very
rare occasion.

See, even a personal trainer isn't perfect with his eating.

But there's a better to fit in my guilty pleasure of
Mikey's favorite cereal. As I've said before, one of my
favorite snacks is homemade trail mix. My wife buys
almonds and other nuts in bulk and puts in raisins,
craisins and my Cinnamon LIFE cereal.

That way I can get a high protein, high fiber, vitamin and
mineral packed, easy to transport and eat snack in and
still enjoy a guilty pleasure. Plus those extra carbs
actually help out with my busy training and massage
schedule.

That's how you can enjoy a guilty pleasure and still make

If you like ice cream, give it a little punch by adding
some high fiber raspberries or blueberries. Or you can put
a mixture of those two and throw in some strawberries too.

"bite size" bars and pack them with your lunch and have one
after you eat your chicken breast sandwich, apple and
broccoli.

My point is that you don't have to give up your favorite
foods just because you want to lose a little blubber. You
just have to figure out sneaky ways to keep them and
minimize the size and frequency of those guilty pleasures.

You can have them on occasion, even daily if you do it
right and only have very small portions.

In fact, I recommend that you still keep your favorite
unhealthy foods in your regular eating plan.

It'll help keep you sane.

It'll help ensure you actually stick to your new healthy,
fat fighting lifestyle.

Think of it this way. Have you ever seen those hidden
camera shows where they put a plate full of junk foods in
front of little kids and then leave them unattended?

If you haven't, let me fill you in.

The kids whose parents let the kids have a little treat
every now and again will only take a few bites of the junk
food and then continue playing.

But the kids whose parents totally restrict the junk food
go CRAZY and stuff their faces. They come unhinged and
become junk food junkies.

Don't be kid on a sugar high.

Let yourself have an unhealthy snack every once in a while.
It'll do your body good.

Managing the Jowls of Facial Aging
One of the earliest signs of facial aging is the
development of jowls or jowling. The jowls are areas of
skin and fat that have fallen from the side of the face to
hang along or below the jawline. As we age, these areas
tend to become more noticeable as the sag worsens. The once
straight jawline of youth is gradually replaced by the
saggy full jowls of the aging face. Why this occurs is the
age-old phenomenon of time and gravity, weakening the
attachments of the skin to the underlying muscle so that a
tight bond between the two no longer exists.

I see many patients who are bothered by jowling, including
younger patients who often see this as one of the first
signs of real aging. There are numerous options to treat
the jowls, both surgical and non-surgical, with varying
degrees of effectiveness. The most effective methods, to no
surprise, are surgical and include facelifts and
liposuction. A facelift in its fullest extent is a
jowl-neck lift. In its more limited form, it is primarily a
jowl lift. It works by pulling skin and deeper tissues up
and back, eliminating the jowls by pulling loose tissue
above the jawline again. The loose jowl tissue is simply
repositioned and not removed. More minor procedures that
have recently gained popularity, which aims to do the same
thing, are the Threadlifts or Featherlifts. In this simple
procedure, barned sutures are passed deep into the cheek
and facial tissue above the jowl area and cinched up from
above. For very minor degress of jowling, this has some
benefit but is not effective enough with large amounts of
jowling and the long-term results with these procedures is
suspect. Actually removing jowl fat can be done with
liposuction, reducing their size. This can be done alone or
in conjunction with some form of a facelift. When performed
alone, liposuction of the jowls must be done very carefully
and conservatively, lest you get irregularities that are
apparent in the overlying skin. When done with a facelift,
the lifting and tightening of the skin usually eliminates
this concern.

Non-surgical options include skin tightening by
heat-generating devices and LipoDissolve. neither approach
treats both of the jowl issues, skin and fat, and therefore
they are usually less effective than surgery. Heating the
underside of the skin through a series of treatments can
cause a tightening effect. Devices such as Thermage or
SkinTyte do it differently but the objective is the same,
heat up and the skin on its underside and cause it to
tighten. The long-term results of this procedure appear to
be short-lived and that is why I perform them in
conjunction with other procedures rather than as a stand
alone technique. LipoDissolve treats the jowls by
fat-dissolving injections done as a series. As the fat
dissolves, the jowl is reduced in size. In my experience,
it is just as effective as liposuction, albeit a lot
slower. When performing non-surgical jowl reduction, I like
the combination of LipoDissolve and Skin Tyte. That
combination seems be particularly effective as both
components of the problem, skin and fat, are addressed.
They are also great touch-up procedures to do after a
facelift when a little rebound relaxation in the jowl area
occurs.

The jowls can be treated by numerous surgical and
non-surgical methods. Limited and full facelifts produce
the best and most long-lasting results and should be the
first choice when moderate to severe jowling is present. In
more minor jowling, LipoDissolve and Skin Tyte work well if
the patient can tolerate a slower speed of noticeable
improvement.

10 quarter slices of granary bread, buttered and topped
with smoked salmon, 8 olives 1 pint of beer.

Then we went to the dining table:

Man-size portion of lasagne, with a selection of green
leaves, tomatoes and raw onion salad, topped with an olive
oil salad dressing.

Large slice of chocolate terrine, with a large strawberry
dripped in dark chocolate and frozen, plus one meringue
with pouring cream on top. Anyone who knows their chocolate
facts will know that this recipe is high in calories, but
delicious.

Cheese, bread biscuits and butter.

4 large glasses of wine, or about 500 wine calories.

One, very large brandy and 6 small cups of white coffee.

Total calories ' an awful lot.

Weight gain 07.00 hrs yesterday to 07.00 hrs today = zero
pounds.

How Could I Eat all That Food and NOT Put on Any Weight?

The simple answer is that I played tennis for two hours
before lunch.

Now keep in mind that I exercised BEFORE I ate. This gave
me two important benefits.

First, I burned more than a few calories by playing tennis.
So that put some calorie credits in the bank before I
started to eat and drink.

Taking exercise before eating is a good way to counteract
the weight gaining effects of food.

Second, because of the exercise I'd taken, my metabolism
was running very quickly by the time I stared to eat. This
has the effect of burning off many of the calories you are

when you were out playing all day long and returned home in
the evening to eat your mother out of house and home. Did
you put on a lot of weight? No you didn't, because you'd
spent your day creating calorie credits.

Now you'll be surprised to discover that you can create
calorie credits for yourself every day by doing simple
exercises.

Solved, the Problem of Exercising to Lose Weight

Any expert on weight loss will agree that you need to burn
at least as many calories as you ingest if you are to
succeed in losing weight.

Here's a fact for you ' most people do not like exercising
when it's just for the sake of exercising.

Many studies have already shown that exercises are regarded
as boring and repetitious and they take up too much time.

There is only one solution to this ' multi-tasking.

What is important is to spend time burning calories and
toning up your muscles. It doesn't matter how or when you
do this.

STOP and listen to your own thoughts on the subject of
weight loss. You want to lose weight, but you don't want to
alter your current life style and eating habits. Am I not
right on this?

You are reading this, aren't you? And it is all about
weight loss, isn't it. So you do want to lose weight, don't
you?

What you're saying to me is: "I want to lose weight, but I
don't want any hassle. Please make it easy for me.

If you read my weight loss diary you will see that I use
hypnosis to get me over the more challenging times. By
constantly hypnotising myself I hardly notice that I am
eating more sensibly or exercising more.

It is not difficult to learn how to hypnotize yourself.
And, as part of the process, you can also learn to remind
yourself to do it constantly.

This Tip is Amazing!

I have invented a whole series of exercises that I do in
bed, as I watch TV or sit at my desk and as I'm out walking
my dogs.

Just think, I don't set aside special times for going to
the gym or to go swimming or out for a jog. I just blend my
exercise time in with my other every day activities.

This not only saves me time, but ensures that I get the
extra exercise that I need to keep me trim and to keep the
excess fat falling away.

It's just incredible what you can do when you make it easy
for yourself. When you create ways of doing things that
both work and do not require any special effort.

Why I Keep a Diary

Notice how I don't talk about losing tens of pounds in a
few short days. That's not the point of losing weight. The
point is to take it off and keep it off.

You may remember how long it took you to put the excess
weight on in the first place. Well, isn't it logical then
to allow yourself a reasonable amount of time to take it
off again.

Everyone knows that to do anything over a longer period of
time you need motivation. Simply by reading back through
the pages of my diary I can plot the progress I'm making
and encourage myself to keep going.

In the first 48 days, the weight is coming off steadily. My
belt has come in one notch. I can feel that my body is in
better shape. When I ran around a lot playing tennis before
the "calorie fest" meal that I mentioned earlier in this
article, I hardly lost my breath at all.

What's even better thought is that I feel good in myself. I
feel good about myself.

Everybody should, in my opinion, do whatever it takes to
make themselves feel as good about themselves as they
possibly can.
